View Full Version : PS2 Version of PSU and some inquiries

I have a couple of inquiries about PSU but let me explain my planning at first.

.1 Im planing to play PSU online with my PS2.
.2 I have a Thin Model PS2
.3 I have the 2 ethernet cables handled and am getting my switch today for my computer.

Heres a couple questions.

.1 I know where to get the link to get my guardians licence to play but every time i go to that link its inactive like the page hasnt been made. When will that be available?
.2 Do i set up my Game ID for PS2 after i hook it up to my computers internet? if not wheres the link i can set up my Game ID.
.3 I dont have a USB Keyboard for my PS2. Do you think it would be worthwhile to get one? If so what brand should i get where do you think i could get one wire or wireless and how much do they run for?

1. when the game actually gets released.
2. depends on where you have your modem - in your pc or in an extra box.
if the modem is in your pc, you'll have to route your ps2 through the pc (network sharing)
if the modem is in an extra box, simply hook that switch inbetween the modem, the pc and the ps2. the modem should be set up seperately for your ISP data. your ps2 will just have to connect and can use this.
3. just get any USB kb you feel comfortable with. some have funky key-layout so watch out.

i dunno about you but i had to order a special network-setup CD from sony which took a few weeks to get delivered when i tried to hook my slim ps2 up the network the first time. this cd creates a network file and stores all the info a game needs to know to connect.
might want to look into that asap.

I just bought a keyboard at Comp USA for 16 bucks that works great with the PS 2. So far I've used it to set up my internet and played Smackdown Vs Raw 2006 a few times. It's byy Micro Innovations and it's called the "Internet Access Pro". I hit a few places Best Buy, Target, PC Club etc and this seemed to be the cheapest alternative. I'd recomend going to your local CompUSA and seeing if they have any instock.

Hey Calibur, where did you get one for 10 bucks? That's what I expected one to cost but couldn't find one cheaper than 20 bucks. I have a friend that needs a KB also so I'll tell him to pick the one you got up since it's cheaper.

Well yea The Internet Modems on top of the computer so i just gotta get my switch and connect it the way it goes and thats set. When i go to get my switch ill prob snag my keyboard as well. So when i plug in the Ethernet Cable to the back of my slim ps2 and the other end is connected to my computer thats connected to the net whats the next step to getting my game ID?

Yeah, I'll totally be online the first nite. Look for February (Newman), Galvatron(cast) or Juke Kartel(beast). I'll be making a force later named Apple.

you can get a game id from phantasystaruniverse.com but you'll have to wait to get the guardians licence untill the game is released on phantasystaruniverse.com just scroll down and the game id is at the bottom of the page

Logitech makes a pretty good PS2 keyboard controller that's very similar to the gamecube's ascii keyboard controller (keyboard in the center of controller). It was awkward at first but well worth it.

I'm assuming it is.
I heard one of my friends say he had listened to the soundtrack, but I don't know if he had either found the soundfiles online, or if he has the soundtrack himself.
I'm paying my local Gamestop a visit on the way home to make sure.

dont you guys mean router...? and do i have to get that cd or can it figure it out itself

Kjeldor

I might get the soundtrack and also the soundtrack comes with the premium version of PSU i believe. Im getting the guide for it as well good to have a well rounded physical info resource at hand.

I think you have to use the CD.

i "have" to? cause i went to those places and they didnt have the cd

February
Oct 17, 2006, 01:00 PM
When i was trying to buy the adapter I was told it's useless if it doesn't have the CD 'cause most games won't be able to use it with out you using the disc to set up your ISP info.

Kakashi_Xero
Oct 17, 2006, 01:04 PM
well thats a bummer cause i cant find one anywhere could i get one at an ebgames or no?

contact sony about it. at least thats the way things are here in europe.

Kjeldor
Oct 17, 2006, 01:09 PM
The thing ur all talking bout is mostlikely for the old model ps2s cause u gotta buy seperate network adapters. With slim ps2 its built in thats why i got mine slim so i didnt have to deal with that. Feel sorry for u all. Been looking at some vids of PSU OMG there good detail and make me wanna play the game. Teamwork looks kick ass too.

Kakashi_Xero
Oct 17, 2006, 01:11 PM
oooh if i have the slim i dont have to deal with the cd? Kjeldor?

Kjeldor
Oct 17, 2006, 01:16 PM
Mostlikely. See in the old model u gotta buy the seperate network adapter where u need a cd to 95/100 times configure it. In the New one u have the thing built in where its practically plug and play.

Kakashi_Xero
Oct 17, 2006, 01:17 PM
ok kool i hope it does work, if not its gonna set me back awhile

Kjeldor
Oct 17, 2006, 01:20 PM

Kakashi_Xero
Oct 17, 2006, 01:22 PM
i have the slim ps2

Kjeldor
Oct 17, 2006, 01:24 PM
Yeah then i wouldnt worry mostlikely just connect the ehternet cable form your internet source to your ps2 and ur fine.

Kakashi_Xero
Oct 17, 2006, 01:25 PM
or via router?

Kjeldor
Oct 17, 2006, 01:27 PM
Yea same diff whatever puts out your interenet connection for your computer this is how mine is

Wall----Modem----Switch--|---------------------------------PS2

Deus-Irae

you have to have some way to set up the network data on your ps2 and save it to memory card before you can get online.

i do think some games come with this feature though. i dont know which ones have the feature off hand, unfortunately...

Kjeldor
Oct 17, 2006, 01:29 PM
So.. basicly if u have a memory card with the network data on it your good?

Kakashi_Xero
Oct 17, 2006, 01:33 PM
well ive never had my ps2 online b4

Kjeldor
Oct 17, 2006, 01:33 PM
Eh well it still shouldnt be hard to do it with a slim ps2.

Kakashi_Xero
Oct 17, 2006, 01:37 PM
i dont know where to get the cd to get that info on my memory card cause i checked those place the person said b4

Meh well i have a way or 2 to get that info if it hinders me so i think ill be fine.

Oct 17, 2006, 01:39 PM
There is no difference in whether you have a slim or old PS2. You still have to have a network setup file no matter what. Most PS2 online games have a setup built in, PSU likely will too. If not, just buy an old 2nd hand PS2 game that does have the setup.

February
Oct 17, 2006, 01:41 PM
If you need it you can find the discs on ebay for around 10 dollars.

Kakashi_Xero
Oct 17, 2006, 01:42 PM
can you give me an example of a game that has it cause im newer to ps2 than most i dont know which games have which on them

Kjeldor
Oct 17, 2006, 01:43 PM
Alright.. So mostlikely PSU will be able to do the network data thing for me.. thats good. If it cant for some odd reason 2 questions..

#1 Will ANY Ps2 memory card with network data work even if it didnt get networked through my ps2.
#2What old 2nd hand ps2 game has the setup?

Kjeldor
Oct 17, 2006, 01:43 PM

i still need to know which low budget game has the network data so i can get online if PSU doesnt have it

Kjeldor
Oct 17, 2006, 01:57 PM
Meh me too but theres like a 97% chance that PSU will have it.

Itll be like checking Memory card for Network Configuration
Network Configuration not found.
Configure now? Yes/No

Yeah,my gamestop said they had theirs in stock, yesterday too. Thing is, hands off until the game comes out.
It isn't a pre-order gift like I thought.
Instead, its a purchase combo (while supplies still last).
Gamestop always shortchanges me like that, *sigh*

Eh that sucks. Hmm well atleast we get a little something with the game when it comes out. I'll probably pop it in on the ride home to check it out. It better not have nothing but crappy BGMs , I'm hoping for atleast two good ones. -_-
