View Full Version : Chair Etiquette

If you are going to be in a chair in the lobby for an extended amount of time, please make sure that you stand up and sit back down every 5 minutes or so. If you don't, people that are in that lobby for a long time with you will FSOD. This is especially true of crowded lobbies.

When someone joins a lobby, everyone in that lobby that is sitting in a chair sends a packet saying that they are sitting down. This makes sense because the new user needs to know this information and the server doesn't keep track of it (much like the current X/Y coordinates in the lobby).

The problem is that *everyone* receives this packet, not just the new user. When the client receives a packet from someone already sitting down, it decides to make them sit down again (the single biggest factor in the bug). You may have noticed that when someone joins all the existing people in chairs sit down again. The reason the bug occurs is *the client doesn't delete the old chair*. A new chair is added, right on top of the old chair. You may have noticed that chairs seem to intensify in color over time (especially Pinkal, which becomes white). After a while, so many chairs will be drawn that the game will run out of memory.

Sonic Team is lazy for not fixing this. This can be fixed entirely on the server, by not forwarding "I am sitting down" packets to those that have already seen them for that particular user.

Yep... I think it's time for Final Fantasy XI when it comes out on these shores next year. It's not going to be as fun as PSO's action-based combat to me, but I've had it with the numerous bugs and other issues that PSO has. They fix one bug and make two more. It wouldn't be such a big deal if not for the fact that my characters and inventory are constantly at risk because of said bugs. If this were any other game, I probably would have bashed it to hell and back.

At least there is a fix for this that player can implement if lazy ST don't, i had wondered why pinkal chairs started and went bright white, now I know, and other chair with deeper color.

FSOD is a pain that no one likes, chair etiquette is the way!

There seems to be a new bug discovered everyday :/ Good thing I returned it! XD SEGA probably just wants to release a "Limited Edition" later on and charge us full price again! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

And once again, instead of coming to psoworld to explain your technical blah blah, go to Sonic Team, email them, let THEM know since THEY can do something about it.

Exactly.

Did this bug along with the Halloween themed server cause the horrible lag everyone had experienced?
I think I can safely assume so.

HUR HUR HUR... really? These bugs wouldn't annoy me if not for the fact that my ENTIRE INVENTORY AND CHARACTER ARE CONSTANTLY AT RISK. I can't carry more than one weapon at all times because I'm afraid to lose anything, thus making the quick-weapon-select menu kind of pointless for me. I was expecting to be able to play PSO GC like I would the initial days of the Dreamcast release, but that was nothing more than wishful thinking. I'm in password-protected games just like I always was. It's sad really.

You're just stating the obvious regarding bugs in other online games. Of course there will be bugs in FFXI. I've played several online games, not just PSO, so I think I know what to expect. Yeah, thanks.

BTW Dangerous55, FFXI may be doing poorly in Japan by Squaresoft's standards, but it's sold twice as much as PSO GameCube in that market. I guess that means FFXI is twice is good by your logic, since sales apparently determine a game's worth. As for infinite cash, there was an exploit through FFXI's Bazaar system. It was fixed, unlike PSO E1/2's exploit to let you dupe anything and everything you want. And for the record, FFXI /IS/ coming to these shores.

For the record people, if you're trying to jump to conclusions and assume I think FFXI is a better game than PSO or any other similar thought, piss off. I'm just making commentary, it doesn't change your enjoyment of the game any. I'm not expecting the second coming when I play FFXI, as I expect it to be your typical MMORPG with Japanese-style character designs instead of US-style artwork.

I said it was doing terrible in Japan, I never said its a bad game because its doing terrible in Japan. I could care less which is better, PSO is really making me mad, I bought my GC for it, RARE games, and RE. I might even sell my GC, considering PSO is pretty lame in my opinion.

And about it being released here, tell that to the people who reported that it may not be released.

Actualy your wrong.

FFXI has NOT sold twice as much as PSO in japan. PSO has sold about 150,000 and is still on the charts, selling very well, especially for a gamecube game.

On a game-system ratio, PSO is actually doing better, and will sell more than FFXI.

Overreacting a bit? FSOD only takes unequipped items. You're right about not using quick select because of only using 1 weapon at a time, but thats about it

What does the fact that that you're afraid to meet new people have to do with anything? Its not like people can attack or steal from you anymore

More and more duped Dark Flow swords are appearing, as well as the other mass-duped items. The last 3 times I went online, there was not once where there was nobody that didn't have a Dark Flow. Sure, the weapon is a piece of crap, but it's finally starting to annoy me, the duplicated weapons that is.

Hmm... it seems I stand corrected, but you are also wrong as well.

According to the Dengenki console chart, as of November 3rd, 2000, PSO Episode I & II has sold a total of 116,449 copies. In the time period from October 28th to November 3rd, only 3683 copies were sold. Sales have slowed down considerably since its debut. Final Fantasy XI broke that total back in July according to older Dengenki numbers. I can't find a current sales total for Final Fantasy XI.

Game-to-system ratios or even sales themselves matter very little when all is said and done though, because Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II in Japan is fucked up beyond repair with dupes, and Final Fantasy XI will continue on since Square deals with exploiters accordingly. PSO E1/2 is relatively clean in the US, but the only question is at this point, for how long? FFXI when it releases here will contain the latest bug fixes, and will start off fresh and will be kept up to date. That is what I'm looking for... a fresh start, and the potential for the game to STAY fresh and clean. I really, really wish PSO had provided such a scenario, because I foresook other systems and games for 8 months JUST to have the cash required to play PSO GameCube, and now I regret it. It's really disheartening, you know.

That's funny. Tell that to my friend Log-A-Log who lost his Caduceus, Nidra mag, and various units. And all he did was leave one lobby to another, and got the "car horn FSOD".

Sorry, it CAN happen. Just because it hasn't happened to you yet doesn't mean the chance doesn't exist. Your entire character is constantly at risk with every crash, possible power outage, anything. It's SUPPOSED to delete unequipped items only, but then, consistency isn't one of PSO's strong points.

The risk shouldn't even exist in the first place. Period.

What does the fact that that you're afraid to meet new people have to do with anything? Its not like people can attack or steal from you anymore

Afraid to meet people? Please. I just don't enjoy going into open games and dealing with players either begging for the Flame Garment and Tsumikiri Sword (two items that AREN'T widely duped... YET), or players who type "ur using normal weapons lol" in an attempt to mock me because I used a Calibur in ultimate mode and don't have an inventory full of every single rare in the game.

As a result of having enough of that nonsense, I haven't been in an open game in the last three weeks, but it wouldn't matter anyways... most of the importers jumped ship.

Long story short, PSO's condition is pathetic. You either play in the JP servers with dupes and limited numbers, or you play in the US servers with people who will take forever to say anything due to lack of a keyboard. Communication's pretty freaking important when it comes to online games, I'm thinking. I couldn't stand the initial three days I was on PSOGC in the import without the keyboard. And either way you go, you deal with silly bugs that either will never be patched because they can't be, or will be patched when Sonic Team gets around to it.

Thinking about Xbox PSO, I really hope M$ is kicking ST's butt right now.
We have just seen how irresponsible and incompetent ST has become.

The only thing that can prevent XPSO from suffering as much as its GC brethren is the will from M$ to offer the best online service it can.

I can't imagine M$ to be delighted to see such a mess happen on its version of PSO. They need so badly a stellar launch of Live! to regain momentum in their fight for market share.

Maybe we won't have XPSO till 2003 for that very reason. Ah well..

Parn come play with me again X.x; I miss you and Dios and I'm back for more too. Its not THAT bad, I've made lv86 without ANY bugs whatsoever, and the majority of people I've met in open games weren't jackasses.. This isn't DC PSO, yet, and Sega even said if the dupe bug gets too bad they'll recall (as in NOT a new ver to BUY), and probably fix a number of other bugs with it. And if the problem is anywhere near as bad as you make it sound (it doesn't seem that way in the US ver, everyone has rares there because they drop so frequently now, I myself found 3 LK14 Combats in ONE game) thats exactly what they're going to do.

Honestly I think all of you are overracting, no offense, of course. Why can't you just ignore the glitches and play this great game for what it's worth? If you get an FSOD, oh well. It's an online line game -- it's gonna happen! Sure you can be cautious, but being paranoid of losing everything but equips will spoil your fun, since instead of concentrating on the game, all you can think about is whether or not you're gonna lose your stuff soon.

People, stop trying to pick out the bugs and play the dang game!! I know ever single one of you DONT hate the game, and that you GCNers still play online. The bugs are minimal compared to the amount of of fun I have on the game. The actual gameplay far outweighs any chance of an FSOD, by far.

Just be optimistic, and play the game for what it's worth. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

Hah... You should know Sonic Team/SEGA deletes every email they get from concerned players. I emailed them and got a response stating: "It is unfortunate that you are dissatisfied with your Phantasy Star Online experience; We urge you to make sure you are using official Nintendo peripherals." What the hell? What does that have to do with the abysmal planning on the part of Sonic Team/Nintendo in not bringing us a Keyboard and not ironing out buggy SOFTWARE?! I think I agree with Parn (Yes hell has frozen over!) in that FFXI will be far more organized. Also, don't forget PSO Xbox... I've seen the quality of Xbox Live and let's just say MS isn't going to screw this one up.

So who's overreacting? I'm still playing the game just as the rest of you are. Just because I've chosen to jump ship to another game that will release five or six months from now doesn't mean I hate the game. God forbid someone state factual commentary that is even remotely negative.

I spent around $400 or so on a system, BBA, keyboard, etc. JUST for the ability to have the best possible PSO experience. I have five seperate copies total of PSO, 2 domestic, 3 import. How many of you are obsessed enough to have purchased that many copies of what is basically the same game? I think I'm entitled to some bitching when the latest edition brings forth two forms of lobby FSOD and duping without even a cheat device, thanks.

I agree Parn, its bad stuff, but they can't fix this stuff before it happens, they can't code the game in advance to be immune to bugs with the aid of some oracle they have locked in a closet. Compared to the MAJORITY of online games I've played this is bug-free. Again this is without seeing how bad the JP servs are.. Blissful ignorance ^_^

dont sit? ok, but the packages barubary mentioned get sent to everyone in the lobby, not caring about if your char is sitting or not.
only way around that is to bitch every one who dares to actually sit down out of the lobby.

and in lobby i usually dont have any unequipped stuff with me (just expensible stuff like trifluids, antiparalisis and a scape doll) - its a habit from version2 to equip when joining a game and unequip, before leaving it. i dont even have to think about that anymore, it became some sort of a reflex.

closed games allready?
well, thats personal preferences i guess. if you dont like people who join open games, then you are better off with locking up yours.
hm... really no offense but is it just me or are all americans talking about their own doings like its the only way it has to be? or is that just a language-issue, hm?

hm... there are times where i'm happy europeans are the (almost) last ones who get a new game.
we probably wont have to pay a HL, and also it will be the latest version of the game (at least i hope for that in both issues... ^_^ [this means the last is just speculation])

about the x-box-version...
since sonic team gave microsoft a final master of the game allready some weeks ago, the only way it gets updated is when microsoft hands it back to ST to do so.
so far i dont think they (MS) even know of any bug in that master-version, so it can be the same as with the cube-version (read: this is speculation as well!).
well, good luck anyway to anyone who puts so much hope in the x-box-version.
(to prevent being called a "fanboy": the reason for my personal console-choice [cube] is that there are no other games on x-box that are interesting to me and because almost all my pso-mates are getting the cubeversion as well - and, i dont think the amount of japanese players is as high as i would like at the x-box-version, but once again, this is speculation)

Yes, but the bug centers around the chair. Each time someone joins, all the chairs are re-created and placed on top of the existing ones.

Everyone standing = no chairs to be re-created = no bug!
