From what has been said, there is no offline multiplayer mode, and from video we know that parties consist of up to 6 people online.

I thought it was already stated a good while ago that the only multiplayer aspect of this game would be the Online mode.

Yes only the online mode will consist of 1-6 players when in a single game. ST Also said that since the online mode and offline mode are so extensive they were unable to add a offline multiplayer mode.

my friend said that 1-4 players would mean that theres multiplayer because it would say massive multiplayer if its online.

that woyld be cool if there was an offline multi mode but they would have to seriously raise the lv cap to like 100 or something or whatever the planned max is

Online: 1-6 players.
Offline: 1-1 players.

I think if you count NPCs as players then yes, offline has 1-4 players.

Typically, game store pre-order boxes are mock-ups created by the store themsleves. Their only purpose is for people to see the box, get interested, and lay down their money on a pre-order. Otherwise the game has up to 6 player online multiplayer and no multiplayer offline, except in the form of NPC help.

What, are you crazy?! NPCs aren't people! O_O...

Eh, I never really cared for the offline multiplayer anyways.

I don't see how an offline multiplayer would actually work, not many people would be able to use it, especially for pc. Also, the multiplayer offline was something they tried out exclusivly for GC, so I don't think they have added a multiplayer. But who knows? Maybe they're preparing something else with Nintendo, like PSU on Wii? Who knows...

1-4 players could stand for the amount of character slots you get online. Ideally, you could have a different player for each character slot. They just won't be able to play together simutaniously.

I think that even Phantasy Star I had the "1-4 Players" marking on it's box - despite not being multiplayer. It simply counted all the save game slots in which four people could each have their own save game.

Rune just said that it's most likely not SEGAs box and a mockup created by the store, don't you read previous posts?

If you could get a picture of the box to prove it.

But otherwise no, there is no offline multiplayer, period.
