PSU-PC: Party chat?

I want to know if there is a better way to access party chat on the PC than hitting F12 twice. Can you switch the chat mode somehow so the log isn't visible? I asked in the lobbies and someone said "Hit R2" lol

The manual that came with this game is basically useless imo...

This is something I've been struggling with as well. Is there anyway to make it default to team chat when you hit space bar to type?

As far as I know no. I'm using the PS2 controller and I just press select twice but it's still annoying. This game needs a lil work.
