Open up your PA's menu and, in this order:

Second option (starts with a P)
Third option

This is all the synthesis stuff.

The first option in this menu lets you feed boards to your PM. I believe you can feed him up to 32. Each board has a limited number of uses, once it's through, it disappears from the list. If you already have the maximum number, trying to feed him another will give you the option to overwrite one.

Second option is the actual synthesis. All your boards are listed here, and X's are placed to the left of ones you don't have the ingredients for.

Third option contains pending synthesises (synthesi?). For any board that doesn't list the chance of success as 100%, the synthesis will take some actual time. The time remaining will be listed here in hours:minutes. You can cancel a synthesis and try to get some materials back, but there's no guarantee. You won't know if a synth is successful until it's been completed. For 100% success rate boards for things like monomates, the synth is instant and will automatically go to yoru inventory.

I believe offline there's no wait-time, although, you still have to pick up more complicated synths in this menu.

Fourth option is help. No use to you unless you can read Japanese.

Last option, as always, will take you back to the previous menu.

Syntheses, actually, since it's a Greek word.
