I just found out by testing my account and my brother's. I have a middle name, so I had that added with my first name. After getting error 170, even when trying to start a new account, I decided to go into my acount info.
I had my middle name added alongside my first name. I removed it, and then I tried to buy a PSU subscription and it worked.
So I guess just keep it simple. Just used your first name, and then just use your last name. Hope this helps.
