I was just seeing if people are going to play for the story or the online mode because there has been a lot of comments about getting the game only for story mode. Whats up with that? Shouldnt you get the game for the online game play like pso on dreamcast? This game should be meant for online right?

Offline is good for getting a look at the level and bosses first, though, so that you kind of know what you're doing online. At least this time there's a real story, not reams and reams and reams of text balloons..

I'm getting it for Online, but I plan to play story, too.

I'm buying it for online play.

I think the heavy focus on the single play is stupid.

no one likes single play games anymore.

I'm getting the game for both. I loved PSO from DC to GC, but I've been a Phantasy Star fan since I was a kid. The offline portion of PSU is the first dedicated Phantasy Star RPG in more than ten years. So while I'll likely spend a lot more time online, I'm pretty psyched about the offline game too.

However, in a sense, DoubleAA is right. Phantasy Star Universe is meant as an online game, and I would think that you would be wasting your money if you only wanted to play the offline section of this game.

There are other games that do specialise a little or a lot more better in story and offline gameplay than PSU itself for sure.

Of course, the offline part is a good way to play the game while not being online, but I think that a real offline Phantasy Star game would be totally different to PSO or PSU.

I somehow doubt this games ability to pull me into it's story... So with that said, it's obvious I'm buying it for the online. And that of course has always been what I've wanted it for.

i would LOVE a new offline only phantasy star, imagine the size of it if the graphics were like the current installment but without the data for the online stuff.

I'm loving the story mode ok its easy but the game is meant for online so the REAL game is online, nobody expects anything else. although the inclusion of a real story this time around is a real bonus and gives a little (and i mean little) closure at the end unlike trying to see rico and heathcliff at the end.

OK, that comment has garnered my hate. What kind of idiot says something like that? The focus on the singleplayer is NOT stupid, in fact it's very well founded. Phantasy Star first started out as an single player game, and it was only until 2000 that it moved into the online universe. True PS fans have been without a new installment in singleplayer mode for like a decade almost.

If noone likes single player games anymore...

Then why is Sega releasing a new Sonic the Hedgehog for 360? Hmm...

I think its great that this time around they have a 'ture' offline story, as well as the extra mode ( which doesnt carry your character's data to the online portion ). To me, it more or less shows that the developers have put alot of time and work in making the game, and wont be an RPG or MMO/MO (w/e) that haves a near non-existant story in its online portion.

Depending on my situation ( now ) I think I may be playing offline for a bit, maybe at least up until the beginning-mid november before making an online account.

I'll play Online first, because I'm playing Offline with the japanese version. But I'll most likely play story mode as I play when friends aren't online in IRC or whatever.

Phantasy Star Universe was meant to be both, which has been repeated in interviews several times previous.

Personally, I would say that you'd be missing out on the full experience if you didn't at least try both.

jeez. Some people're acting like the original RPGs didn't exist or somthing. Ofcourse there's a large portion of people excited over the single player story, since they're hoping for it to be like the old ones.

Also, dosn't the online story take place after the offline story? Wouldn't it make sense to know everything that's going on anyway?

I'm buying it for both. I'll start off the first day playing the offline game, and join in on the online a bit later after I get the hang of it.

I see myself playing online extensively and maybe glancing at offline a couple of times. I doubt I will finish the offline portion of the game. I am buying the game solely for its online capabilities.
