"On Thursday October 5th, new Missions will be available after the extended Maintenance.

NOTE (from another announcement: http://phantasystaruniverse.jp/news/wis/?mode=view&id=83
There will be extended maintenance to both game servers and SegaLink from 10am Oct 4 - 5pm Oct 5 JST, during this time, the following will be unavailable:
-SegaLink ID registration, account management, Game Key Entry
-Network mode for PS2 and Windows Editions
-Story and Extra Mode for Windows Edition
We will be adding more universes per World to further maintain stability and accessibility.
We will also be optimizing access to SegaLink data from the server side.

With this Update, we will open the Gurhal System's Third Planet "Moatoob".
Although the environment is the most harsh amongst the three planets, people have settled there with dreams of attaining vast riches mining the surface for it's abundant resources.

You may venture through the Garenigare Valley's abandoned mine, or meet up in Daguora City, which is the home of weapons manufacturer "Tenora Works" Corporation.

Update Contents:
Opening of Moatoob
Addition of Moatoob Missions
Addition of Parum Missions
Addition of Neudaiz Missions
Adjustment to Mission parameters and Completion Bonuses

We will have more information regarding the details of this update as time progresses."

w00t. Content Update.
They decided to make it coincide with the extended weekly maintenance time (instead of right at Oct 1) to avoid having two instances of extended downtime that week.
This is sweet, because Maotoob is probably the most fun planet mission-wise. Also has doper music.
No mention of Kugu Desert areas, but we'll get more details in the upcoming week...

Hopefully with the restart of the official service, we'll see weekly content updates as promised in all those earlier interviews. Thanks for the heads up.

Awesome, I had a feeling they would update around the relaunch, I think we all did. I hope some of the new clothing stuff will be released too.

I have a feeling we won't see weekly content updates though. Probably just monthly content update.

oh not at all. it's not pessimistic, it's being realistic.

and it's better than stuffing lies in developers mouths. Like I said they may say something but that doesn't mean they 'promise' it will be like that unless they verbally and specifically promise it will be guaranteed to be how they say it will be.

People get carried away and believe what developers say word for word or add concepts like 'promises' when in fact they never said it would be this way or that way specifically.

because weekly updates is realistically unreal, especially for a game this limited size, I would imagine they would rather stretch the release of each content as wide as possible. Because like they said this is a 'long project'.

So I'm optimistic in whatever and whenever they update stuff. I'm not going to dare say they promise weekly updates when they NEVER promised such a thing. the closest thing they mentioned were updates that are a few months apart.

So I'm being realistic about this in the sense that I won't twist the facts around just to make things seem to be in a positive way I would 'expect', and then whine and point fingers at ST for 'breaking promises' I made up myself. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif

Except in the EGM article last year where Sega stated that they'd do weekly updates. There also was no whining in this thread at all. But then, you have short term memory and are stupid, so I guess it's not entirely your fault.

Eh sorry im with Saner on this. Weekly updated content is impossible, and a poor move to do considering all the content right now is on the disc itself, waiting to be unlocked.

Parn
Sep 22, 2006, 04:24 PM
Weekly updated content is impossible, why? Locked content on the disc is pretty freaking irrelevant. You could, oh... I dunno... unlock a little bit each week?

zofia
Sep 22, 2006, 04:26 PM
I agree with Parn: since 99.9% of the content is already on the disc, they can unlock as slow OR as fast as they like.

well they can change their minds about things. just like Xbox360 was never planned to get a version of PSU, they change their minds and announce the game for taht system too. and before they announced only PC and PS2.

so they can change their minds about a lot of things even when to update online again.

if they unlock stuff weekly starting from the first US launch date, everything would be possibly available before it's full 1st year, and then people well expect more updates beyond that, etc. etc.

I would like frequent updates/unlocked content myself but I wouldn't count on ST to do what they said a year ago. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I'll just enjoy whatever's available as long as possible, in the meantime they can update at their own pace. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

The same could be said about the IGN everyone was all anal about. You, specifically, used it as ammunition to fire at Xbox 360 players who disagreed with you. Everyone who dislike the Xbox 360 used it as their almighty proof. Factual information that they could use to begin the downfall of a platform. Except it wasn't. What IGN failed to state was that they played a Beta build (or maybe they did mention it, and everyone skipped over it).

I suppose the point to this would be not only research before you make a fool out of youself, and try to to be so hypocritical.

Speculation, as you've stated countless times, is worthless. They MAY change their minds. Or they MAY NOT.

In either case, your post is as pointless as conjecture.

Besides all the other things you have wrong, at no point did they "change their mind" about making a version of the game for the 360. Even in very early interviews, Sega responded that "they were considering" ports to next-gen consoles like the 360. The possibility was on the table as soon as the possibility of the 360 existing was on the table.

Besides that, if Sega has made a good game this time around, they have tools in place to create new content on the fly. The game's assets are already on the disc - we won't see any new areas, any new weapons, any new clothes, new music, etc* - but that shouldn't mean that we can't see new NPCs, new missions within existing areas, new storyline content, etc.
Making a game with a "long term" plan does not mean making a regular-sized game and then doling it out tiny piece by tiny piece over the course of two years. It means making your game as expandable as possible given the limitations of your platform. If all Sega has to offer are a slow release of the content that's offline already, they've already failed with PSU. If they're serious about the game surviving for years, they've made assets that are easily reusable in original, quality content.

*PS: By 'new' I mean 'new', not 'old but they put it on the disc a year ago and haven't shown us yet'. If you think that counts as 'new', please castrate yourself.

yes I treated IGN's preview as a temporary fact, but that didn't mean I thought the final version was going to be that way, I was just concerned because not all games have these things fixed after its released. so it had a 50/50 chance of being the same or better than the build IGN had.

as from what IGN said, one could only assume at THAT TIME, that the 360 version was in a bad state until something is done about it, and ST now improved its performance so that is a positive thing. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

I think it's perfectly logical that they could release weekly content updates... Of course, I don't think they will keep up with that update schedule forever, but all things come to an end eventually... Glad to hear they will start updating soon though.

Cross: I agree with you on this: This is not really an update. It's an update in the respect that this is stuff we did not have access to before (at least online that is). Also, I hope that future "updates" will be more than just unlocking stuff that's already there. I'm fairly certain that this delay in giving us more than a beta's worth of content is due to, you know, that cataclysmic failure in their network at launch.

I see progress in that there is now the semblance of normalcy in PSU's operations...

I hope and pray it remains as such. SEGA can't afford to not keep up with, what I've called PSU in the past, an incredible application.

1.What the new level cap is
2.Will tech/weapon PA caps increase?
3.Will the class level cap increase?
4.Wlll all the weapon types be available?
5.Will new techniques be added?

Its still impossible. Infact the very notion of weekly updates thru content only unlockable from the disc is all in itself, ridiculous.

Perhaps an update every 3-4 weeks yes, but not every week, unless say they release something tiny every week like

Second Week: 2 new outfits!
Third Week: a new mission!
Fourth Week: 2 new rare weapon drops!
Fifth Week: 3 new synthesis recipes to be found!
Sixth Week: LV Cap raised to 55!

Otherwise everything will be unlocked within 3 months. Its totally illogical to think of any other way with unlockable content coming only from the disc, seriously.

Unless of course that expansion I been hearing about *I dont know bout this I only been hearing whispers, havent bothered to check IGN for it yet* is coming out within oh say 5 months of PSU EN release, then yea a update every week seems logical.

Let's keep the comments related to the content update. All other comments will be treated as off-topic. If you want to talk about the probable frequency of content updates for PSU, start a new thread.

On-Topic: It'll be nice to finally be able to play on Moatoob. I hope they open up some additional weapon types too.
