Sorry if I'm talking about something that has already been talked about, or is actually supposed to happen, but...

I got PSU today, and have been playing it for the past hour or so, and I have noticed something strange...

In the main Plaza area (or whatever it's called http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif) there are lots of people walking around, but most of them turn see-thru when I walk near them, and then vanish completely when I go up close to them.

Is this supposed to happen, or is it a bug or something? :S

I'm playing on the PS2 version btw.

Yeah its suppose to happen. Its suppose to simulate a crowd of people. You can try to run up to them and they will vanish. Only you will see that alot, and players even look like them from a distance, but they are usually a different color.

It's supposed to happen if you are offline.

Those people are just basically something to make the city not look so..small and empty.

Thats just how they made it lol. They should have done it the opposite way imo. shenmue style.

It's supposed to happen, as far as I know. The people walking in a distance are supposed to simulate a large working city, but when you get close to them they fade rather quickly. It seems sloppy, but I've been told on the official forums that this isn't a bug.

Oooh, ok thanks! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

No offence to Sega or anything, but I would have expected better from them than that http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Strikes me as them being kinda lazy!

yeah but if the people where there all the time it would soon make your ps2 blow up from having to many things to load etc

I think it looks stupid as hell, and I have no idea it made it into the final build. Just shows sonic teams overall laziness with this game.

I don't have a ps2, I have a PC... with a mouse. It's goddamn 2006, if you are going to charge $50 for a game then $10 a month, you damn well better make sure it's comparable to all the other games.

3 choices of resolution?
no mouse support?
no widescreen?
lame chat interface?

Oh well, I am still gonna be playing this game for a while... but it could have been my favorite game ever.

PC users share with PS2.

Hmm, I would have thought that the PS2 could at least manage to display a few NPCs and not blow up... http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Surely it's powerful enough to do that? :s

I mean... games like GTA must take much more processing power than PSU, it's not like much is happening in the Plaza of PSU anyway...?

I found it rather distracting at first, then I realised how annoying it would be to have to navigate through dozens of people as you made your way around, and trying to pick out the NPCs who actually have something to say to you (you notice they are the only ones who remain visible as you approach).

Oooh that's a good point! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I think I'd prefer it if the vanishing people didn't exist at all, I don't mind the place looking empty http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

If you're on PC you can disable these people by setting the detail slider to the far left - although this will also reduce the overall detail of the whole game in the process...

Just a pity SEGA didn't give use more flexability with the tweaking options http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

Face it people. If they weren't there everyone would complain how empty it is. If they didn't vanish everyone would complain about to many people on screen to navigate through. People just moan an whine whenever they can, it's a fact of life.

You can't please 100% of the people 100% of the time.

They annoy me online. I set my details to lowest to get rid of them.

Yes it looks stpud, but that's Sega for you. I'd rather have it empty.

I like it better than PSO's three whole people on offline. Makes it look like the ship was empty.

I would have preferred it being empty. The vanishing effect kinda bothers me. I like seeing who's important, along with other players online, and noone else.
