Why not try them both? I mean, the game is new, there is time to plan. Plus, you no longer tied into just one job & one class. PSU is meant to be free from all that for you to try. Make use of it~

If you want to focus on close ranger combat, I would actually go with the BEAST character. But, if you only want to choose between these two, than go ahead and choose Human, Newman's really aren't the greatest at close range combat XD

Really, that shouldn't even matter in this game. Newman hunters can be useful in their own way (probably if you want to make a Wartecher later). If you want to be safe, I'd say Human, but don't let stats turn you away from playing what you want. Hell, I'd play a Human Protranser just for the fun of it.
