Some games use the gameboy e-reader to unlock special items, events or whatever. The reader and the cards cost MONEY (duh). If gameshark came out, and made codes to get this stuff without the e-reader, couldent nintendo sue? I dont know how e-reader works. Dose it just unlock the stuff? Or dose it update your game by saving info on a memory card?
Those cards sure can't hold much, it's just a large barcode, and they must hold 153k or less data on them in order to fit in the GameBoy Advance's RAM (it has 153 kilobytes), unless the reader itself has some RAM it uses to store data from the cards and feed it into the GBA as needed, like a GBA game (except that's not really RAM).
I'd say it's most likely already stored on the game, but having the card scanned while connected to the GameCube will unlock it... unless whatever's being added is really small.
I'd imagine they could definitely sue if Interact developed codes to unlock features that normally require the E-Card Reader to unlock/use. I don't know if that would still qualify if some other party made the codes. It's definitely possible though.
