extra mode offline

hi i just started my proper game of PSU on PS2 (needed a new M card), i was wondering how do i get on extra mode offline? do i need to complete the story mode? or do i need to be online (will suck ps2 not online waiting for 360 for online)

Beat Chapter 4 in story mode to unlock it, beat the entire game to open up all areas and store items

thanks ether, the wife is itching to see the creation process (well i am too but i like to blame her). i'll probably play thu story mode cos i'm enjoying not understanding what im doing hehehe (note to self learn japanese)
