NPCs in the Beta?

Are there any NPCs you can bring with you into the levels in the beta? I'm assuming no....but I'm curious how this works in the actual full version game...

In the offline story mode you obtain an NPC partner cards from the NPC. This will allow you to call on them for particular missions. These NPC partner cards are usually obtained when you meet the NPCs as you progress through the story mode. As far as I know I have not seen any NPC partner cards used in the beta.

I know that's how it works offline...but in the full version ONLINE you can also use NPCs. I was curious how that worked since you can get online from day one without having to "earn" teammates like in the offline version.

I think you get the Partner Card of the NPC of the same race as you after the tutorial?
