fact:
-infogrames scheduled the game to 3. quarter / october 2003 in EU (different sources here) with no official reason.
rumor+speculation:
-sega tempts to take over the distribution of their own games again in europe, starting with 1.1.2003
this could mean, GCNpso could be re-scheduled to the early 2003, but theres no prove on that yet.
fact+rumor:
-nintendo wants to start onlinegameing in uk first, then the other eu-countries shall follow (1 or 2 months after). this is set to... may/june, if i remember right.
about importing:
freeloader should be released allready, but i didnt heard anything about it so far. i'd consider let others test it with the game and definitely wait until the fixed japanese version gets released (20.nov 2002 according to a friend over there).
my personal mood:
lean back and drink some tea and try to get my dc-chars to lvl200 while waiting ^_^;
Edit: ah, yes, youre from australia... (adds an 'EU' in the first sentence ^_^)
Edit2: typo -_-;

www.goblindirect.com guesstimate that the US freeloader will be released on 28th November.
Free loader will apparently be non region specific so we should all be able to use it
tea anybody?

hm... *nipps at tea-pot*
considering, freeloader comes out anywhere and actually works with an pal-cube, modem and non-pal-game... why not picking up the 'fixed' japanese version? i mean, you have to go through the pain of ordering a hunters licence at japanese, but there are helping pages for that (ragol.com was really down? ... well, hey.to/pso has a guide too...) and its way cheaper than the us-hunters licence...
i'd really like to know more about that -sega-distributes-their-own-games-again-in-europe-thingy-...

Sucks to be all of you in Europe, stuck with an inferior signal standard. If NTSC were world-wide(or even HD =), then there would be no problems.
That said, it's impossible to change, so just go import an NTSC TV for the games. Games from different regions only work with TVs of the same standard as that region, so even if you have a FreeLoader, you won't be able to play the game with a PAL system.

i cant be arsed with the technicalites of it all, but PAL (Phased Alternate Line ) offers 625 scanned lines , and NTSC (National Television Standards Council) offers 525 scanned lines.
If youve ever wathced a DVD or played a corectly optomised game on a PAL set up and then on an NTSC set up you will see the difference a few extra lines make on the TV screen

SEGA Europe=Evil
Bah, i really want to play PSO now before its gets messed up or everyone gets bored of it (like with V2). Dont know why there taking so long with it, converting to PAl shouldnt really take that long, and nearly all TVS run at 60Hz now anyway, so why the hold up SEGA!

practically all the TV's in my house (along with most of europe) can support an NTSC signal but the problem is catering for those users whos TV's dont by optimising the games code which should only take a few weeks.
But thats not where the problem ends.... oh no....
The problem ends (and in this case stays) with programers (i.e ST) which cant be arsed to do anything about it because they view the whole PAL reigon as mainly less profitable and they therefore use this as a reason to treat us like crap...
now... ahem... i'll get off my soapbox now and make another cup of tea to calm my nerves...

THe only real hold up with PSO and Europe would be translating the instruction book, and making adjustments to the packaging (ie ELSPA ratings etc) although i cant see why it would take so long.

Yeah, I know. It's a daft stereotype, just like how some think we have posh accents.

its like a pal rappy...
no...
not really...
its just that jp- and us-versions are made for the ntsc-tv-standard and europe (and australia and some other countries) uses the pal-tv-standard.
in short:
ntsc: 525 lines, 60 Hz
pal : 625 lines, 50 Hz
ah and i remembered a point, the us-version has over the jp-version:
an us-savegame is compatible with an eu-savegame... for the jp-version you need a special japanese formated mem-card...
... ah, tea is ready.

yeah, at least so its stated in some other post here.
and it makes sense considering eu also uses ascii-code like in the us.
japan uses likely unicode or something like that...
