It does, because if you're a ranger, you too can use sleep traps http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif So its normal, probably other enemies will do that later on in upcomming updates.

what is this sleep status effect i've heard of? is it just the stun effect that nosudiga has?

Sleep has the same effect as stun, except you wake up if you get hit at all, whereas stun, you're completely helpless and can't do anything but stand there and watch enemies pummel you until the effect wears off.
