how to kill De ragan

Hey everyone, I'm a lvl 12 hunter and i'm having some trouble fighting de ragan. it seems that this boss battle is geared towards range weapons as i'm having a real hard time doing any damage at all. So, i thought i'd put this out here and maybe we can discuss some techniques for killing him.

dont try to go for his tail it has high def u wont do that much damage on him, i always go for the neck and do my photon art allt he way and if u run out of PP then u do normal attack intill u get back some PP and watch out when he starts walkin cause that causes damage and when he starts breathing fire to the sides so stay off the sides and stay like under his neck and when he starts to move again back off and when he stops go back to the neck.

try getting and leveling the ice bullet for your hand gun

stay near his sides, its the best place to see whenever he's going to do one of his moves.
all his breath shots are easy to dodge.
when he stands on his hind legs, he's going to cause a quake on the ground, run off a bit to avoid it.whenever his tail starts to glow, he's going to swing it around.again, pull back to avoid it and the knockdown, or have high evasion and just block it.never get to close to his feet, as you can get hit multiple times before you even get a chance to move again.
another helpful hint, try going at him at a higher lvl.as a force i could take him at lvl 12, but a hunter might need a little more help.

Personally I like standing directly infront of him, the stomp shockwave doesn't hit there, the tail doesn't hit there, so all you have to avoid is the fire and dash attacks. Plus the head, neck, and body are the weakest places, so its a good attacking spot as well

If you're having trouble doing damage, you're either too low level, your weapons are too weak, or you're using the wrong weapons. I think it's the last, given that you probably didn't get to 12 with absolutely terrible weapons - try using ones with high ATP (swords), and not lower ATP with larger combos (twin daggers). I will go out on a limb and say that you might want to try using a spear - it has a much better reach, which can be helpful in trying to go for head and neck hits.

Then again, your real problem is that you're level 12 and trying to (apparently) solo De Ragan. Getting another person or two to help is far more likely to get you an S-Rank.

I've never tried to solo him actually. but whenever I'm in a group i tend to get my ass kicked fast. i think I'm going to spend some time watching his maneuvers and then i can adjust my movements accordingly. thanks for all you suggestions.

Yeah, I soloed him about 6 times already, an dI think this guy is the easiest boss ever. I did my fist solo at level 13 but it took me about 20 minutes of figthing so I don't think it's worth the time.

Basically, you want to hit and run over and over. This takes time, but you save lotsa healing items this way. ALL WAYS AIM FOR THE NECK AND HEAD! DON'T ATTACK HIS HINEY!

Start the battle buy going up to De Ragan's head area and to a pa or two and pull back. If he lowers his head, he is going to do a tackle so move out of the way, but as soon as he stops, run up and pummel his head and neck with pa. He will likely turn his head towards you to shoot fire, so go under or around his neck to get on the other side and do some more pa's. Don't try to get an extra hit cause it's really really not worth it since his fire can pretty much kill you in 3 hits and leave you burning at the same time. Next he might repeat the same thing or raise his forearms. Back off, let him stomp, pummel his head and neck with pa.

He will start flying sooner or later and his first attack is a massive fireball. Now this is tricky as it homes in on you if you are soloing him. I had lots of trouble figuring this out but this is how you do it. Start moving in one direction as the fireball flys towards you. You can see the fireball curving towards you. When it reaches you about half or 3/5 of the way, run towards the opposite direction. If you did it right, it will barely miss you. But mind you, i get hit half the time cause of the splash area.

Run around in circles avoiding his jet streams of fire and his gliding tackles. Just watch the radar. He will come down sooner or later so repeat the above process. You can tell he is weakening when he lowers his head bit by bit and he will cry out in pain too.

Notice this tactic requires you to have multiple weapons with decent reach. My hunter is a spear main so I didn't have such a hard time. Carry about 3 weapons so you can constantly pa. This is how you do it, but really, it's not worth the time. GET A PARTY!

did this solo a few times now..it's pretty easy to not get hit at all the entire fight, just don't zerg it. the only lethal move it has is its flame breath which will kill you most likely unless you spam potions the moment it hits you or you move right as it hits you.. though it's blatantly obvious when he's readying that move, so just be on the watch. i killed him pretty fast with knuckles at hunter19, maybe try those.. :3

Definately go for the head shot. I had my CAST dump on 'em w/ a Plasma-charged Maser cannon and iced it in under 3 minutes.

use a spear of some sort kicks the de ragons ass really good if you have lvl 11+ pa

Lol. It took me awhile to notice this. but check it out. There are little rock protrusions on the battlefield. When he starts to flap and take off, run in the opposite direction. When he fires a fireball, stand behind one.

If your going to make a guide make it class specific since each class is way diffrent.

As a hunter I would be in the front and spam my spear PA

But I play as a force for my main and the best thing I seem to have found to do is stay on his side and use Diga for about 250 dmg per hit as a lvl 14 force (me and a lvl 13 hunter took him out) we both died once tho from the fire, problem with the force is casting time is so slow if he starts his fire as your starting a spell chances are you wont make it out of range in time, also it was a pain to heal my hunter friend http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

If your not doing 95% of the damage like I was you can take a much safer role and use barta far away and never get hit, it cast faster than Diga and you will be out of range of all the attacks except the fire wich is very easy to see comming and dodge at that distance, but your damge will be much lower than the diga spam.

I just got rabarta today and have not even used it yet, it may do more damage than diga since its his weakness but probably not or just slightly more and it wont be worth the PP cost of th Ra spell vs Diga.

Unfortunatly there is no single target high dmg spell for ice :/
