I suppose it's possible, but very unlikely.

Most probably, someone got the dates for the strategy guide and the game itself mixed up, but the right price for the game.

They actually might. Their rovers that shoulda lasted 90 days have now been up there for 900+ because wind made their solar panels clear. They're now planning to send shipments of solar panels and materials and the such and trying to find any source of water and they'll test if it is suitable.

ON TOPIC: I doubt they'll release the guide before the game... the price is right, but the date is just weird. Everone check their Wal-Mart on the 16th-18th to see if it arrived ^_^

DVDBoxoffice.com also lists the date for the 360 version as October 16th, while the PS2 is listed for the 26th and PC for the 30th.
I'm not getting my hopes up, but if indeed it does come out earlier, I'll be thrilled http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Does anyone remember if it said the 16th before this? I remember looking to see if it had it a few weeks ago but I don't remember what the release date was then.

It makes me wonder if it was changed. If so, then it seems a bit more reliable. If it was the 16th all along it could've just been a presumptuous error that hasn't been corrected yet.

Well, regardless of how unlikely this all is, it was hardly an inconvenience to order it... and it will hardly be an inconvenience to cancel the order if it isn't right.

I'd much rather remain open-minded to the possibility than miss out on an opportunity, especially when it doesn't cost me anything.

I'd like to prove I'm also open-minded to the thought of the date being wrong, but that's much harder to do.

Wal-Mart has never released a game before release date. As a matter of fact, unless the game is declared by the mouthbreathing masses to be high profile (Devil May Cry, Madden, etc) they usually release it a week afterwards. I only check them when I am looking for consoles. I would stick with preordering at Gamestop, EB, etc. if you want to get a game early.

The people that got Saints Row a week ahead of the official website date were just hallucinating.

Obviously things like that never happen. Ever. It's inconceivable. Impossible.

Still, gambling $0.00 on the chance at having it a week early doesn't sound too bad. I appreciate that someone posted this information, regardless of whether it's right or not. Investment: 0, Payoff: 1 week of time not wasted waiting.

Even if Walmart IS wrong, again... I lost nothing. At all. So claim it's a huge mistake all you want but please don't berate people for following through with acting on this information if it doesn't cost anything to anyone.

Also, there's nothing fake about the information. It may be misinformation, or wrong, but it was not used to purposefully deceive others. It may be a mistake, but that's Walmart's fault not the person who brought it to attention.

For one, its illegal to release a game prior to the companies designated date. Two, even if your "theory" is correct, the servers will not support you until the actual game release date.

It's not illegal to break the street date (at least in North America); I don't know what your source is on that, but it's wrong.

Game publishers don't like stores that break the street date, and if it's done wantonly then there's the chance that those publishers simply won't deliver orders to that particular branch of stores, but a store can't get into legal trouble unless the company explicitly signs a contract for a particular game saying they'll wait until the street date or something.

A friend of mine from Jersey got Saint's Row a full 2 days early (the night before the shipping date). Forgot the name of the place he got it, but he said it was in the hood and he knew the owner. He told me the name, but I had never heard of the store before, but he said that they get most games on the shipping date, which is odd. So I can back up your confirmation. Wal-Mart however, bleh, I went in to get Ninety Nine Nights on release date, and they told me that they wouldn't get low profile new releases until a week afterward. I prompted a discussion with the clearly misinformed individual behind the counter discussing the definition of high profile, and came up with the conclusion that Wal-Mart is run by idiots. So, back on point, the devs may be shipping the games to some stores a little early in some cases to make sure they get there on time. Who knows...

As I said, there's no law against it. There are damages clauses in contracts - a store breaking a street date can potentially be fined a certain amount per game sold, they can be fined one lump sum, or the contract can be that they won't receive any early shipments of the company's next big game. There's no industry-wide regulation, though (this isn't true for music and movies), and the chances of a store being punished for breaking street date are directly proportional to how much the publisher cares about the game having a definite release date.

If you sell a guaranteed-blockbuster (think Halo, Grand Theft Auto, Madden, or even Half-Life and Final Fantasy) before you're supposed to, the publisher is going to ream your store for it. If you put Atlus McGenericRPG out on the shelves as soon as you get the shipment, the chance that anything is going to happen is fairly low.

Look at Gears of War. The street date is November 12, but it's creators have been very public about not caring whether stores sell it before that (the ship date is November 7). Nobody is going to be fined for selling it on the 7th, because there isn't a contract saying that they can't, and if there were, it probably just wouldn't be enforced.

Could a store be fined for breaking the street date on PSU? Yeah. Will they be? It's probably a 50-50 chance, but I honestly wouldn't really expect that.

Edit: I should note, though, that this varies by country. I'm not up to date on European law or anything, but as I understand it there actually is a law in a lot of EU countries for shops that sell games before they're supposed to.

I agree with Cross, I find it highly unlikely that SEGA will take legal actions against any store if they sell it before the street date. I have no idea what the shipping date is, but I believe it's somwhere around the 24th, meaning that if the stores get them early enough, they'll probably start selling immediately. The only reason people are saying that the 25th could be the street date is because for places on the Eastern coast, where it takes an extra day for stuff to get over here.

How do people get tangible facts mixed up like this? It's been clearly said for a long time that it's going to come out on the 24th, but still some people want to believe that it's going to come out on the 16th. You're going to believe walmart over the gamestores?

That's like saying "That blind man saw the accident too! He said it's the first car's fault" when everybody else saw that the second car rammed the first.

C'mon people, there's a fine line between naivety and hope. I'm clearly seeing a crossing of that boundary and it's kind of pitiful.

Tahldon
Oct 2, 2006, 11:51 PM
They could've made a mistake and sold it early. The way the game stores discribe street dates and what not, they may get away with it once, but they'd feel the pain the next time a heavy hitting game comes around. They'll get less copies cause they're not trustworthy.

Some stores take the chances though.

Although I dont think it is coming out on the 16th my local gamecrazy release date book says the 14th but Adam (the manager there) says that it is the 24th.
And another thing is that the 16th is not a Tuesday
(Tuesday being the day Wal-Mart and games pretty much every where are released.)

p.s. He has always been right about release dates.

Hey, moron. Get out of denial. The shipping date/release date is on the same day. The 24th is when the games are sent out. The only reason we say it's the 25th is because that's the date it's going to arrive.

There is no way they could have the games before they're even shipped.

And even if they did release them earlier, the servers probably wouldn't be up.

A local store near my house tried to sell Halo 2 early but a Microsoft employee came and threatened a $10,000 fine if they did. Just had to share that because it's completely insane lol. I doubt SEGA would enfore that though, PSU isn't anywhere near Halo-level popluar.

Over 70,000 people got Halo 2 early. I wasn't that pumped for it because I was just getting into FPS's
