View Full Version : If I hear one more whine about locked content....

I'm going to freak out and stab someone. Seriously.

I am sure I am not the only "dev in training" on these boards, and I'm more than certain a few game devs for whatever game DOES lurk these boards, and could tell you the same thing I'm saying right now.

This is not a new concept, people. Just because you "paid for the game," doesn't mean that you immediately can access every single thing on the disc. This is typical warfare in MMOG, MMORPG's, ORPG, and any other type of -rpg you can think of.

Many, MANY of these games SHIP this way. Yes, even WoW (god forbid I bring that game up, but that's a different argument for a different thread) has PLENTY of content on the initial disks that you purchased, that has weapons, armor, npc's, skins, mounts, I could go on forever. You just can't access them. This is WHY it takes several years to develop these games.

This is WHY it's possible to get a fresh slew up updates and content in typically timely fashion (1-3 months.) What, you think you can just pull a high rez frame out of your butt, slap a skin on it and call it a day in less than an hour? I think not. Months, yes, MONTHS of work go into creating the assets used in these games.

So quit your whining about Sega "blocking you from your purchase." There were TONS of items on the original PSO disk that never were "supposed" to see the light of day, purely for balance reasons. And I'm sure the same will happen with PSU.

Chill. Relax. Chillax. Sega isn't trying to pull a "fast one" on you. Don't believe me, you can go look for yourself. In fact, I'll even cite an example of this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSLzO4fNqXQ

Most of this never even made it into the live SWG game, at any point in time. It's all sitting right there, on the same disc that everyone (who played), payed for.

Release? Yes. I couldn't agree more. But to coin the industry phrase:

"It will be released when it's ready."

Tell that to Sony =D

Just because it's been used before doesn't mean it's a good idea. Like Genocide.

That said, everyone should take a nice good ol fashioned 'Shut Up' pill. Because neither side is going to shut up unless the other one does. Or you can be neutral, like Monomate, The GREAT Switzerland, and I!

http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif Kudos to those who can remember that.

Agreed. I mean seriously i mean i can't think of an MMO to this day that had jack to little content and then in the future came out with crap loads of it. I could start a list but I'll save that for someone else xD.

when it comes to content on disk that you don't have access to, the only reference you have to make is "Hot Coffee". It was there and fully programmed on the game disk but was not meant for release.

Ya know for thoes who complain: You can always cancel your account and not get your money back.

Correct. We have all the "assets" for the game, on the disc. But do people ever stop to think that the servers need to be recoded to read that data? Hmm? Or how about when they have to force client side changes? Which is even MORE difficult with the Ps2 being a large part of the entire equation?

*slams head against desk*

I just wish a few more people would use some of their common sense every now and again. Rome wasn't built in a day, let alone any of it's content put in. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

SEGA was dumb in doing this though.... you have to admit. I mean, we are paying to play a game that isn't is fully given to us. This has to be one of the dumbest things that has ever been thought of.

eh.... just kidding. Wanted to tick you off (hopefully i did http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif).

People should stop whining about people whining, I think. They shipped a game with practically no content available. You can compare that to WoW, or any other MMO, since thats what everyone seems to like comparing this to, and they had at least enough content to level to max without getting dull. There were so many different quests on release for WoW, that I never finished them. Tons of instances to do, tons of quests, tons and tons of weapons and gear, compared to this game which had hardly anything. People have a right to complain when they're paying $10 a month + the price they payed to buy the game.

I personally am fine with the amount of content thats out right now, but apparently LOTS of people are not, and that means that there is a problem. And Sega needs to fix it, and stop being slackers.

All I wont to know why all the rehashing of monsters? Just out of curiosity. Would the development be to time consuming or something?
