Armor elements

In one of the old guides, it shows that the shield lines can be changed by element, is it just that some armors are certain element, or what?

I'm more interested in color change than element resists, but...

Like weapons, most armor can be created using elemental photons for a chance to create one resistant to a certain element and give it a different glow color. The colors are the same as the ones for elemental weapons. Red = Fire, Ice = blue, Lightning = Yellow, Ground = Orange, Light = White, Dark = Purple.
