How can I tell why I can't equip this gun?

I recently got my hands on a Betatore(yohmei) handgun and assumed I could equip it on my Hunter, but I can't use it... What I'm wondering is how can I tell when I can or can't equip this gun, aside from the red X in front of it? Do I have to meet certain requirements? I'm pretty new to this obviously so I'm having a hard time figuring it out.

Not too sure, a stab in the dark. What rank is it? Remeber, Hunters can only use Rank C guns.

Between rank and ATA requirements may be the reason why you can't equip something.

if you look at the stats on it, there will be red x's next to the requirements thta you need

There are four things I know of to keep you from equipping an item.
Stat- ATA, ATP, TP, etc- Level up a bit, you can use it.
Rank- Certain classes can only use up to C, other can get B, others can't use 'em at all. Check the chart under your "Personal Status" menu.
Level- You Must Be This Tall basically. Mostly for SUV/Nanoblast.
Race- SUV/Nanoblast again, as well as CAST parts and clothes. Also gender applies to certain clothing items.
