I'm completely brand new to all PS games, but i've been reading up a ton about PSU coming out, and i was wondering exactly the mechanics of it. I currenty play WoW, but have played FFXI, EQOA, CoH, all that stuff, so how do you compare this to those games. I know it is not an mmorpg, but i like the combo of online and offline game-play, even though i would use online gameplay as my most prominant form of enjoying the game. How would you rate the online play? you think its worth it just for that? Alright, sorry just some questions. I've been thinking of moving from WoW because of time issues, and fun issues. Just wondering, thanks!

no problem,
thanks man. Just wondering, since i heard about PSO, almost joined, but didnt. Just wondering how it compares. Lol, i love to online game. But what is the battle system like? how does it work in this game. Most games i've played are turn-based, but whats this feel like?

k dude PSU>WoW. phantasy is an action rpg kinda like but not completely like dynasty warriors(just gameplay). in terms of the partying its like diablo sortof. except instead of chatting in a text based room your in a 3d lobby that can hold up to 1000 ppl.

compared to other games it just purely manhandles them.

not on topic but its funny how the WoW fans used to say stuff like "until psu gets 8 million players, shut up" but psu sold 120thousand copys in its first weak. and thats only in japan. im positive world of warcraft didnt sell that many world wide in the first weak.

This game as well as PSO is real-time battle. For example, you press the button twice, your character attacks twice. Check out the screen & movie thread for many links to action videos.

I'm new to the PSO/PSU scene as well. I've heard many, many good things about PSO and how addictive it is. Since PSU is coming out for the PS2, I'm going to jump in and see how fun it is. So far the game looks like alot of fun, although theres some things that I think might shorten the game play (Level Cap, Number of Missions, A little part of Character Creation). I guess I'll never know till I try, so the game should be mine when it comes out, already have a Pre-Order on it (Yay Free Sound Track!).

So yeah, cheers to PSU and hoping its alot of fun and very addicting.

On how addictive PSO/U is: There are folks who don't like PSO who think PSU is gonna rock. that's just how good PSU seems to be.

@xzeekzx: Once you play online you won't want to go back to MMO's. The combat is way too good. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Being new to Phantasy Star isn't a big deal, but you really owe it to yourself to go play at least PS2 and 4 however you can get your hands on them. They have absolutely nothing to do with Online or Universe, but are excellent games in their own right. 4 even has tons of comic-styled cutscenes which were pretty much unmatched by anything that came out in that era.

So yeah!

If you can't find PS2/4, go ahead and try out PSO:BB for about a month. It's a really fun game, and it's worth playing it just to wait for PSU. I know we only have like 34 days left, but still, these days are agonizingly long! XD

Don't worry if your new to the Phantasy Star Universe. You will learn quickly. If you haven't played PSO you should pick up a copy if you have a GameCube.

I've been playing Phantasy Star since the original Sega Master System title, which I unfortunately was never able to finish. I beat PS4 though, which is the best game in the original series to many fans. You can either buy a Sega Genesis and a copy of the game from some site like Ebay, or you can do it in another slightly more illegal way, which you'll have to figure out yourself. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

If you want to get a glimpse of what Phantasy Star Universe is going to be like, download Blue Burst and play until the free trial is up. Even though it's several years old, it still holds up to this day as one of the best online RPGs available (at least until PSU dethrones it).
