US Duping method confirmed

I was speaking with PlatinumGame today and he told me of a duping method that exists in the US version now. I then went and searched the usual boards for confirmation and it's all over CMGSCCC.COM Good Job Sega. You've failed yet again.

Honestly, it doesn't even bother me. They get to dupe but at a very high risk of corrupting their character, woopy woo. Not going to let it ruin my fun, thats for sure.

Look at the bright side, everybody - now they can link the US and JP servers since there is a duping bug in each!

This "bug" (it really can't even be considered that) existed in both Dreamcast versions as well. It's not exactly Sonicteam's fault either.

You could damage both your PSO System and Character files upon doing this...or even your memory card. In fact, there's a possibility that if you logged onto the server with a character who has utilized this trick, you could be banned.

If your character or system data was corrupted without you knowing it, and if you went online with that character, the server might find something wrong with your data and either ban the character or the serial number.

In the DC versions, when your character was corrupted without you knowing from doing this, you could get errors when logging on. The GC version could definately ban you.

Another possibility is that your character data will be "fixed" by the server (this could make you lose all your previous item data, even in bank).

The only real way to take advantage of this bug would be to use a completely different memory card, go online, trade the item, do all the work, and come back (then have the other person give it to your "real" character when you came back).

This is a lot of work just to duplicate items. Plus damaging your memory card or risking a possible banning (not highly likely though) aren't worth the risks. Damaged memory cards can even ruin your memory card ports.

(Edit: I forgot to mention that the server can "correct" character data that is corrupted)

If duping is the worst thing we have to worry about, big deal!. Dupes are harmless compared to 180% weapons and NOL. Relax and enjoy the game. When we have to deal with lobby fsod and pkers in every game then you have my permission to bitch like its the end of the world. I will be bitching too.

Seems corruption isn't the only thing to worry about, the guy who posted the dupe method also posted this a little later.

We should be thankful that duping is the only thing that has been accomplished thus far. If you have any sort of restraint in you, then you will not use duped weapons. There, problem fixed right? Once characters start killing other characters and havoc ensues in lobbies and so forth, then you can blame Sonic Team/Sega if they decide not to try and stop it.

It's amazing the reaction that people have when they read something and imediatly assume it's true. Has anybody else done any other homework on this subject? I just got done reading the thread at Ragol.com about this subject and they stated that it's not a problem with the servers or online substance. They mentioned that it's a software problem and that Sega was going to issue a recall but were being considerate to our needs and not pulling it off the shelves a couple of days after we got it. For all you that don't believe me go to Ragol.com and check out their Forums.
Besides, it's duping. Big F'ing Deal.

Noco-Esmaj, it's possible to duplicate items using this method, yes. It's not consistent though. The risks are also very high. Read my previous post. Also, most likely you will lose the item (95% of the time). It's nothing to worry about.

Dupeing... A joke... So what, if you see 3 no0bs in a game, all lvl 10, carrying Dark Flows? Doesn't bother me damn bit... Rush them through quick, watch the bosses hit them and kill them, before they have the chance to even get started with their weapons. Then just laugh... And laugh some more... As you kill the boss, and jack all the exp... Just a little fulfilment.

As for the risks... I wouldn't risk being banned, or my character, in any way. To much honest gaming put into him. And to much fun to be had. The other cheats looming on the dark horizon... They won't make me stop either... Simply, because, if they screw me over, i'll just come back tougher, and smarter.

Just be persistant... Either that, just play with good friends, or a decent legit gamer, you just happen to come upon. Once I get my modem for my cube, i'll be more than happy to play a game with anyone on PSOW. "ANYONE" You know why? Because, either way, i'm having a good time. Even if those other people hog the items. Or don't ress me... I expect hardship, and agony. It's what makes the game more intresting. The unexpected. Sure, i'll be pissed. And frustrated. But, i'll get over it, and come back... ^_~ And when I get the single item i'm looking for, or a kick ass weapon i'd never expect in a million years, pops up alone, right in front of me, with everyone else 3 miles away... I'll just smile... =)

I'm not bothered. Like everyone said, the risk alone is high enough to scare most of them away. Plus, there's gotta be more risks involved. People, don't diss ST. This isn't really their fault. I mean, look at it this way: Do you want VERY minimal duping, or NO offline play at all? That's what I thought. It's too risky to be done enough to disrupt the economy. And, as far as I'm concerned, if I traded legit items that I believe add up to the worth of another item, I don't care if that item was duped or not. Because, as far as I'm concerned, it's legit.
