Blenjar
Oct 10, 2006, 06:40 AM
I know i saw a topic reguarding this but I couldn't find it.

This is the first time I buy something from Walmart..not that I hate them or love them but..I just dont go there.

Anyway
Walmart Link (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?dest=9999999997&product_id=5013083&sourceid=0100000030910868702498)
I just ordered mine with 1 day shipment to the 17th..which is a week from now...
$80 bux if u want it sometimes on the 17th.
I got class that day but I think I'll skip my school day...and I hope my new job doesn't start that week.,..well wait I do want to work..the $$$!!

$; second
PSU; third

Question:
Walmart delivers with UPS or FEDEX?
Just wondering so I can maybe drive to the warehouse and pick it up myself..

I realize Wal*Mart is like the Evil Empire and all-powerful and stuff, but how the hell could they possibly have PSU on-shelf and ready to ship via Fed Ex ONE WEEK before the street date of October 24th?

I'm not being sarcastic, I'd actually like to know.

I already ordered my 360 version, because they also sent me Saint's Row a full week ahead of release...Here's to hoping it gets here on the 17th http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I'm either gonna be a Force/Hunter Human, or a Hunter/Force Beast, depending on my experience with the Beta.

SaviorSe1f
Oct 10, 2006, 09:34 AM
One thing I'm not sure of, is if the servers will be up before the 24th, even more so now that they are running the Beta until the 18th. They may not open the official servers til release date (10/24) which means we'll be stuck playing Offline/Extra Mode...which isn't a bad thing, I guess. I can put away the offline story mode before the servers are even up. No wasting precious online time!

Blenjar
Oct 10, 2006, 09:35 AM
True...but wtf..at least we can maybe finish the game before online..lol

Bleemo
Oct 10, 2006, 09:36 AM
This should be incorrect. The beta is like-a kinda goin' on durin' the 16th.

Though, if it's correct, yay for Wal-Mart hax!

So is it really possible to get it a week early from walmart?? that would be insane

AquaFlare7
Oct 10, 2006, 09:40 AM
I personally doubt the validity of the suggested date, because I used to work in the industry. If a game is given a "street date" by the developers, then retailers cannot legally release it until that date under penalty of law.

Now does this mean Wal-Mart could have paid the big guys at Sega for an exclusive early release? Possibly, but not very probable. I will, however, admit that stranger things have happened.

SaviorSe1f
Oct 10, 2006, 09:40 AM
yea, it's definitely "possible". Walmart has a reputation for getting an early shipment and saying "screw the release date". Like I said they shipped Saint's Row out from their website almost 10 days before the official release date.

Correct. I know if you pre-order from EB Game's website you get a sound track with it but then you have to wait on the extra shipping times. Sucks that you guys are going to be on the 360 version though /cry

Bah, the Gamestops here in Jacksonville, Florida aren't honoring that promotion. No biggie though, I'll get enough of the music from playing it and if I wanted an OST that bad I would just record them myself.

No. This time around the offline mode is a completely separate game with a rich story. You play as a main character, and nothing offline interacts with online. Hopefully this prolongs the time in which the game is immune to hacking?

Veneratius
Oct 10, 2006, 10:00 AM
Ok, thanks AquaFlare7, and yes I totally agree, I hope that there is little to no hacking with the 360version seeing as how much more difficult it is to hack a 360 compared to the original Xbox. But for the PC users, I wish you the best with the hackers http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

I just don't understand this... the OFFICIAL PSU site says on the top page "The Battle Begins October 24th."

How could Wal Mart possibly be shipping a full week earlier than that?

I went to that Walmart link and i see what you mean, but HOW?!?!?!

SephYuyX
Oct 10, 2006, 10:18 AM
It could be a missprint.

Considering walmart has in the past screwed up and released a game earlly, they have and anyone who does release a game earlly, can get fined up to $250k per game sold.

PC Will be fine. I am more concerned with the limitations of the PS2 memory card storage security for patches and updates. The first cheats to be released will be done on the PS2 with a gameshark/codebreaker type of device, guaranteed.

when you click on estimated date, they have a range for like 7 days, estimated time of shipping is 17-24, i also think they can ship early in teh interest of competing with stores, i rem my ffxi shipped early, although it basically arrived the same day or maybe 1 day earlier than stores. so basically they could do it, other could as well, but they may be more concerned with matching the dates

walmart has gotten a lot of things ahead of schedule, saints row and the vision camera for the 360 were out before they were supposed to be... i pre ordered it off walmart so we will see what happens... i should have it the 18th or 19th according to them ( could of had it the 17th but dont want to pay 16 bucks for shipping, probably so much because its coming from the warehouse). as for the est. shippng from the 17-24th thats only standard shipping basically, theres 2-3 day and next day.... we will see what happens next week.

I preordered through walmart as well with the 3 day shipping. So Hopefully I'll get it by the 19th. Here is the thing though walmart says preorder this item and it SHOULD ship on the 16th, thats not really a guaranteed thing. The receipt you receive after preordering says it WILL arrive at such and such date. Also if you look at their website they have the PS2 and PC versions listed as shipping on the 24th it could all be a mistake, and if anything if it doesn't arrive by the specified date I'll be contacting them about their fraudulent advertisement and complain til I get free Overnight http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

i wasn't really surprised at this. i've gotten a few games before there release date. Saints Row, Ninety Nine Nights, Metal Gear Subsistance.

But i'm pretty sure the server wont be up until release. But hey at least you can clear the story before then right.

One, I highly doubt Wal-mart will be releasing this game early.

Two, even if they do, you won't be able to get online, because the servers won't be up until the official release date. They may even have something similar to the Japanese release, where anyone who tries to get online before the official release has their account permanently banned.

It could very easily be a possibility from Wal-Mart. You do remember the Nintendo DS Lite release? They released it early. WAY early. The same could definitely happen with PSU... =<_<=

Hemorrhage
Oct 10, 2006, 05:23 PM
Even IF they did ship PSU out early (which can happen, games are usually done and printed (and sometimes shipped) way before the release date) the online servers will not be up before the 24th. So if you happen to get it, Offline only for yas.

But I doubt it, Wal-mart would get in trouble for selling it early.

Kyunji
Oct 10, 2006, 05:26 PM
October 24th is the ship date. In other words, no stores will even have the game until then. Chances are that this is a just a mistake on Wal-Mart's part, like 1UP.com changing PSU's release date to April 20th, 2007.

If I was an online store I know what I'd do, set an early 'false' ship date, in the hopes of getting people to pre-order the product from me, and then turn around and say "stock won't arrive till actual "offical" shipping date", haha.

While I'm not saying walmart did this, as they've been known to get pre-releases, you gotta admit it'd be a good move! while you'd have a number of people cancelling their order as soon as they were informed and going with their regular games store, there would bound to be a number of people who wouldn't bother cancelling.

No. Like I said, Wal-Mart won't even be able to get the game until the 24th. There is absolutely no chance of anyone getting the game early from Wal-Mart.

Heheh, sorry I touched a nerve. I applied for a job once at Wal-Mart and they turned me down because I was overqualified, and all I did was graduate high school... But seriously, their corporate idea of high profile is something like Madden 07 or King Kong, go figure. Wal-Mart execs hate RPGs lately, they rarely focus on them as high profile, but they used to be pretty good about it from 1985-1990 with NES and SNES RPGs. I guess management shifted or the real owners are comatose while they have some guy in a chicken suit making the rules. Eh, public consumer anti corporate rant......off ^_^

And I'm not a moron, but I don't think you are either.

Wal-mart is the most evil store ever made. They plan on world domination. I'm certainly not buying PSU from it

Why do you people hate walmart? Walmart is the greatest store ever. Preorder or no I still ordered it from them. Gimmie that good ol' capa-tol-ism baby.

Because WalMart screws producers, product manufacturers, its workforce, and local businesses just so you can save a couple cents on shampoo and tube socks.

If this ends up being true, I'd love to have the game early, but not if it means ordering it from them.

Man, if I can't buy tube socks in PSU at one of the shops, I'm going to be SO mad at Walmart.

I'm a little confused about this topic, all Walmarts are getting PSU a full week ahead of schedule?

I'm with you there. But RPGs aren't true "money bringers" its the Dang sports series and racing games. *sigh*

Oh..and I wasn't calling "you" a moron. I just meant that I get plenty who are.
As for "overqualified"...yeah..they lied...badly. That's most places "nice" way of saying they arent hireing. Wal-Mart doesn't only hire simpletons. Well....mostly. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Sigh....maybe I could work off this stress by playing PSU open Beta on LIVE on my days off today and tommorrow.

My mom works at Wal-Mart, I'll ask her about the whole PSU thing, so she can probably check to make sure for us all. xD The only thing I have doubt about are the servers, if they'll be up before the 24th. Otherwise, I'd rather just wait. Add me to your friendslist~ >>
