View Full Version : Preparing for the worst situations during PSU Xbox360 beta

this isn't a pessimistic discussion,

it's really to prepare everyone so that anything that goes wrong won't slap everyone unexpectedly. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

with the server issues Japan is having, I wonder how much better Xbox360 servers will be better taken care of?

this beta test is definitely a stress test, since there has never been a PSU stress test for this system before. they already tested PC during May and tested PS2 around August.

so ya this beta will be very important for SOA and whoever is watching over Xbox360's servers to learn what will end up going right and wrong during the beta and possibly the final version. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

and it's also apparent that whatever we may face might not be resolved anytime soon. but whatever it might not be so bad.

*for one thing is downloading the beta, which I think ppl will have little problems downloading completely, though some might have to wait longer if traffic gets really bad.

http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/cone.gif

*the next thing is successfully logging in and starting to play. there is a small chance, ppl might get the legendary errors that prevent them from playing online. so don't be surprised if it happens. it may be fixed in a day or two and more people will be able to play before the beta is over.

http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_salad.gif

*something else is some things during gameplay that might seem weird or out of place or even interferes with our playtime. like not being able to re-enter our Room or something like that. but ya these cases are most likely not gonna happen.

http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/watermelon.gif

*then if the population or something forces them to block out players until maintenance fixes some things that get in the way of comfortable beta testing/playing, then that might test ppl's patience. maybe.

http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/burger.gif

but ya, what do you think and what are you prepared for when this beta comes out and stuff? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

if something goes wrong will you be like
"rawr! I'm so mad! *explodes*"

or will you be like "hmmm I expected this would happen."

If Saner has too much of anything, it's care. You care too much, Saner. Such a big heart.

well Im not worrying I'm just being a wittle cautious. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

besides its safer to have low expecations that way if its not a rough start then we can go "whee!" and wuv it even more. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

How exactly am I supposed to prepare myself... and what am I preparing myself for?

Shock from the servers going down?

Saner, lighten up and stop worrying so much, life isn't dependant on PSU.

I try to be optimistic about this sort of thing but then I remember this is Sonic Team and I'm back to being a pessimist.

Well, no need to worry or be concerned. All we can do is hope for the best. I think everything will turn out alright, especially if they get enough feedback from the beta testing. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

ya I'm positive the beta will be at least playable. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

cute is the last thing i wanna be XP but who knows, maybe Sega meant a downloadable demo VIDEO of gameplay that will only be available during the weekend XD

just pulling your chain of course, but im sure something like that would sign a lot of suicide pacts here XD

aaaaaaah just a video of it instead of playable beta would be simply throwing their potential sales out the window!!!!!!!

well exaggerating. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

Definately. Most of the people waiting for beta cut themselves a little when it was delayed. Suicide pacts would without a doubt be signed if they yanked everyones chained and put a movie up for download instead of the game. X__x

ya Im surprised they havent even released a trailer of the game on Marketplace yet. and its 2 weeks away!

Halo 3 has at least a teaser trailer and its not coming until next year!!!!

Ye,

There isn't a thing to worry about Saner. Of course there will be server complications here and there; although, I'm hoping it won't be severe.

I expect beta to have some hiccups, I wouldn't be suprised if it didn't. However, it'll prove a good experience for those that haven't had a chance to play PSU and give users a head start.

edit: Don't take my posts the wrong way, I'm just blunt.

Prepare for the worst situations? What? Like go to my local Wal-Mart and buy 35 things of bread and 28 gallons of milk to help me last through the PSU drought? Should I hide in my basement or in-between a doorway to protect myself?

Servers crash, bugs show up, exploits are found....welcome to the intarweb.

Saner
Oct 12, 2006, 12:05 PM
in-between a doorway!?!?!? that's dangerous! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/sprite.gif

Well...yea. If a bug comes at you one way, exit the other. Always have a backup plan.

If the Beta where to be shut down for a day or two, I hope Sega will give us an extra day or two to play the Beta. It seems only logical right? Right...? I probably just said something pretty humorous just then.

Oh well... Here's to pessimism! Everyone, start your worrying! Beta will be shut down an hour after launch due to errors that kept it being delayed, and it will be down for another two days, potentially delaying the release its--*cries*

aaaah now that's overdoing it. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Want to hear overdoing it? If you even ATTEMPT to download the beta your 360 memory will be wiped and your entire block will lose power for the rest of the day.

I think I need an anvil and a a baloon to make it hover over your head and a bow and arrow more than a paddle. But keep the polls rolling Saner, you're a PSO-World V.I.P. now thx to your poles. I think that they should give you a spotlight. Or a second one if you alreayd have a first.

Saner, it's OPEN BETA. We are TESTING. Of course we will face PROBLEMS. Saner, you got to really take a chill pill. Ever since I been here you have had A LOT of douts that I'm suprised you just didn't gave up on the title. Just trust SEGA with what they are doing and have faith that things don't go wrong.

There's no "I won't really care either way..." option Saner. You gotta look out for those of us who generally don't worry or are too lazy to have worries in the first place. I'm having a friend download it though, maybe I'll recruit another person onto PSU even if we won't be on the same servers. Of course, if they don't like it... It's more playtime for me.

The worst that can happen is that square enix could get too angry because psu sold out and send an unprovoked missle to all psu consumers.
