View Full Version : great new info about PSOX

I just read in my new Gampro magazine that PSOX will come with a USB adapter so that you can plug in a USB compatible keyboard. From Official Xbox magazine they sa the game will have improved graphics, extra character, better connectivity options, and voice support. i know some of this info is old but most of it is new but it is all true and no longer a rumor. Otherwise it would have been in the rumor mole section of the magazine.

Tru any news is good news, especially if it doesn't mention the game not coming out at all.

haha the gamecube guy is yellow and the xboxer is blue.

I got my issue of GamePro today, and indeed, it does say that the Japanese version of PSO on Xbox will include an adapter for a USB keyboard to be used with the Xbox.

I read that article too, but I was dubious. If it's true, then that's *really* great news. The best news of all is the keyboard adapter.
Here's the real question: When does the game come out? The same article said the game would be released with Xbox Live in *Japan* in January 2003.
Will it be released next week with Xbox Live in US?
If so, why isn't it on the ads all over the friggin place? Surprise? Will it be a packaged game ala' Twisted Metal: Black Online for PS2 adapter?
If all this is true, and the game will really be all this and more on Xbox, and if it comes out next week (Nov. 15, the day *after* my birthday) I may be forced to trade in my BBA and my PSO for GC.
We'll just have to wait and see. Man, that keyboard thing is the best news ever.

I'm always a bit hesitant about OXM. Did they say at all what they meant by "better connectivity options"? I'm guessing the graphics won't be vastly improved over the GC version, considering Naka said that they really worked hard to get the Xbox version done so fast. But I guess any improvements are welcome. (I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the Xbox version.)

One new character wouldn't make too much difference.

Paper mags are usually quite a bit behind. I wouldn't be surprised if the brand new magazine you got went to the presses in September.
From the front page:
"The info about Graphics, voice supprt, connectivity, and extra character come from the Tokyo show section of the Official Xbox Magazine. Some of this is new info because the show just took place in Japan."
Seeing that TGS actually happened almost two months ago (weekend of Sept.20th), I'd bet the "improved graphics" are on the same par as the GC version (ie. improved over the DC/PC). So yeah, you're echoing things we know already.

ACk... damnit Microsoft! Give me the damn release date so I have time to return my PSO GC!! I only have 7 days to return this thing o.o! Most of this is pretty common sense though... Xbox has wayy better online play than GC could ever have; Xbox Live just never ceases to amaze me... Lag-Free Voice Chat and Gameplay! BRING IT ON!

I agree. I would return my PSO GC if I knew the release date for Xbox.

If only I had not so much distrust in official magazines, I could enjoy the news.
Until websites confirm these, I'll take them with a (big) grain of salt.
Xbox Live! is almost out. If still no official word from M$ about PSO after its launch, I don't think we'll have it before 2003.

oh yes oxm and gamepro are the most reliable sources evar!!!!
N00bs!!!!!!!
Taken from the new EGM:
"Keyboarding party:
If you are going to venture online,we heartily suggest that you invest in a keyboard.Sega promises that they'll have one available at launch, and it's an absolute must for the online experience.Plus the keyboard allows you to do crazy animations(like dancing or riding in flying chairs) by inputting different keystrokes in the online lobby."
Like Alisha said, take what's written in Magazines with a grain of salt....although i hope it's true for the XBox release.

I concur *nothing* I've read in magazines about PSO -- or any other game -- has been accurate.
If Xbox has voice chat, why do the pics have word balloons in them. I doubt it's even an Xbox pic.
March 2003. That's my guess on when we'll see it in the US. I hope it's earlier -- and I wish GC and Xbox gamers could play together *sighs*
Xbox people, you're system is very nice. I wouldn't even be on GC if not for PSO. I'm sorry you had to wait so long.

... I love PSO more than Gamecube and more than I hate M$ >.<; Damn you Bill Gates, I'm actually thinking about getting an Xbox now. Maybe if they let someone miniaturize & de-ugly the friggin' thing I'd buy it, cause I don't have space for a couch in my dorm room X.x

Does anyone else think voice in games isn't necessarily a GOOD thing? I've had enough of it already with Counter-hack. I like feeling 'in character', and voice chat would be very detrimental to that IMO cause of others who don't care about playing their character so much as playing the game (not a criticism), not to mention how f'd up it would make the lobbies if it was active there.

I've used the Voice Chat feature in other Xbox games.... (MotoGP mostly) and it's a welcome addition in my opinion. Sure you won't get ppl roleplaying as much but then again you get to really get to know ppl and their personalities... not just text.

The voice chat thing would sorta be annoying to people like me, which is to say males who play female characters often. If I had to explain "yes, I'm male, no I'm not a homo, no I don't like little girls, no I'm not a freak" to everyone I met online, I'd get really annoyed...with text only, people can just assume one way or another, and not have to deal with the disturbing image of a deep male voice issuing from that tiny FOnewearl over there. That's really going to drag some of the fun out of the game for some people. I'm all for the voice chat idea, but in an RPG, it just doesn't fit right.

You can't return it. The serial number. I gave my PSO v1 away when I sold my Dreamcast.

Ya dude look i'm not being critical or nething (well ya maybe I am)but if you have Gamepro go look at the article in it and look at the pic. Ok now see the on-screen buttons that tell you what you have customized. Check it out they are different that the GC's on-screen buttons and you know the pic ain't from DC b/c they are at the beach and jungle places the DC versions didn't have. How about them apples? Who said thaose voice bubbles weren't from a keyboard remember the dev kits came with those USB adapters too. This dev put up pics of the adapter so its not like M$ doesn't have the ability to make them. They have already made hundreds.

Good point. I should have looked more carefully.
I just want to know *when* PSO for Xbox will be out. If it's soon, I'll return my BBA, try to return my PSO GC (emphasis on *try* I know about the serial number deal) and pre-order PSOx. I'll also cancel my order for my $93 keyboard and give my borrowed Gamecube back to my brother. I mean I have 2 extra USB keyboards just laying around at home.
Then, when PSOx comes out, I can actually talk to the people because *they* will have PSO too.
I'm definitely not a fanboy for Xbox or Gamecube. I just want to play PSO with a keyboard!!

Well if the Gamepro magazine is true you will be able to talk(verbally) and chat(umm letterly, can't think of a verb for talking with keybard)
That's ok i didn't notice the on-screen button change till my fourth time reading over the article. I was stoked that somewere official besides here on the net gave info on the game.

I'm not entirely sure the game IS completed and in MS's hands. I checked the Software support at Xbox.com, which is generally pretty useful and truthful, and here's what I got:
Topic: When is the release date for Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II? I heard that Sega has delivered the completed product to Microsoft, so why isn't there a release date yet?
PatrickThis is in fact a rumor that is circulating around the internet. Microsoft does not have the completed product and is not hoarding it to frustrate the masses. Unfortunately, we don't have a release date for this highly anticipated game as yet, though.
Pherhaps MS is trying to save face from their current 'no info' policy on the game, or maybe it's the truth. Take it as you will.

Well, since this is your first post at this board... it's not a credible post. Considering I, myself, have gone onto the Xbox Online Support and asked that question myself and got a totally different answer, I believe the MS Support Team does not know the exact information that pertains to this game.

Ya i have talked to about each and every person there(there are about 8 of them) and the only thing they know for sure about the game is thqt it is coming to xbox but nothing else. One of them say that M$ does have it, another says the opposit, yet another says the game comes out in November, another says January, another says December. Michael says that as soon as something official comes out it will be all over xbox.com b/c the game is very much anticipated there.

I don't believe that Gamespot would publish that article, in which Yuji Naka says that the game is in MS's hands, if he didn't actually say it. And I doubt that Yuji Naka would be lying to Gamespot.
Mono_Monk: Yes, I realize that it wouldn't be credible as a first post, but I have to make a first post somewhere. It's alot better than "HI IM NEW K OLOL", don't you think?
Tigertron: Hrm. Interesting. So perhaps the support folks are just speaking out of their asses.
Wraith: After I thought about it, I agree. But why the rep. would say otherwise is beyond me.

Lol whoever said March 2003 for the Xbox release is an idiot. The PSO JP launch date is January 2003, which is when XBL launches in Japan. So I'm assuming we'll get it on that date, or before it, but surely not AFTER.

... I plan to keep playing the GameCube vesion even after getting the X-Box one. If I can manage to rip myself away from ShenMue II and Vice City long enough that is. A release date would be nice. I probably won't get X-Box live until PSO comes out, or Halo 2... which ever comes first.

Apparently, you have not seen the screens for the XBOX version were it shows the Voice Effects: text down on the right hand corner of the PSO screens, but hey, I bet you wont be disappointed like the GC people are going to be when they find out that the GC version has been DISCONTINUED in stores.

Dont know why but, you will not be seeing to many more people on that GC PSo in awhile!
