I just get around it by saving my important synths and grinds for my lv1 "disposable lucky" characters. If I need a synth/grind done, I create a lv1 character that has max luck for that day..get the synths/grinds done on them, then delete. This has shown 100% success so far.

It is supposedly random, but in this case, it's a bit unfair for this human character & race. I saw other various races & genders with sparkles before.
