Cited major problems being a poor offline mode and lack of available content online.

Still got a 7 out of 10, mainly cause they liked the general online gameplay (appearently, they used to play PSO before).

Metacritic hasn't placed a full out score since they're waiting for 3 more reviews to come out, but right now it's 70 out of 100 based on this review here.

Just FYI....

Also mentions the messed up voice chat on 360 review, which is good. HERE (http://gamesradar.com/us/xbox360/game/reviews/article.jsp?articleId=2006103116314785586548&sectionId=1000&pageId=200610311631477482911)

That review sucked. Even I could tell more about the game and I don't even have it yet. This doesn't seem like a reliable source.. (am I wrong? correct me)
And that about offline mode being poor; I've heard from most people that the story actually is one of the top 10 they've played.. :S
I don't trust this one.. am I naive?

eh...I admit I hate the voice acting at the very least....and I didn't like Chapter 1.....but honestly, I've not really bothered with offline mode so I'm not sure if this is true or not.

Story mode isn't overly long. You can beat it in a couple days. Plus while you have the option to cap out it is more of a hassle to go thru and obtain skill disk form the npc's. I liked storymode but it wasn't top 10.

As for online. Well ya, of course your going to get a dumbed down review when your online mode has 90% of it's content locked. It's just plain dumb.

I Wish I could play PSU (on my PS2, BURN 360!!!), but I live in The Netherlands and I haven't seen it in the stores yet.

I'm sure that review is incorrect.

Meh, who cares what critics say about the game? If you think it's fun, play it. If people like it, it's quality will be spread by word of mouth anyway. Meh to reviews, too many people let them decide whether or not they buy games http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif.

To be fair, story mode's gameplay wasn't really great. Considering that the game was meant to be played online, and other characters were completely AI controled, they did a great job. But just looking at it as an offline action RPG, it was flawed (stupid NPCs getting stuck and never finishing their combos. Where the hell is my resta?). Otherwise, it was a great experience. Story wise, it was pretty decent, and I even didn't hate the voice acting (very rare for dubbing).

I only played a bit of Story mode, so I can't comment on that too much, other than I really enjoyed the 2-3 hours of it I played.

Online, I'm definitely disappointed in the lack of missions, and the amount of locked content. That's my biggest gripe with the game. But I disagree with the "minor" changes to gameplay remarks. While it does play similarly to PSO (thankfully), the palette system is a BIG change, as is the beast race, as is the ability to change classes, as is the photon arts system, et al. The core gameplay is growing on me the more I play, and that's key.

I've been ignoring review scores for a while now. Read the text, use gamerankings or metacritic, try a demo if you can.
