View Full Version : Beast hunter, female or male?

RamenEater

Hmm the female version has some higher stats, just lower attack power.

-Shimarisu-
Sep 16, 2006, 01:44 AM
Male, male male, all the way, unless you want to be HU/FO.

Male has higher ATP and ATA, and in a class that excels at being a HU, you don't want to be the female UNLESS you want tech backup on your char. And that tech backup will be weak.

Nice, another thing i'm worried about is the beast accuracy. I wanna deal the best damage but if i cant hit anything it'll just be poo.

-Shimarisu-
Sep 16, 2006, 01:56 AM
It doesn't matter, because if you are skilled enough you can zip round the back of stuff for 100% accuracy.

Male, but that's just my personal preference and has nothing to do with stats or gameplay differences http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

No I don't think you understood him. Lawl.

Nope, attacking enemies from behind made no difference to damage or accuracy. It's a new feature for PSU.

to me its sounds completely broken that the sex that gets the highest atp also gets the highest ata how is that fair?

They still make good forces.... but other than that it does look a bit unfair. Good thing I'd only be using males regardless.

Also, the world is sexist, and SEGA is part of the world, so you're right. Sexism works both ways, however.

You forgot that if that happens, you also have male only items. I think that female beasts aren't bad, I mean, they make good backup forces, and withthe HU/FO expert mode, I think they rock. But if you want to be a pure HU or RA maybe it's better to be male. Anyway, does it really matter? Playing is about having fun not about trying to get the most powerful being. Just take whatever you fancy.

Probably, knowing how they set up things to make the game harder, and knowing that there are going to be many many many things to equip, I'd expect that. Although, they will probably make equivalents for each thing, one for female, the other for male. Presence boost, like the rings?

Seeing as I still love the HUnewearl from the days of PSO, I will only make a female hunter and nothing more. Never liked the HUmar on PSO, so I HIGHLY doubt I will ever make a male Hunter.

Stats aren't everything on this game and they never have been. On PSO, the HUnewearl had the lowet ATP of the Hunter class but could still dish out just as much damage as a RAcast or HUmar with certain weapons.

You can't really ask which is better because people will only answer you based on stats, however if that is what you are looking for then the answer is quite obvious. I would look beyond just numbers and look at the overall picture and what you want to do with your character.

DizzyDi
Sep 16, 2006, 09:40 AM
Make a female beast hunter, just to be different. You'll still have RIDICIOUSLY high ATP anyway, just not as much as 'ol Argus or any other male beast hunter. But you will have higher END, that mysterious stat that we don't know what it does yet exactly.

Eclypse
Sep 16, 2006, 09:41 AM
Not to mention your evade will be higher and evade is more important than defense since you don't take any damage whatsoever.

STAG CUTLERY was trash in my opinion. For the HUmar type, I think the METEOR CUDGEL or TWIN BRAND were far better.

PARTISAN OF LIGHTNING was also far better than the STAG CUTLERY. However the best looking double saber in terms of looks, damage and the other stuff was easily the VIVIENNE which only female characters could use. In my opinion nothing was better for a hunter on the game than the VIVIENNE, LOVE HEART, SAFETY HEART combo.....unless you could get your hands on come Charge Vulcan's with 20-40% hit.......oh that's love.

However this is just my opinion.

Supposedly from the charts the difference isn't severe like say... beast male to newmen female hunters.

If the info posted was right at 60 (current cap is 50 i beleive) I'd be losing under 200 hp, just under 30 atp(for the latest and greatest weapon accessability this isn't to huge i think) and ata is 12 for chosing female.

The only thing beast females will excell in and its only slightly is defensive stats, 8 defense, 5 evasion beter. For non hunter stats 1 mst better and whatever END does females have 2 better.

The chart goes to 90 and the gap doesn't get that much wider, if these are the true PC stats for online mode its not a big deal it seems.

Eclypse
Sep 16, 2006, 03:54 PM
It's not all about strength. I would take lower strength if I knew I would have considerally higher evasion, which is the case for female vs males. PSU will probably be just as easy as PSO so stats are not everything.

The real strength in the sex, atleast I hope, will be specific weapons for race, class or sex even all of the above for one super specialized weapon.

Nice chart breakdown, but what is the TAP category?

It also looks like they've really lowered the stats of the Newman female when compared to how HUnewearls used to stat in PSO. They used to have a really nice bonus to evade, but now it looks like it's marginal at best.

I guess what it comes down to, if you want to play a character based on stats, then that chart is self explanatory, but if you want to make your character based off an idea you had all along then make what you want to make.

Honestly I would've loved to use acute female newman killing everything with a big sword. However the stats show the female newman hunter gets screwed(plus not being able to use techniques), so sad. I can't use a low tier character, I just can't.

I'm using a Female newman force, ATA does not affect techniques.

I don't care for all the 'lololol male beast ownz0rz'.

If everyone picks the easier class, we'll have a new n00b class anyway (like HUmar in PSO, RAmarl in BB).

I'm going Female Beast because 1) They looks awesome 2) Uriko in Bloody Roar transforms into a cat anyway 3) I want to be the class more than I want to be a male one.

I don't really care about low Accuracy/lower ATP than a male- I played HUnewearl in PSO, so I know what to expect http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif With Expert mode, I'll go HU/FO anyway, that's how I've always played in PSO.

It is good to see that finally Male characters have something to cheer about- ST always was advantaged towards females in PSO. Still, even with worse overall stats, I'm playing a Fem Beast.

Uriko was cool, but my favorite characters were the moles. anyway, I suppose that the choice also depends on your way of playing. Lower ATA doesn't affect much in the sens that if you're in a group of 6 you can go behind the enemy easily, so choose the ones you prefer in looks and nanoblast http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

the more i look at the sex differences the more it pisses me off. unless you are a FO TAP is worthless unless it somehow effects support techs or someother melee related factor. to illustrate why this really pisses me off imagine in pso if you traded hucast and hucaseal ata yeah thats really balanced. in pso evade was nice but it was pretty much worthless outside of ult forest.maybee it will be a little different in psu since i think theres a monster ata down spell. but nobody is gonna be like sweet you evade a lot, from my experience people usually only care about big numbers.

Expert Class.

Better overall stats in other areas = Better suited for different expert classes

Nothing is as shafted as it seems... Females overall, take damage better then males. That's apparent from looking at the sheet but everyone just brushes it off like it doesn't matter. As a Hunter, you'll be in front, and you will be getting hit. Having better Magical Resistance, Defense, and Evasion aren't really things to scoff at and it fits some peoples play styles. Even then, looking at the differences you'll notice that they aren't that large overall... If I didn't hate getting hit on so much(Because I'm just so damn cute as a female character, I blame my good taste in women... You can laugh now) I would be making a female character because Evasion and Defense are things I treasure above offense.

That's just not my style though... And I wouldn't suggest anyone else to choose something just because it has better stats... By the end of the game, when you're in a group in your Expert Class those stats won't be all that important to you since with different stats you can take different roles.

Sega's stance is this...

Men a physically able to cause more harm then women with brute strength. It takes alot more damage to take them down (HP reference), and they can be pretty on the mark with hits.

Women are physically more agile and resilient (Did I spell that right? And btw... In that department... Child birth ftw, Sega knows their shit) and they're smarter.

What's with the complaints about sexism? I say it's a pretty fair trade off.

Wow I sure rambled on there didn't I? You enjoyed it though. Deny it if you want, but you did.

Oh... And I forgot to add...

Inu-girls rock.

maybee FFXI has made me jaded but taking hits better isnt gonna impress anyone unless its to the point where you shrug off savage blows sorta like racaseal in pso but i think i was the only one that cared about my 3k dfp.its not the atp edge i have a problem with its the atp+ata.

I know what you mean but it's not that big of an advantage. Really, a unit can remove that advantage and in a high ATP race like Beast it's really even more of a non-factor.

That said... I do think that in this game being able to take a hit or avoid a hit is nothing to scoff out. You can't rely on your own skill for everything, and the less damage you take as a Hunter the better overall in my opinion.

And yeah, FFXI has you jaded. Haha. I say that because I play the game, it jades (Is that even... A proper use of the word?) alot of people... But that's fine. I don't feel that any of the handicaps are that big in this game... Even then, Expert Classes seem to make combos shine in a whole different light. After all, there's more then one way to be useful to your party but it's all in how you wanna play your character.

Anyway, does it really matter? Playing is about having fun not about trying to get the most powerful being. Just take whatever you fancy.

QFT.

You're not in a MMO where you have to create the most uber template of all times...
Choose what will give you most fun (try one, try the other, choose).

Actually that kinda the point of an MMO (or ORPG for those who wanna be difficult), to create a super-strong, super cool character. The community is cool and all that but in the end why do you go and constantly grind and farm for money? So you can be X high level, and have X rare item and X rare weapon so when you walk into town or start a party with someone and whip that rare stuff out they'll be all "WOW!".

I guess every people have their own motives.

I didn't play PSO to impress people ^_^
I played to get fun (as it's... well... hum... a game http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif ).
If farming and grinding makes you happy, then it's cool for you http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Anyway, my point was that PSU is not WoW.
Whatever the character, you'll do fine.
I don't think you need to make complicated calculations, it really depends on what you like. And nobody can tell you what you like http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

That's exactly why I'm making a female beast. I like the character model, and for some reason there's a stat deficiency against it being a hunter, so that will make it feel a little bit unique.
