Actually, I wouldn't really say that. It's more... circumstance than anything. Not to say that either one of them is clearly and obviously actually jonesin' for something twixt their nethers weren't run on batteries or anything. I'd say more but that'd be giving too much away for a public forum.

Which is what I prefer, as I don't care about Xenosaga styled plot and character. I can appreciate them for what they are, but I don't have to like them.

Take Skies of Arcadia's Vyse for example. "Hey guys let's fly into Hell and kill Satan." Everybody's response "Hell yeah Vyse is awesome!"

It seems these days a Vyse-like character is less cliche than one who has inner demons and unresolved issues to deal with.

Not to say that either extreme is absolutely bad or good. I'd say the best solution was to add depth but still keep the character likeable somehow. A lot of them just get too whiny for my tastes.

No, in fact it ends...

quite abruptly over all, leaving much to be fleshed out and desired. The game itself, presented like an anime or japanese television show, seems to have set the grounds for the "First season". The following expansions to come would seem to continue the story following the characters.

Unless of course theirs maintenance, the chance of servers being whacked for the first week of US release, and other problems. Sides its a waste not to play the story mode at least anyway.

Characters with some angst, personal demons, and the like are cool, IMO. It makes the character a lot more real. I didn't like Shion in Xenosaga, she got on my nerves a lot of the time, what with her whining and what not, but thats the point of the XS series. Even though its a huge epic sci-fi sorta thing the heart of the plot is real. Real hereos aren't gunna be likable 24/7 like your Vyse type character. I can understand where you're coming from though. Sometimes you don't want to play a game thats all super-dramatic and whatnot...Eh, my 2 cents.
