Here's the deal. I finally find a cool dude on eBay and get my BBA. It's the best day of my life. I get it and I have American Online Broadband 8.0. It doesn't work or I need help to alter it so it will. If there is someone out there that can help me I'll be forever in your debt. When I played DC I couldn't get online either for a different reason. The game is called Phantasy Star ONLINE Episode I & II not OFFLINE. I've never played online before but it looks like alot of fun. Someone please help.
Thanks, InfernoEyes

If i'm not mistaken, doesn't the BBA say "not for use with AOL"?

I believe it has something to do with PPPoE or something like that. I'm sure someone will reply with some more detailed info, but I know i've seen more than a good chunk of posts on GameFAQs about the BBA and AOL

AOL = Problem.

They don't accually provide an ISP. They give you their software which browses the internet. Unless your getting a GREAT deal, try for cable or DSL instead.

Don't forget, I think AOL DSL doesn't work either.

I actually found 3 BBA's at WalMart tonight when I went to get Metroid Prime. I personally use 56k, but I bought one for a friend. (They were hidden behind the 56k's... so if your local store has them, look behind the dial up modems.) I have it in hand, it doesn't say "Not for use with AOL" on the outside, but on the inside instructions it may. Knowing AOL you may have to download software... which you GC would be unable to handle, so you're gonna have to get dial up and get ISP, or get better cable service.

as far as i know... AOL, compuserve and any other ISP's which use their own software in such a way all use a different dial-up/login procedure to other more basic ISP's which can be launched via internet explorer. i suspect that PSO (all versions) uses the basic approach :/

This is all going to be theoretical, because it might work... or it might not. However, I once managed to get two computers to share one AOL broadband connection through a network and a crossover cable, so it could be possible for a GameCube to use a computer's connection by the same means.

For starters, your computer must have a networking card. Most likely, you have the external AOL USB broadband modem which I worked with. (If you have something else, feel free to say so.) If you do not have a networking card, you will need one.

Secondly, I'm assuming you have a Windows desktop. If you have Win98 SE or higher, you'll need to set up your primary computer to do ICS (Internet Connection Sharing). It can be a royal pain to get this to work with AoL sometimes, but it is possible. I believe http://www.wown.net documents this... if it doesn't, just try a search for "ICS with AOL" or something of the like on http://www.google.com, and you'll come up with a guide.

You'll have to set up a network accordingly. Then, you'll need an RJ-45 Crossover cable (not a standard RJ-45 cable, but it'll say "Crossover" right on the package if you buy it in a retail store).

What you'll have to do, in the end, is set up PSO's networking to connect to your primary computer. You'll need to connect the BBA to your PC's networking card via the Crossover cable, and always have your PC on and connected to AOL while you're playing PSO.

Again, though, this is theoretical -- I don't know if this would work for sure, but I can't remember any reason as to why it won't.

That's the only way you could do it, though, to the best of my knowledge. Since AOL requires its proprietary software to connect, I doubt there's anything else you could do.
