So.... where else are people doing this "alleged" roleplay? It seems every now and again, I actually run into a few people here and there who do *pats RyukiZero on the head*, but very rarely.

If you want to roleplay I suggest looking at other sorts of games that encourage that sort of thing rather then trying to do so in a game where it's going to mediocure at best and your "bubble" keeps being popped by people screaming "IT'S OVER NINE TTHHOOUUUSSSAANNNDDDDD!!!!!!"

I do all the time, which confuses the crap out of people. Yeah, RP in an RPG?! WOW! I know about 2 people who RP, though, and they're pretty fun. I especially like that people seem to totally disregard player gender.

I just think it's fun to act like my character within the context of the game world. It's pretty frequent in other -rpg's (pick your poison), and PSU is no exception. Especially with a more standardizard game world outside of doing Ultimate Level Runs on Dark Falz. -_-

I RP my characters all the time. Ender is a CAST ranger who's proud of his oversized head even though he's often mocked for it, and adores new weapons. He likes to blow up things. Simple. Zeo is a CAST technician, who maintains Ender, as well as just generally a crazy cool sort of dude, and a Hunter. Momoko is a dark-skinned lesbian Force with a huge rack, and is personally my favorite to RP because it's hilarious.

PS has ripe materials available to it for the observant RPer. I can see RPing being very viable in this game, so long as your immediate company (for example those in your party) are also on board with it.

Of course, with all the PA spamming, porn posing, leet trash talking randoms I've seen....I highly doubt RPing will ever become mainstream here. Still, small scale RPing is where it's at. ^_^

I hang around with a group of people who roleplay. Generally it is luck when I meet others in game who roleplay... I actually met a few last night on universe 1. There are two roleplaying communities (that I know of anyways) for PSU.

Well, porn posing can really be part of RP, as can those other things. Ender intentionally burns through PA power like mad, because as a Ranger, that's pretty much how he understands fighting: Consuming PP as fast as possible. He can speak 1337. Zeo can also speak 1337, and also uses memes at times. He's just that kinda guy. Momo is 1337-illiterate, and doesn't really understand memes, but will often strike suggestive poses, just because.

(Still working out the details, but it's coming along good.)

Caseal Type-01 (Called Zero One by 'some' people, CaT01 by others, and Cato by some) is a ancient Caseal Unit found in the Parum relics during one of the excavations there. By all standards, she is completely inferior to current cast/caseals, mostly being devoid of a built in personality generator based on outside parameters and stimuli.

However, she has much potential with her hoooooooooge empty hard drive, to learn and adapt to new scenarios. Primarily designed as a maintenance caseal, she's quickly learning how to fight, preferring ranger-style combat, because it seems very logical and mathematical to her, and precise. On a mental capacity level, she is highly intelligent, but on an emotional/personality level, she is the equivalent of a human 3-4 year old child. She takes great fascination in shiny things, particularly stars, which she just learned about recently. ^.^

I've had various responses from 'Oh, hi! I just finished cleaning up, so you dropped in on my home at its best...' with Momoko, or 'TITS OR GTFO!' with Zeo. Ender has a shop, so it's moot.

RP is never going to work well here simply because as a public game anyway can join, there's no restrictions to not allow those who won't roleplay in, so once people who aren't roleplay are in the mix it causes confusion, this confusion makes people who roleplay not want to, which spreads to more people not roleplaying.

You would have better luck trying to bail water out of a boat made from wire mesh in the middle of the ocean.

I beg to differ, especially since I know what games "I" have been playing, and roleplaying in. Been roleplaying for over a decade now, and roleplaying in MMO's since the original PSO (as it was my first orpg, or whatever), and been on a roll ever since. Been in entire roleplay guilds, and have run roleplay guilds.

People say "it", because they don't want to deal with it. If you don't want to deal with it, that's fine. But don't go trying to push your ideals off onto everyone else. Some people like to roleplay, some don't. Some people like vanilla ice cream, some people like chocolate ice cream. I happen to like both.

I roleplay whether or not the people around me are participating, which either results in humor or utter confusion. Since I don't really give a damn about people who I don't know that don't want to participate though, it's not a problem. Ruby-chan up there needs to learn that you can still enjoy doing something even if not everyone agrees with it. It's actually fun to be sort of an 'exclusive' club.

My character, however, got into the wrong pod, and ended up in a Cryostatis pod. Eons later, he wakes up in SPD Headquarters with no remembrance of his past. Later, he's sent to Clyez Colony to patrol. He comes in contact with two of the Casts from the family in which he was originally guarding. Regardless of how many eons have passed, he is told that he is 20 years of age, with the same name.

There are plenty of PSU roleplaying communities cropping up. For the most part, a lot of the random OOCness that interferes with RP can be avoided by going to a low-population server. As it stands, a couple of groups are using Universe 17 as a roleplaying server.

Hmm, I don't intentionally roleplay but...my main toon is going to be male and i'm female IRL, does that count? XD

For some reason, I can't play my characters without thinking up of some minor cheesy background for them.

Anyways, my female beast hunter is a shop keeper, with a special interest in Pannons. My male human force always blackmails her for money (since her shop really funds him). I like to think they met on a Guardian foreign exchange student program with Neudaiz.

I actually played on a World of Warcraft roleplaying server. It could be quite fun, once you manage to sort through the various "omg lets cyberrrrr!111" wierdos.

Hmm...PSU roleplaying...we'll have to wait and see....

Pentence plays the PC/PS2 version. We roleplay together along with some other friends we found along the way. Us RPers stick together. Also we don't RP in crowded universes (aka universe 1).

I actually have fallen into a small RP group myself (anyone hear of/see Naes Siwel, Kupi, Shin Tatsumoto, BU-33S, Frei or Mercy?). It's good fun and a nice change of pace from constant grinding. They are floating around on Uni 17 too, which seems to be fast becoming the "RP" server of choice.

For the record, Micah's IC motivations is she is on the surface a tough mercenary and a loner, but has a deeper side that comes out in private, or when working on ehr true love, forging weaponry.

Not at all. We actually have no criteria whatsoever-- just as long as you want to RP, it's cool!

Usually we'll cater missions to the levels of those who want to be involved, but it never comes up all that often. At level 15, you're on par with or above many of us.

I heard about this, but I have yet to see anything. I'll keep an eye on the forums for any official news from PSOW.

Roleplaying happens everyday on PSU .. just some in smaller measures than others.. and some just play as themselves interacting with "this world". I myself, am in the middle, all the time. Im roleplaying but Im typicaly playing myself and not some obscure personality... I chose SoiFong because the two versions (child and adult) reflect my own personality ... The child is my happy-go-lucky akward but devoted side, and the adult reflects when something has flipped my switch and i go into bitter-b!tch mode... It ws very easy for me to assimulate the role.

Anyway my advice to roleplayers is to continue to plug it here and there to get a good group together and make it clear when you are roleplaying and when your are not. There are people who enjoy it.

Exactly. It would be nice to get some info. Is it just an "official" PSOW RP Universe? An ongoing storyline?

I'm a bit hesitant to join any PSU RP communities since I might not be able to make time for them if PSOW does something big...

Hmm, now that I sit back and really put some heavy thought into it..... PSU is probably one of the BEST places to roleplay. I'm working on a little "Story Arc" right now that will help, being pretty similar to the quests in PSO. Watch this space. ^.^

And yes, I'm thinking about even quest rewards for completing it!

I'll be hanging around on Moatoob for the next couple of months, on Universes 13 and 17, and I'd be happy to buy you a drink at Gawik's, provided you're not CAST. ;p

Well, you know where to find me. If you have my card, call me. If you don't, I'm normally in Neudaiz (Hangout Plaza) or Moatoob (Pub). Parum, I'd be at Field Base, but not as much anymore (since no one seems to go there). If I AM in Parum, it would be at the Juice Bar =)

Uni 02, Uni 10, Uni 15, and Uni 17. I don't like Uni 01 much, even if there's a ton of people.

When I roleplay I usally write everything out of RP in parenthesis. So when people come into my server I write something like ((Roleplaying )) and then I go for it http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif. So when I write something to the person behind the character its parenthesis all the way http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif.
And the cut in chat is perfect for RP http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif.

I just do it if I know there's other RPers in the group, or nearby. I tell them if I'm going OoC though.

It would be nice to actually be able to role play in this game. Say were pirates or something, and some other people are hunters. For kicks me and a few friends had a meeting the other day at the pub in maotob to discuss "business practices" aka monopolizing certain areas of interest. Its entertaining. Then having someone come in and all of us scatter to the mission area.

But theres just to many people already into the grinding set of mind to be able to roleplay.
