Well, what was it for est like 5pm to 10pm? Worst possible time to schedule that.

That really is an insane time to schedule a weekly maintenance - absolute prime time on a Thursday night, EVERY WEEK?

First off, it's got to cost more to have people working after 5pm, and secondly why NOT do it while most of the world is at school or at work?

Weird.

EST time it is 7PM to Midnight (as the topic title says). PST would be 4PM to 9PM... I'd have to agree that it is a ridiculous time to schedule maintenance (right smack in the middle of peak online activity). Let's hope they don't *really* keep the servers offline for 5 hours every Thursday night.

If they wanted to minimize the effect on players, they'd do this in the early morning hours where online activity is about 90% lower. Afterall, people who sleep, work, or go to school would likely not be inconvenienced much if the servers were down at 7 or 8 in the morning. For anyone who works or goes to school during the 'standard hours', this pretty much would exclude them from a full day of PSU 4 times a month.

GMT-6= 4-9
GMT-5= 3-8 <-That's me I guess (0o0)
GMT-4= 2-7

The answer is simple.

SEGA is lazy and wants to schedule it so they dont have to be at work during the middle of the night.

I think you're going backwards there... GMT-5 is EST time, which is two hours ahead of GMT-7 (mountain time), NOT two hours behind. So, the GMT-5 maint. time would be 7 to 12. So:
GMT-8 = 4:00pm - 9:00pm (PST)
GMT-7 = 5:00pm - 10:00pm (MST)
GMT-6 = 6:00pm - 11:00pm
GMT-5 = 7:00pm - 12:00am (EST)
GMT-4 = 8:00pm - 1:00am
GMT-3 = 9:00pm - 2:00am
GMT-2 = 10:00pm - 3:00am

That's the first thing you assume? Give me a break. I hope they do keep up with a weekly maitenance....That means more bug fixes, more items, etc.

I'm guessing this means the servers, even for the NA version, are in Japan. So, for them, this is a convenient time, since they're about 12 horus off from EST. I.e., 7-12pm EST is about 7am - 12am in Japan.

I'd welcome server maintenence all day Thu., every Thu., if it results in a clean online experience. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Good point Pure-chan. If weekly Thursday night maintenance leads to otherwise problem-free gaming, I'm all for it.

Don't misunderstand! I just really want to play all night tonight after being locked out so much last night because of the billing site issues.

Yes, I realize how selfish that sounds. *_*;;

I am really glad they will actually be trying to keep the game problem free but on the other hand I really want to play. Oh well though that is what offline is there for.

Um, well SoA is about 45 minutes from here and the servers hosting PSU are about 2 miles from here, so all this time [business day being 9a-6p in these parts] they've done what exactly? Waited until after business hours to perform the maintenance?

Not sure of their reasoning, but I'm tempted to cast my vote with lazy.

I'm still trying to figure out why they're doing maintenance during prime time. I'm pretty sure the servers are here in America, the bandwidth transfer and response time would increase a bit otherwise... or that might explain why all team members jump around a lot instead of running along smoothly.

I unfortunately wouldn't be surprised if they do maintenance tonight because the game just came out and there are undoubtedly still tons of bugs and stress issues, just like last night. Here's hoping that they let people play during the first week though. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

EDIT: From the main PSU page,
"10/26/06 - Xbox 360 Authentication Servers Down

The Authentication Servers for Xbox 360 are currently down. Users attempting to connect may receive authentication or Maintenance errors.

SEGA is aware of these issues and currently working to resolve them. Please have patience while work is performed to restore the Authentication Servers as quickly as possible."

We will update this page with additional information as needed."

Even though this is for the X-Box 360, this can go either way right now if they feel that the improvement of one server means they should improve all of them. If they feel that what work they have done so far is enough for the night, and want to test how it's going to behave after they put it back up, they might not do the planned maintenance. Or they might see that they should use even more time toward improving the servers and keep it down until midnight. We'll have to wait and see.

At least there are other modes to occupy the time.

So any word so far? Doesn't look like they're taking them down. I think I read on the PSU forums or here (don't have time to look, about to leave work) that they don't do official maintenance in the first month, just the emergency stuff. So I hope at least it's still up when I get home. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif;

Not for the weekly scheduled maintenance, 5 PM to 10 PM GMT -7. EST is GMT -5. Unless there's some other maintenance scheduled today.

That is correct. Which means according to the times on the website, the servers SHOULD be down right now. Either it's not going to happen tonight, or they could also just be running late or trying to resolve the 360 issues first.

It doesn't look like there is a maintence. I was sitting here waiting for it and the servers didn't go down. 4:37 PM PST right now.

Maintenance is at 8PM EST, I just got off a few minutes ago, so the server is currently still running.
