View Full Version : Why didn't Sega give PSU an Auction house?

When I played the DC version and GC version of PSO I always thought man this would be much better if there was actually an auction house in this game instead of me having to yell in the lobby like a mindless idiot or selling stuff to the NPC's for peanuts. Why didn't Sega put one in the game. There are already people all over the place in the beta yelling their butt's off trying to sell a freaking dagger. Honestly it's a little annoying for the people in the lobby and I'm sure the person yelling would much rather pay a small fee like every other MMO and put it in an auction house for 2-3 days.

No...just no. Auction House wouldnt work for PSU.
Plus, everyone has their own personal shops that other users can visit. Much better than Auction House if you ask me.

There is a search function to look for player shops. I don't know if it searches the shops name or the items in it though.

an auction house would break my heart, player shops do the job fine.

Yeah, I think I'll prefer the player shops as well. Even more so, I like that you can search all the shops at once.

Becuase PSO/PSU is not other MMORPGs

Hopefully there will be less standing around and shouting once everyone figures out personal stores.

I don't know if PSU will have the massive number of items a MMO would have to warrant an AH system.

Player run shops are MUCH better for a diablo-esque game like this.

People who shout for items should be reprimanded by GMs. It's just a constant annoyance...

"KRAKEN CLUB IN THE AH! 50,000,000 BUYOUT!"
"WTB"
"WTS"

I've had enough "WTB" and "WTS" spams to last several life times...

Ditto, after 4 years of FFXI, I'd probably steer clear of this game if it had an AH, just a way for Real Money Traders AKA "Scum Who Can't Get Real Jobs" to ruin a game by monopolizing anything and everything that's a fat priced item.

Garnet_Moon

You don't have to be a bot to be a RMT. Occasionally they will speak to you with engrish and try to be friends. They are pretty nice when they are busy talking to you and not stealing a NM you worked to pop for about 5 hours.

Back to topic...
I am quite happy not to see a AH as well. Of all the MMOs I have played I think the only that I have played without an AH is Anarchy online. Which just had shops and the typical 100 channels designated for their own uses.

Really are there enough unique items to warrent an AH in the first place?

This is why I had to quit the game. I think I literally spent 30 hours of my life farming over a period of 2-3 weeks for leaping boots that I got for 700K then less than a week later I decided to be a Dragoon (or rather just level my Dragoon more he was already level 45) so I sold it for 1.2Million gil. It's ridiculous the inflation those gilfarmers started in that game. Farming at higher levels got to be even more insane so I quit the game.

I guess I'll join the fun. Anyways, In the 360 beta you could search for a particular item, for example, I searched for "monomate" and a list of stores came up. I don't remember if it showed the price of what was being sold though.

Aye im glad for the player shop system in psu. It fits a game like it pretty much anyway.

Auction House is a great system for very large MMORPG's that have an overabundance of items. PSU really isn't the type of online RPG that would require an AH system.

Though, it doesn't help the fact that every game that has had an AH had it's economy fall in the toilet because of it, which is why it's a little unappealing to the PSU fanbase.

Yep. The problem with auction houses in MMORPGs is the same problem that free market economies run into IRL when they aren't regulated. Laissez faire just doesn't work, folks.

In my opinion Auction Houses encourage price inflation, RMT, and Greed. It's one of the reasons I disliked moving from PSO to FFXI. I'm perfectly fine with play shops though, and I love how they implimented it in PSU.

Farmers don't ruin economies. Players ruin economies.

Auction House inflation was never caused by farmers selling overpriced items and never will be, this was all the actual player's faults.

Supply and demand of the game's currancy will cause most farmers to even undercut the lowest selling price of an item.

Though it is still debatable as to whether RMT causes price inflation on game economies. There are many reasons as to why it would and why it wouldn't.

May need to write down names of items is the nuisance.. but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

First item I wanted for cheaper than npc was something like Stellaline.. or was it stelaline.. Found a shop with the board though, and not the armor.

Got to see some other items the shop was selling though.
