View Full Version : PS2 discrimination?

Flamingo99

I'll be playing on a PS2, and I want to see if the PC users will care if someone in their group is on a PS2 (Because of the Slowdown and no TeamSpeak/Ventrillo).

Note: Sorry for the typo on the 3rd Poll option.

Um, if we're going for S Rank, I will probably advise against anyone with a slow connection or graphical lag to join us. But as long as you can't, in any way, ruin the score that I get or if at all possible slow my computer down, join up! ;P For regular missions not worrying about the rank, I would definitely party up wit ya, no questions asked.

Atleast in the groups I make anyone including PS2 users will be welcome. The only people I will kick from my groups are the people who act like total assholes.

What's this I hear about slow-down for the PS2 version? I see it on every single PSU forum I go to... everyone flames the crap out of the PS2 version for being slow, and the Xbox 360 for being the Xbox 360.

Is it really that bad? Please no idiocy like on PSUs official site.

Guy 1: *long post saying his predicament* So, should I get it for the PS2?

The "slowdown" on the PS2 version isn't that big a deal. It's not going to ruin your chances for an S-rank or anything. Quit worrying about it.

Oh, and yeah, I'll be on PC, and I couldn't care less what platform my teammates are playing on.

So will it be like the same random hiccups on a PC game when it runs smoothly?

The thing is, unless they state they are on PS2 you won't know, and for all you know they could just be very slow typers on a keyboard.

I'm getting PC, but if anyone seriously cares what platform they play on, then I'm amazed. The slowdown is probably very minor.

ALthough PS2 is the worst console to play on, it's not a bad console to play on.

I'll have the luxury of playing my PS2 in close vicinity to my computing machine any-ol'-way, so using Ventrillo is as simple as using Ventrillo, but I plan to play with a select group of five or so and MAYBE branch out when I get the monies for a USB keyboard (despite their relatively low cost, I have no job, no money, and a girl to impress, though I am coming around to better ways in all these things -- interview on Monday for a job, the job pays well if I get it, and the girl is completely taken with my winning personality and humble good looks, and you'd better believe parentheticals can get this long).

Besides, let's all be friends and stuff, right?

Connection speed has nothing to do with graphical slowdown and frame rate issues, only latency (lag. IE Characters skipping around)

We'll either way it probable wont be much of a problem since quite a bit of people do have USB keyboards these days, and I was going to play it on PS2 myself but not having a USB keyboard and having a PC controller made me decide on PC.

The thing that I think needs to be understood is that the PS2 version I believe is the "base platform". PSU was designed with PS2 quality as the bare minimum, and on other platforms it can only get better. I'm playing on the PS2 version. I know my PC can support PSU, but I'd much rather have PSU (at this time) on a machine I can take with me to multiple broadband-enabled locations. My PC is quite ackward to move around.

Now, once I've got the money, I might get the PC version for when I'm at home. Until then, PS2 all the way.

KazuKun
Oct 21, 2006, 07:44 PM
What I don't get is why everyone's bashing on the PS2? I still think the PS2's going strong, despite the fact that the PS3 is being released soon enough. It's largely due to the fact that the PS3 has a $400/$600 price tag on it (the lower-end model was $400 last time I checked...I think). I'm not saying that the PS3 is a crappy system. It looks to be an amazing system, but I don't want to spend the $400 or $600 that isn't in my pocket. Yeah, yeah, some of you will say "Go get a job!," but some of us can't afford the time to get a job. *cough* Damn you college *cough* Just a thought.

On another note, I'm getting the PS2 version, since I have neither a PC that can run it or a XBox 360. PS2 FTW. (Again...not saying that PCs and XBox 360s suck...I'd like to have a better PC and an Xbox 360, but don't we all wish for things?)

It's sad, really, now that I think about it. I'd rather spend what little time and money I have on video games than work for money and actually earn something.

I agree, and wasn't attempting to bash the PS2 in any way. I agree completely with you. There are too many people (there should be none, or a very small handful, not talking about PSO-World here) that think the PS2 players are going to cripple the PC players, which is highly unfounded information. Sure we get baseline graphics (I've heard it expressed as "all PC settings except for particle effects set to minimum), but we don't have to worry about hardware.

I got bad slowdown on the 360 throughout the beta.. It'll slowdown to just below 30fps or so when you're in 6 person parties, in the middle of the action with everyone using their abilities/effects. I don't see people mention this, but it happened fairly often. I'd imagine the ps2 version would have it just as bad.

Hell, I won't expect much as soon as the games goes live for Ps2 and PC. But after awhile, once everyone has had time to adjust to the games mechanics and how to play their class, if you're doing a horrible job and causing the team to fall because of your actions, then yeah. I mean, there's a line for rudeness and doing it for others. If you've got three solid players who are doing great and one player who's being a dumbass by not knowing what in the world they are doing, getting your group killed consistantly is something totally different from...

"lawlz pulaystashun too. bye-bye."

I really didn't notice any slowdown with the second video except for at 1:35, which wasn't too slow either. So long as no one spams that stupid face chat thing it'll be just as good as your fine PCs probably.

edit- ok watching the first one now

First video is actually just as fast. Also with the fact that it will only be somewhat slow if you play primarily as a FO who catss ice techs. This really isn't hardly a big deal.

I'll be online for PC version but playing PS2 as well (whenever at a friend's house with broadband). I don't care what platform the person is using. Honestly, if people begin to kick players just because of what they're playing one, well, that's plain nonsense. If I'm ever in a party and someone kicks a PS2 player, I'll add that /kicker to my blacklist and create a new party myself. Everyone deserves an equal oppurtunity to enjoy the world of PSU.
