The "Atari" symbol of PSU? A face in the clouds...

Only DC v.1 & v.2 vets will remember the Atari Symbol of Pioneer 2. If you went back to a certain point by the shops, and strained the camera upwards, you could see a small hidden Atari sign at the top of one of the towers. I remeber it became a bit legendary online, and a lot of people had Atari symbol chats.

Now, I've noticed something else along the same lines with PSU. This might be old news, but if you head to the G-Flyer base and turn to look out at the Temple of Air - scan the cloud line just above the buildings roof top and pan the camera horizontally. The sky of Neudaiz is a rotating circular mesh with textures repeated on both halfs. One of these cloud textures is of a woman's face in profile, looking to the right.

Any idea who this woman is supposed to represent? Maybe one of the artists girlfrinds, or a maybe self-portrait? It's definately a human girl, so it's not Mieri or Karen... and it looks to me like she has a headband on. Not sure...

Just thought I'd post and seen if anyone else noticed this.

Theres actually 4 faces in the clouds, iono what it represents, I dont have my computer and i've had to play on a ps2 so I cant show it.

1. Looks like a monkey
2. Looks like the princess
3. Random face
4. Random face

If someone could post some screenshots i could try and draw them out.

Its called an easter egg. Sega produced games are always full of them. Sonic,Shenmue,Skies of Arcadia, name a game from them and theres some type of easter egg to another related game from that company.

If I had my damn comp or some more screenshots Id show you the 5 faces lol. Its not like its random clouds, its actually really distinct.

Yeah i would have said its just a cloud if there wasnt 4 other faces including the one that guy found. Also I noticed that the faces all are looking in the same direction as the ones on the cover. That is ether an extreme case of coincidence, or they look like that for a reason. If this thread isnt dead by the time I get my comp back, ill take some screenshots and draw out the faces. It probably is meant to see a shape in, such is the nature of people and clouds. However, just like real clouds, I got better things to do than stare at the sky. Im always into finding easter eggs. My first ever was when I drove my minion off the roof in twisted metal 1 for the ps1 and saw the cheat codes in the city lights, yeah I got pretty excited since I was only like 13 and it was one of those WTF moments.

Also... I always wanted to say this but it seemed weird.
Back on PSO The Spaceship Stage, those item boxes were shaped in an X and green, somewhat to the Xbox Logo... and seeing its a Green X...Box... and was on other systems than the XBOX... I found it pretty weird and made me wonder while playing on Gamecube long ago "Uh... does the Xbox version have Gamecube boxes? o.O"

Perhaps it's my resolution, but the face actually distorts a bit as it travels from the left to right over the horizion. Perhaps that's intentional to simulate clouds changing shape over time... and the "Monkey"ish face shown in the picutre I believe is from the right side of the view from the flyer base. It looks (to me) more compact and human when on the viewed from the left.

I haven't seen the other faces, but i might have to keep an eye out for them next time I'm on Neudaiz. It's not like this is the first time this has happened. IIRC, in PSO v.1 or v.2 for the Dreamcast there were two different versions of Falz's screaming face floor. Durring Halloween, as part of the decorations the floor texture would be swapped out to one which looked nearly identical, but who's faces were representations of some of the development staff.

Reguardless, the fact remains that (weither intentional or not) there is a face in the clouds. If it is not an easter-egg or a representation of anyone fictional or otherwise - then the Neudaiz face paralles the PSO Atari symbol even more. I'm sure Sega wasn't intentionally trying to advertise a competing game corperation in PSO. However, the fact remains that PSO DID contain the Atari Logo, even if just as a design flub.

The face on Neudaiz very well might be an unconcious design flub - but that doesn't change the fact that it's there. IMO, it looks far too deliberate - as you can even see the lower earlobe protruding through the dark areas which represent her hair. But until someone can prove otherwise it will just remain a matter of curiosity.
