In missions online it says you can have up to 6 player parties but what if the leader has a PM with him wouldn't that be 7 even if the PM is a cpu character?

PM counts as a NPC thus counts as a player towards player count. Meaning 6 max regardless PM NPC or player taking up the slot.

Translation: PM's count as party members.

Better question: If you go into an area with a PM and a tutorial NPC, are you soloing?

No. Solo = alone

Does it matter if you have NPCs or not while playing with AI only?

Technically, cause the NPC's dont get items or money, but they still fill up slots on the max. allowed people

Okay, my vote on the NPC issue would be:
With NPCS: Assisted Soloing.
Without: Soloing.

A distinction really should be made, 'cause honestly, I wouldn't be able to burn through B-Rank Linear Line missions or B-Rank Mad Creatures without Lou and my 410, C.D. But it's still not the same as actually bringing a party along.

It's soloing, it's like saying the entire story mode is assisted soloing when we know that offline is single player because in theory your playing by yourself since it's an NPC, may count as a player but if you say that player is an actually person thus preventing you from soloing that seems like a weak arguement to me.
