View Full Version : The age range of PSU... and your age

Thrash777

This poll is for YOUR age, and to discuss what age range you think PSU is aimed at... I'm curious to see how old people are here...

Judging sololy from the beta, I'd say it'd be rather hard to stick a demographic on this. I played with alot of people around my own age 20sih (I'll be 20 in less than a month) aswell as getting stuck in parties with high pitched children.. I took part in a couple of parties with 30+ aswell.. Then again when i was just relaxing in Parum one day about 6 children started to harrass me and send me vulgar voices messages.. though once I replied and told them what I did to their mother's they never bothered me again.

Based on the last time this poll was done (I think.. a day ago), about 50% are in the 19-21 range, followed by about 30% in the 22-25 range..

I think most of us start on PSO when we were younger, and got so hooked, they we are returning to PSU at our age now! I thought it was gonna mainly be 16-18, but from us here at PSOW and on the beta, the range seems to lean more towards 19+

It is pretty odd at how most people 'seem' to be 19+ around here.

As you said Thrash it must be the people who played PSO and are simply returning for more 'crack'. Then again I'm sure most of us started the Phantasy Star Series back in the 80's.

Then PSO on the DC... those were the days ^_^

If everyone is as old as they say they are then there shouldn't be a problem in the PSU community dealing with immaturity. *nod nod* It should all be fine and dandy then.

Right?

Bobkitty
Oct 25, 2006, 07:25 PM
especially nice to have held on to those waiting for your copy.. I was unfortunate enough to lose/sell everything over the years.

That depends on what you consider immature tahldon, I mean personally, when I'm putting my bum on you, I'm not trying to be immature or insulting, I'm trying to be friendly and say "hey, what's up?"

I'm sad I missed out on the Phantasy Star games in my younger years. I was a foolish youngin', the first RPG I ever bought (and the one that got me hooked on the genre) was Earthbound. I had rented PS4 once or twice, but never really got into it. Only a few years ago did I try the series out proper... good stuff indeed.

The average is likely somewhat inflated due to some of the youngins acting like they're older. However, I could care less, as long as they're very mature.

Wasn't Earthbound only released in Japan?

The first Mother (called by some 'Earthbound zero') was only released in japan, though a full prototype version of a US translation was completed (and was bought some years ago by a collector). A leak of this prototype version exists on the web today... and it seems the official translation, like many others of its era, is hilariously bad ("We cannot let you pass until you solve the mystery of the zoo").

Mother 2 is known as Earthbound in the US. The release came packaged with a (very good and free) Nintendo Power strategy guide, so I would believe it was a rather hyped/backed release.

There was the ill-fated Earthbound 64... not much else to say about that.

And just recently Mother 3 was released for the GBA. No word of an official US translation that I'm aware of yet, though many are assuming one will get done. If not, many translators are either eager to pounce or in the process of pouncing on getting an unofficial translation done.

Yeah that's a long tangent... what can I say? I've got a passion for the Earthbound series.

It's so awkward for us post-babyboomers. We're "too old for video games." And "video games are for kids."

Of course, the 25-35 demographic is now buying more video games than any other in terms of purchases. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I'm 15, and I used to typically see people about my age on PSO (for the Xbox; never played the beta and I am getting my copy of PSU in a bit), so I am surprised so many are voting 25 and above (or even 17 and above).

You can even recognize a certain "acceptance" of video gaming within the major business companies. The "Video games are for kids"-rumors seem to be dying. As I work for one global player, I can tell you there is something moving. Mostly because such renommated companies like IBM, Toshiba and Sony spend lots of money into the development of high-technology devices used for the entertainment industry. And we, the consumers, will pay them.

So they simply canīt hide from what they invented http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

PSOW members seem to be majority of 25 and up. I think this is a key demographic for sega with this, as well for PSO when it was released. The fans of the original Phantasy Star series. These fans are the ones that will buy the game, then over the course of their playing, spread word of mouth, until the game is a success, much as with PSO.

Of course, this can't be their only, and perhaps not even their main demographic, as they need to snatch up new players, and a younger audience as well, so as they can turn them into fans to spread the word for this and future games as well. So perhaps the younger audience is their primary target, but us older fans are the preliminary ones.

Oh ya, I'm 28.
