View Full Version : Why didn't SEGA include...

We've all seen the topics on these forums about how so many folks are unhappy with SEGA deciding to slowly provide access to more and more content already available on the disk. This whole can of worms has been debated to death in the other threads, however here's a new take on things:

Why is EXTRA mode missing so many features that would be so easy to include, indeed have been included in STORY mode?

It would have been nice to have just a few extra missions where we could at least:

- Ride the AMF tank
- Ride the pink chocobo creature
- Ride the jetski down the river
- Fight the missing monsters i.e bugs
The mini games are quite fun, but it's a real pain playing through Story mode just to get ONE chance to play each of them, maybe a mission would help to practice up?

Some creatures encountered during Story mode are AWOL in EXTRA mode such as the bugs on Moatoob. Do you think this is just laziness on SEGA's part, or is this deliberate to help get us bored with being offline all the sooner?

You... you get to ride a tank, chocobo and jet ski in story mode?

...

... Urge to not play Network Mode as much... rising...

Trust me it isn't as fun as it sounds. :l A lot of other stuff missing but thats what gets you to play network mode.

Bugs are online already, in the missions after the dragon. As for the vehicles, no idea why they aren't online yet, they were promised a while ago

These events are short and not all that entertaining. although they MIGHT have been if you could do them more.

Chances are, they'll show up sooner or later. Just give them time.

I don't think SEGA would waste the time to program those mini-games if it was just for one short ride in story mode.

I'll bet my left elbow that they'll be in Network mode. Now, how long it takes SEGA to release it, that's another story...

That was kind of what my original point was - you're never given adequate chance to practice the bonus stages, instead your just dumped straight into trials of which the urge is to just get to the end as quickly as possible and not really enjoy them due to being alienated by the different gameplay http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

I'm fairly sure we'll see them turn up online in some form or another somewhere along the line (maybe they could be competitive?) but I can't see why we shouldn't be able to just repeat and practice the few minigames we've got in story mode in EXTRA mode at least.

I dont remember them ever promising vehicles online, and I doubt they will make it.

I also don't think vehicles will make an appearance online. I just don't see how they would add anything.
Either:
A) People will abuse them to make meseta and Mission Points because they're all insanely easy, or
B) No one will do anything with them because they're boring.

Just an opinion. (I feel the need to clarify this, now, and maybe should add it to my sig)

Maybe they'll be added as 'just for fun' competitive games, similar to how the soccer lobby in PSO worked but a bit more fun.

Tanks and what-not will be in the network mode, they'll just take some time to unlock. Flouders and Lunga's I can understand being a multi-player missions - but the tank, perhaps not. It depends... they might give us a mission in which all six players have tanks, but have to work together across sevral single-player areas to achieve an objective.

Chances are though, most of these vehicles will just be there for quick Point A to Point B missions, or online storyline missions. Rewards will most likely be small, or reflect the difficulty level.

I do wish the vehicles were more robust though, beacause they do feel like cheap throw-ins. Nothing like the Scorpion Tank, but at least more well built. One of Phantasy Star's distinquishing points is it's use of vehicles (which was sadly left behind in PSO), so a little more care and attention to detail would have been nice. However, I understand that if the vehicles were more robust, they might easily outstrip the design of the game and end up being too overpowered. Guess we'll just have to see if they improve in the future.

The Flouders are quite cool tho... and I can easily see gathering at their mission start points to have jet-ski races reminicent of the old Lobby Chair races. Perhaps Sonic Team will even make an event out of it.

I kinda agree with Sinue... about being a multiplayer game.

Lungas reminded me way too much of Golden Axe. Neither the Lunga, or the Floader was very fun in story mode though. The controls just felt way too clunky.

10 bux says there'll be a quest like Rappies holiday where we'll be racing them and such

I can see a tank battle lobby being fun and easy to impliment.... doubt it will happen tho.

When there is nothing to do, and you dont want to grind and your waiting on a synth or somthing I wish we had somthing like the old game lobbies to kill time in, or a casino or somthing http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

A casino would have been nice. I was actually really dissapointed in the bar on Moatoob, as I was hoping they'd do something more with it. A fake drink menu, card minigames, or even a jukebox would be nice. It's cool that it's there as a meeting place, but really it serves no purpose. Hopefully they'll work on that in expansions... or perhaps the "Club" on the Guardian's Colony will be a bit more robust.

Meh... I guess it's still a nice place to go and sit while you AFK and drinking irl. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif I can imagine voice chat in there would be hilarious with all the slured speach and drunken jackasses.

I here by nonimante uni 15 moatoob bar the offical hang out of drunken gamers !!! lol

let me pick up some jager on my way home and I already have a 24 pack of beer in the fridge.

I would really love some card games or somthing too, maybe even let you play for some meseta against other players.

One of the best games I ever played was the dice game in suikoden http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif I got ritch off that game and bought all my guys the best stuff.

There IS a dice roll fuction in the game, so if we were creative enough we can make somthing of it. If anybody has some easy to follow and fun dice games maybe we can adapt it and make an unoffical gambling area somwhere. It would be nice to have it somwhere in the G. Colony maybe in the clothing shop http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif that way I can pass time waiting on synths and my room is just down the hall.

Hell I just realized if you had it in the cloth shop, and sombody is losing bad enough they can even bet there cloths, or play strip poker!! the room is there to take off and change cloths^^

That sound like a fun thing to do with your in-game friends , Vicious , I doubt it'l get past the "ya sure we all kno u dupez lol" phaze if a random person tryed to start a casino thing in crowded areas like most online games.

What I wish PSU had was a working night and day cycle, I heard orginaly PSO was to have one but it never came to fruitation.

The boat racing would be easy to implment lol, maybe just a lil bit of coding but all of what they need its there. I think that shit would be fun racing against friends. Maybe being able to place bets on races, stuff like that.

I need to hurry up and finish my degree and get started on my own game hahaha.

and someone said a casino, hell yeah they should at least have some type of card or slot game you can play when your bored of everything. Make the universe feel more like a universe.

I don't know, but, in Extra Mode, has anyone else noticed that when you go to the Guardian HQ counters and talk to the nice robots, they say something like

"There are no missions available for you here, at least not right now".

Seems like an obvious hint that something might be downloadable for offline play later on, too. But hey, it's Sega, so probably not.

I take that as meaning 'not right now because you're offline, come back when you're online and you'll find missions here'.
