I was hoping to get some opinions on a good PC controller for PSU since I don't know what exactly I should be looking for. Will *any* PC controller work fine for PSU? I'm looking to spend $50 or less, and my options are basically Wal-mart or Circuit City http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif I can get to a Gamestop but I wasn't sure if they sold PC controllers. Also, are PC controllers pretty simple to configure with games such as PSU? Any help would be appreciated.
By the way, first post here, although I've been lurking for a *very* long time. So hello! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_bondage.gif

you might want to watch out for the 360 controllers with a PC they are cheap and nice controllers but people have been running ninto problems with the rumble feature if your dead set on having it.

Well, the way I see it, rumble on a PC game is unheard of. I know my PS2 controller won't ever rumble connected to my PC... (HEY KINDA LIKE PS3's CONTROLLER AMIRITE?)

Welcome to the forum! I say get a 360 controller, it's a bit more complicated to set up though, and there are rumble problems apparently, but I don't use rumble for RPGs, so eh, and it's very comfortable to hold. I can help you set it up if you decide to go that route.

Oh, he went there. But yeah, I hear the Xbox controllers are the way to go if you don't care either way if you get a cheap lap..err rumble feature or not.

I suggest the Xbox 360 controller too. The wired controllers are usable for the PC. With an adapter, so is the wireless.

And OsF, You must have adapter problems. Because the rumble works on my PS2 controller when I used mines.

Is there already a guide to setup the 360 controller for PC floating around by any chance?

Logitech is much simpler, install cd, plug-in controller, play. Plus you can always buy that little extended warranty when you purchase it at Best Buy for like 10 or 15 extra bucks....That way if it breaks you get a free new one http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I don't think the wireless will work. I CAN say that a play and charge kit CANNOT be used as a wireless to wired controller adapter. The wired you can just plug into your PC since it's just USB anyway.

You need a wireless receiver from Microsoft to make it work.

Crap. Was hoping for some cheap wired solution. (That didn't involve actually buying the wired controller.)

The only cheap wired solution you'll get is a third-party controller, and I wouldn't recommend those to my worst enemy. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

lol, or wiring up one of the old xbox controllers if you have one, but that takes soldering skills and a USB device you want to kill.

Oh I'm just fine with my PS2 controller on a ghetto serial port adapter.

As for the old Xbox controllers... lol. Whats so great about the 360 is it's layout is nearly identical to the PS2. The old Xbox, though, eugh. You got either the dinner plate (which was fine, really.) and that piece of shit S-type with the BAD BUTTON PLACEMENT. (Whoever thought it was a good idea to place the Start/Back and Black/White UNDER the main buttons so you gotta take your thumbs OFF the main buttons, crunch them as far back as they'll go, just to hit these tiny ass buttons, KILL YOURSELF. BECOME AN HERO.)

mogshaz

The S isn't horrible, the black and white buttons are just about useless and you could tell every game developer knew it even Bungie just used them for turning on your flashlight in halo and switching grenades. The other buttons had alright placement and the pressure sensitve triggers were nice.

Well there is a better choice.

Forget cheapo(expensive are also cheapo) pc controllers that have no long term hand comfort, and forget the 360 wad of icecream
Get a ps2 controller or use the one you likely already have and have trusted for ages.

Go to radioshack and get a PS2 to USB converter in the PC controller section(yes ps2 the system not the pc port style).
Should only be about 7-8 bucks. I've noticed some radioshacks don't have this though, just due to being sold out and waiting orders.

PC games can support rumble by the way.

I've been playing the last few years on ffxi using this thing, and the rumble worked just fine, functioned on critical hits, big spells, when large monsters put there feet on the ground. This product has never ever failed me, sometimes I got the error though, when you start up it will act as if the analog sticks are off center,
all you have to do to fix this is rotate them in a circular motion a few quickj times. This is only when you start though, doesn't do it randomly in gameplay.

Beware PC controllers, Airflow I can warn you against. I went through a few of those, went through a few of other brands to, I suggest never trusting a PC specific controller. With all pc specific controllers you have to have it plugged in when the game starts,(sometimes when computer starts), and if it unlpugs you have to restart the game/computer. This might of only been for ffxi though.

Sorry if you have a pc controller you really love and I hurt your fealings, I've never tried the logitech, but since I had a ps2 controller for my pc, I figured no reason to switch. Besides the converter costs 7.99 if I recall.

I agree. If you have a ps2 controller, get a ps2-usb adapter. I just got a super joybox 3 from play-asia so I could use a ps2 arcade joystick with my PC, but the ps2 controller also worked so well on PC that I ended up putting away my old pc controller (a Saitek p880).

I have a few PC controllers and all of them work with the PC version so far without any hassle really. I have 2 MS Sidewinders that don't have enough buttons to handle all of the actions. (but they still operate as much as they are able)

I have been using a Nyko Airflo with no problems and I also have a logitech wireless (forget the model name) which works pretty flawlessly. You don't have to turn anything on in options to enable the gamepad, if it's installed on your PC, PSU should detect it once you start the game.

There is an .ini file to customize the buttons to your liking, not sure if there is a more user friendly way of doing it, as i haven't really tried stumbling through the japanese text in the option menus just yet.

Get a dreamcast controller for the old school feeling, works great.

I think it's about time to retire my old PC controller (which was great until it had an accident involving a certain younger sibling), I've heard a lot about the 360 controller so I'm gonna try that out.

Radioshack has a thing (Yes calling it a thing) that can connect your PS2 Controller to your PC. This way you can have the same controlls as you would on your PS2. I did this for FFXI and it was great.

Well...
I bought a Logitech controller and installed JoyToKey so that I can customize the button controls to suit my own personal preference. I'm most used to the PS2 controller, so I try to costumize the buttons to emulate it. I've been very happy with it. No problems or complains. ^_^

I believe they called it a PS2 to PC Port. Or PS2 to PS port. Something like that. Runs about $20. You can set what button you want each to do to match the PS2 version, or whatever is comfortable for you.

I'm picking up Logitech Rumblepad 2 (wired most likely). My roommate and I use his rumblepad 2 and another crappy gamepad for mugen and such in our common area. Never had any problems with it and he's had it for awhile (plus its logitech, I'm a brand whore for them when it comes to my pc input accessories) so I decided to take his advice and grab one for myself.

I have that thing. . . It worked great for me playing City of Heroes/Villains. Don't ask about my HOW I assigned the controls >_>

360 pad is the best. The PS2/USB is good but it's hard to find. They stopped selling them in Wisconsin Radioshacks http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

If you're really desperate to use a PS2 controller and none are in stock, play-asia stocks this kinda stuff ~

i was gonna get that since it came with 2 rechargeable batteries but it felt too cheap. got a 360 controller. now that thing is durable "trust me" the things i've done with the controller after losing a match of dead or alive over xbox live :/ and it still works flawlessly. i like the 360 controller best, i personally HATE the playstation controller but everyone has thier hates and likes.

I think the 360 PC cont works great with PSOBB,so I can only assume, since there already are playable versions of the 360 game. That you should be able to use the xbox cont with out any snags...
