Photon: Non-elemental photons for melee weaponry
El-Photon: Photons for caster weaponry
Im-Photon: Photons for ranged weaponry

You can use them for any weapon though but they increase/decrease the synth chaces if you use them for the right/wrong weapon. I accidetly used el photons when making some 2 star knives and the percentage went down to 37% http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif((
