First off, I should probably introduce myself to you all. Well, to hell with that actually http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif... Just here to talk to you PC PSU users today on what my plans are for PSU and how hyped I am for this game.

Firstly, I know that PSU is just a week away, and we'll all be enjoying the goodness of it very soon, but I figure'd it would be time to prepare for this launch and brief you guys on my current plan for the launch schedule for PC users.

Firstly, sometime this week.. I am going to establish a PSU Ventrilo, mainly for the PSO-World.com community before the PSU launch (probably sometime before Friday we can all settle into the new server) I'm not sure if PSO-World currently has a PSU Ventrilo or a Ventrilo of any sort, but I figure'd it would be a great way to unite us all over VOIP.

I'm aiming at a 50 slot Ventrilo server for starters (I will bump the server cap if needed but for now I think 50 would be fine when I get it) (waiting on my new debit card to arrive before I make the purchase)

But I think it will be a great way to link the community together and strengthen what we have here already.

If there are any other threads out there on the subject etc, please enlighten me. If not, please keep all PSU Vent related stuff here.

Also, as far as moderation goes, if ventrilo goes as planned, I will certainly give all moderation ability to the PSO-World team gladly.

Also, please answer the Poll, as I would actually like to know what VOIP program that everyone does prefer.

I feel that this community will have alot of good times when PSU comes, and this is the perfect time for us to figure out plans on how us PC players are gunna tackle this game http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif.

P.S. I am volunteering myself to fully pay for the fee's of the VOIP service. If a PSO-World staff member would like to take full charge of this project, then I would love to have one send me a PM or email, and I can forward the money to them so they can pay for it.

I'll be looking forward to playing with you all at launch!

Wow that is very generous of you. I'd love to help out and be in the chat a lot but I am extremely shy about my voice and accent which is one of the reasons that I won't buy a XBox360.

Update: I'm actually setting up a TeamSpeak server on my 2nd computer as of now, will probably put up Ventrilo also. That we can decide which program we want to dedicate the VOIP to, will post info when servers are up!

Wow, Blicen. Very generous of you.

If I ever get the chance, I owe ya a drink.
If you ever need anything, please feel free to let me know.

In the meantime, great idea, man. I was kind of hoping that something like this could be organized. Nice to see it happened.

I'm very pleased to say that I have sucessfully put up a temporary Ventrilo server until I am able to order the main one. I have updated the server info in the header so, please stop by / tell your friends! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Glad someone is generous enough to do this. If for some reason i can be some assistance dont be afraid to ask. PSU or VEnt wise. Thx AGAIN MAN u the man

Okay, I'm sorry, TeamSpeak is crap. Please don't waste money on that server, LOL.

I'm not talking about features either, the quality of TS just seems very VERY lacking compared to Ventrilo. I can't even use TS anymore. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Awesome. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif I did this for awhile when Blue Burst came out. I'll be on there for sure once the game comes out. Thanks a bunch, man.

Doesn't Xfire support voice chat? It's free, too. Don't know how the chat works, but I heard you don't need to set up a dedicated server for it. I just don't know if the game supports PSO/PSU.

Whats funny is how PC people could care less about the mic on the 360 version. But they have a topic like this. Go figure.

Because obviously every single person planning on playing the PC version has the exact same mindset and exact same viewpoints on everything. Not to mention, the reason most of us couldn't care less is because of the very fact that we can do this and talk over a program like Ventrilo if we want to (since a lot of 360 owners seem to be under the impression that XBL invented or holds exclusive rights to voice-chat).

Anyway, props to the OP. I'll certainly be stopping by your server after PSU is released if it turns out to be a success. ^_^

So this guy is doing it. So is IStillPlayGames.com (http://forums.istillplaygames.com/thread.php?t=341). They will be doing Teamspeak. I'll probably attend both since my bandwidth can take it. That other site will be nice as well since they will give out free rooms for clans etc...

It's not that we could care less, but the mic on the 360 was more annoying than good. If I make a friend, I can invite them to Ventrilo and we can chat, but for the 360 I'd have to make an enormous ignore list (if that's even possible).

At least on Ventrilo if I don't want to hear certain people I don't have to invite them on or if they're on with someone else I can mute them. But listening to two people rambling on about something like cookies (or lack thereof) while we're trying to fight a boss literally gets stale when they've been in the air too long. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

CHecked out the VEnt. it was just a test server but looks like its going to get pretty Huge. Met a couple of cool people on it. Will be awsome to have this with a few rooms for missions and get together partys. Awsome idea and works great.

I didn't realize you could have that many people on Skype. I haven't really used that one all that much.

I'll have to try out the Vent server later, it's pretty late right now so I need to go to bed soon http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Skype functions differently. It's great for one-on-one "phone" calls, and I believe you can do conference calls, but I can't really see a good way to make it easy for just anyone to join a channel and chat together.

Asides, Ventrillo works great, and it's freeware. You only have to pay to host a server.

yea Vent isn't expenisve to run at all.. I had a 40 man and got 5 bucks from everyone and I was able to keep it up for 2 and a half years with no problem.

No offence, but I'm not voice chatting with randoms. It'll get too chaotic.

It's very understandable that chatting with randoms can get chaotic, but when I get the main server, I will most likely allow you to create your own private channels so that you can chat with just your friends (you'd get full admin rights over this channel / you can password it)

This will help minimize the chaos of what may become a room that will have a billion people talking at once. I'll most likely set it up like PSO in a way.

Will have a couple of lobby channels, and then some party channels / and then private channels for those who would prefer to chat within their own room / have no invaders from unknown guest. I'll post more information about it when I do receive the main server, but until then.. The temp server is only to serve right now as a means of voice chat for PSOW users.

A sad update indeed, server will be down until I can get home to fix it (I'm at work right now) expected server reboot will occur around 9 PM CST. Until then, I hope everything will be okay http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif.

Server is currently opertational again, hop on http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

hmm i was wondering if you were hosting through your own server or if you had someone like typefrag hold a server for you.

I have a 20 slot vent atm (used it for wow, dota, fps games, and ffxi) but i'm planning on upgrading it to a 50 slot (100 slots seems like overkill imo http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif)

Oct 17, 2006, 04:28 PM
As of now I'm currently hosting it on a machine at home until I am able to purchase a Vent server. I plan on making this vent server made specifically for the PSU community, so it would be seperate from other ventrilo servers.

Server is down again, hopefully I will be able to get the main server up soon.
