if these are correct, it confirms my theory that because of the expansive and social nature of the game, the achievements would just be offline story stuff and largely lame. But hey...these'll pad your gamerscore something fierce!

Gamerscore determines your ranking online.

Last I checked the person with the highest gamerscore in the world had around 38000 points... and climbing...

these achivements are pretty easy. all they really do is show much time you put into a game. rumor was along tiem ago microsoft will allow you to get stuff with tehm but i doubt it.

lol... It's just a single achievement... Complete offline mode: 1000pts... lol

StanleyPain
Oct 11, 2006, 10:49 PM
Exactly. Heh.

For the record, I like achievements, but I don't obsess over them like some people do. I like it when they're just little, cool hallmarks of your experience, like in Oblivion, where they mark when you pass certain points. I was hoping for that in PSU, frankly. I wanted to see stuff like "Reached Level 10...Reached Level 50" and things like that.

But I hate achievements that are largely based around ridiculous goals like "BEAT DOOM 8 TIMES IN A ROW WITHOUT DYING OR BLINKING YOUR EYES - 400 PTS"
I like it when they chronicle the game for the most part.

True... but they HAVE to have at least 5 acheivements and exactly 1000 gamerpoints in every game...

Can't get much easier then "beat the linear storyline" though.

I like to compete with my friends who have a 360. Compare gamerscores to see whos the better gamer.

Yeah, most of the achievemnts require a god awful amount of skill.

Geometry Wars anyone? Survive for 250 K points? I THINK NOT

Im not to surprised about teh achievements. if you played Echanted arms it was all beating the bosses. it was the same for oblivion. In rpg games it just seems logical that you would get them like this.

StanleyPain
Oct 11, 2006, 11:27 PM
Yeah, but there's all kinds of crap they could have done. They could have done achievements for specific levels. Lets' say level 25, level 50, level 100...something like that. (yes I now you can't go that high online)
They could have done little ones for low points all in a cluster like "Buy your first room decor" or "first piece of clothing".

Ones for evolving your PM. All sorts of stuff.

Natrokos
Oct 11, 2006, 11:28 PM
^ They could've done 'unlock Fighgunner option' 'Reach level 50' 'Travel to Neudiaz' 'Get called a n00b and kicked from party' 'Make some dumb kid 40 lvls lower then you cry in rl.' They skipped online.....I'm not upset just kinda curious why they halfassed it.

I'm curious as to where the source got these from, personally. Actually, I think from various screenshots and videos we know for a fact that some of these are actually translated a bit differently. Hmm.

definately the easiest 1000 for me to get. i mean hey i could have rented King Kong and gotten a easy 1000, but im not a acheivement whore, i actualy like my acheivements to reflect the effort i put forth in a game ^_^

oh and to me, the acheivements are to get more out of your game. lets take DOA4, after you have beaten the game with all the chars there is still a LOT more to do. the acheivments push me to my next goal so i can get the most out of a game and not just let it gather dust after 2 weeks.

Agreed, the achievements are pretty lame. If could have been worse though, they could have had achievements for Extra mode (I'm so not playing that http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif).
Was hoping for some cool online achievements. Unlocking each of the Expert Types and getting to max level should have been some of the available achievements.
Guess PSU is going to be the second game I get a full 1000 in, the first was Enchanted Arms, which also requires you just to play it through (you have to get both the good and the bad ending though, bad ending is for 25 points).

I think achivments are a VERY cool idea. Unfortunitely due to flaws of human behaviour, it is quite useless and innaccurate.

I don't have a 360 yet nor even seen one with my own eyes(I'll be getting one tommorow) so I'm not sure how they display the rankings.

Nothing wrong with going after achievments in games that you enjoy, but there's somethin' not right about buying a game for the sole purpose of getting your gamerscroe up.

But hey, I can't wait to own a 360! Payday is tommorow!

Bigger Gamerscore = Bigger E-peen

Hey some people have to be good at something to feel good about themselves. Really though, Microsoft did an awesome job with the Gamerscore. I mean, do you think that guy with 80,000+ Gamerscore would have purchased/rented so much Xbox360 content/games if there weren't numbers attached to an online ranking somewhere? I think not...props to MS for feeding off the masses.

Oh yeah and uh, Gamerscore for PSU is meh, whatever. Online FTW.

Weak!

All offline achievements for an online RPG?!

They couldn't add S-Rank, job class maxing, character level maxing, etc...for achievements? Boo-urns.

Coxy
Oct 12, 2006, 07:57 AM
My E-peen is a reasonable 15441, I obviously need more games http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

For all those who want online achievements:

1. They can be added in later (ie kameo) however they would be worth 0 points

2. I'd rather they turned out an awesome game with crap achievements than the other way around

Awesome post. I forgot the fact that ST can add a bunch of online achievements down the road.

Well said.

this is a positive thing because this encourages even casual people to get the game even if its just for the achievements. I know ppl who just get almost any game just to unlock achievements if the are simple to get. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Awesome, sounds better than the FFXI ones. Looks like all you have to do to get 1000 is beat the game. With FFXI, I played an entire summer and could not unlock one achievement because all the achievements were godly impossible to obtain unless you have no life. (My apologies to those with no life)

ya that was going overboard. I pity the friends that still play FFXI, but I guess they are having 'fun' spending hours/days looking for a party to level.

Unfortunately this will promote alot of "jump and dump". Those only concerned with achievement will buy one GUARDIAN license get the achievements, play a little network while there license is still good, and then drop once its expired. I can forssee gobs of add/drops to X360 folk's friend lists.

Yeah I still have a few friends stuck on the time sink that is FFXI. They are so addicted to it it's funny. They were all really cool with me after I stopped playing regularly until I gave them all my items, and now I never hear from them anymore... Interesting...

ya they could add online achievements later.

FF11 had none at all until much later they added some.

even if they add more you wont get any points for them because games only get 1000 points. if they add more they would be worht 0 pts and only there as title only. for example in DOA if you got certain ranks online they gave you zero points.
