So let me first off say that I never did see the Ali g show or whatever it is called. So I know no history of this Borat character until this movie.

Now I went to see this out of randomness with some friends because we had heard it was the next hottest cinematic adventure in terms of comedy. It got great reviews all across the board from countless high up critics and tons of praise in all the top magazines. Now, call me crazy, but although I did chuckle at a few parts in the movie (Like interviewing the feminists) and a few other parts, the addition of the really rampant nude fight scene (More like way too close for comfort), made the movie to me appear gross and rubbed me entirely the wrong way.

I understand it is all a joke, and he just lives to squeeze a laugh out so none of this was meant to hurt anyone...but some of the humor seemed so destructive, rather than funny. It's funny watching him degrade people inadvertantly because of the things he makes certain people agree with him about, but in a way it comes of as malicious to me. I read about the news co-worker that had him put on the show (This during the scene where he went ape shit on live tellivision and interrupted a live weather report, yes, it really did happen). Did you know that she lost her job shortly after because they deemed her unreliable? It went on up to the point where she was never asked on her opinion of who to bring on as a guest. Ever. This is her quote...

"Because of him, my boss lost faith in my abilities and second-guessed everything I did thereafter.... I spiraled into depression, and before I could recover, I was released from my contract early. It took me three months to find another job, and now I'm thousands of dollars in debt and struggling to keep my house out of foreclosure.... How upsetting that a man who leaves so much harm in his path is lauded as a comedic genius."

I don't mind so much the racial and outrageous ranchy humour that he uses, but it seems he disregarded possible long term affects. Yes some of it is funny. There is no doubt. The only problem is that it could have done without the abnormally gross fight scene, and there is a lot in the movie where I'm sympathizing with his victims.
