View Full Version : Wackiest and Lamest Character Names in PSO and other RPGs!

FluxGryphon

You know it when you've seen 'em. Those names for characters that just don't belong in the RPG world, whether it's a bloated HUmar named Slim Hippo in PSO, or some blue-faced barbarian named Food in EverQuest, these are names that are either grotesque (e.g. "ShitOnMyFuck"), unoriginal, or are just plain lame. We expect named like Uber1337 in Quake, but in an RPG?

Here you can post the lamest or wackiest names you've encountered in your expeditions on Ragol and other worlds.

Sephiroth and Trunks. Need I say more?

BTW, check out these names in the non-online RPG Breath of Fire 2 (from which my name comes):

- Tigger (Claris's lover), whose friends are Mickey, Donald, Max, and Goofy
- Nympho Mani (witch)
- Land Marks (horse-like party member)
- Aspara Gus (plant (wo)man)
- Millenium Falcon (Mina as a bird)

Actually I don't think a lot of the names I've seen have been that lame.

It depends on your viewpoint and how you precive the people you play with instead of what their names are.

Some of the best players on PSO I know of have the wackiest names I've run into. Best choice for a name is my ole C Mode buddy Hanus Anus.

I 1st met him as a RAmar named CUMSHOT. I had wondered what prompted him to choose that name other than attention getting but after we played in a few games together I quickly realized that he was not only good at C Mode but damn good.

I played with him under many names like MRBROWNEYE, UBER' ANUS, MenopauseMelba, ElectricAnus, ColostomyBag ect ect.

I've seen some names which got a slight chuckle for stupidty like Wife Beater, Jayle Bayte*If you don't get that then there is no hope for you*, & WWWWWWWW which at 1st I thought was an odd name but I just guessed it was an inspiration that made him create that name.

I do admit that I've seen some names which are much worse but generally I would counter to say that people can name themselves what they want because they are the ones paying for the game to play.

Either way, S N K is going back online for somemore play. Latahs...

Oh yeah if any of you guys are up for some help on C-Mode do a look up for me under Choice Search with the only setting being 'How about a challange?'

DBZ names i think are cool, however they are way overused therfor seeing them gets repetative.

I personally think the cool names are the more "stellar like" names, such as;

Stellar
Averi
Rane
Dyne

most of these names have scientific meaning;

Stellar=Outerspace type objects
Averi=Unsure
Rane=Name of a star in the Libra Constellation i believe
Dyne=A proper name for an equatino of power from a given force i believe ? i know it's a formula used for some type of power

SS or SSJ *insert name here*
Various Gundams (e.g. Deathscythe, Tallgeese, etc.) or the occasional Eva.
Heywood Jablowme, Rapist -69-, Cloud Strife(I lost count of how many of these are running around), Fa-Q-all, Sofaking Wetoddid (sound them out phonetically) And there are lots of others that I can't seem to recall right now, but I'll post em later.

I'm a little sick of seeing 'Goku69' or 'Vegeta420' but whatever floats your boat I guess. It's a lot worse on X-Box Live in my opinion. It doesn't really bother me when people have lame names, I'm just all the more quick to consider them morons.

Barubary: Hmm... they changed most of those names for the U.S. release (or maybe just for the more recent GBA version which I've been playing). But Barubary is still the same... (Is it possible to beat Barubary with just Ryu? I tried a few times and got my butt kicked, then decided to copy my save game over so I could try later).

Actually, you have to read the credits at the end of the game. They list all the characters' real names there, not just the shortened 4-letter (ugh) names. I believe Katt's real name was Runpo Chuan or something like that. Tiga was definately Tigger. And even Ryu had a last name which eludes me at the moment.

Anyway, back to the topic. There's loads of goofy names out there. There's my pal Tubby (his old DC description read: "I'm a fat android!"). I'm sure some people will remember Mr. Stinky and Coffee & Tea, among others. There was another one similar to Fish & Chips, but I can't remember exactly what it was.

ObiWanShinobi, LOL, clever!

I've seen ColostomyBag and some of the other rather icky names running around for myself.

Those names from BoF 2 are [b]not[/u] what they are supposed to be ... the translation team for BoF 2 cared about that game so little that the entire endgame credit sequence is full of names such as "Donald D., Mickey M., Aretha F., Tina T., Mariah C." rather than the names of the actual Japanese people who worked on the game. You should be able to find some screenshots I submitted to the Zany Video Game Quote website years ago. http://zanyvg.overclocked.org/

I've met a nice player whose RAcaseal is A.M.A.N.D.A., I thought that was a cute idea http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

I've run into one or several red-and blue RAcast(s) named Optimus Prime, hahah.

I've also met a fellow from the UK who has a character named "Loftgroover". When I noticed, I thought that was so cool I jumped right into his game and began handing out presents http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Ryu Bateson, I think it was. Also, I believe it is possible to beat Barubary with just Ryu... you just need to be strong and save up all the good MP restore items, I think. It's been awhile since I've played BoF2 on the SNES... ahh, Katt was my favorite. Which was incidently not much of an original name either... http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I had a guild card of a Trunks, and when I searched him today his name had changed to TRUNKS... I guess he decided he needed some caps.

I seemed to run into a lot of wwwwwwwwww characters when I played Diablo 2, I still have a screenshot of some guy just named "wwwwwwcccccc". Of course that would be even more tempting in PSO with the WC symbol chat.. hmm...

anything nicked (no pun intended) from DBZ, FF7, or any other unoriginal geek pop culture reference just needs to stop.....period... and ditch those SSJ's too..

if you're going to use a pop-culture reference, why not pick something a little more obscure you can use as a litmus test for folks you group with...
my problem is that my names tend to be too esoteric...
but i digress

most of the funnier names in EQ got f'd over by GMs, but many of them were merited... and many names just sounded like something Tolkien's retarded brother would come up with...
Modus Operandi was one of the more clever names i've seen... but for every clever name there are 10 really awful ones...
on a related note
if SWG hits xbox live before pso comes out, i'll be stuck with some pre-made lame star wars approved type name... it's not that i wanna see a bunch of luukskywalker's ... but christ... middle ground anyone?

Why is the name Sephiroth (for example) wacky or lame?

Its a normal name that has good purpose for being used. It looks just like him.

It may be way overused, but why does that make the name lame?

Names that are overused become lame.

That's because many people like to name themselves after popular personalities in popular video games or TV shows, in the hopes that their peers would associate that character's strengths with THEIR character.

The appropriateness of character names depends on the show/game from which it comes, and on popular opinion. For example, I have no problems with people naming their RAcaseal Kurumi (from Steel Angel Kurumi)...but I immediately avoid people who name themselves after DBZ characters. You know, stuff like 'MAJINBUU' or 'SSJGOKUTRUNKS' or some bs name like that.

Why the double-standard, you say? That's because DBZ is a fun show to watch, but it contains little or no value. DBZ is like Twinkies...they're nice to eat but they contain little nutritional value and you quickly move onto better things or starve to death (or you could eat Twinkies all day and become something resembling a beached whale). People who watch DBZ and actually worship the show tend to be slow of mind, have little to no creative energy, and are usually immature.

Then there's popular opinion...I don't think anybody would argue that, of all the names stolen from FF7, Sephiroth is the most overused simply because Sephiroth was a cool character. It's the same with names stolen from DBZ...everybody wants to be a goddamn Vegeta, or a frickin' Goku.

Anyways, there ya go. That's why naming yourself after certain characters in certain shows can get you lynched or venerated, depending on a number of factors....

Mag Launcher: The main character of the Evolution RPG series. It's quite underrated, so you won't be seeing this name often.

Linear Cannon: Another Evolution character.

Konoko (OniKonoko M2): The female protagonist of the forgotten early 2001 PS2/PC game, Oni. RAmarl in PSo for obvious reasons.

Gattsu: I stayed up all night watching Berserk DVDs. So don't blame me if this isn't original. Better than fscking Sephiroth.

I REFUSE to make a Sephie. OR an SSJ68 Gotenkjita.

Heh Sometimes the simplest things provide for hours of entertainment.

My nick of course is old as dirt but it's from a character in an obscure Neo*Geo game called Waku Waku 7.

The character BonusKun looks like a giant white Punching Bag *Or cigarette depending on your veiwpoint* That spoofs all of Ryu's Moves from his Hadoken, ShoryuKen and all other sorts of nonesense right down to his theme music in the game being a arranged Rip of Ryu's old SF II music.

I made a Nei on the PC demo version of PSO. Not only was her hair purple, her eyes purple, and her costume purple, but she was also a Purplenum! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif

Since the demo doesn't allow you to invest much in the development of your characters, it's easy to name them things from other games. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Do you mean FF4 and FF6 (2 and 3 were the original Ted Woolsey US versions)? I'm assuming you are. I've seen lots of people using references to those two games, on both the DC and the GC. I've known a couple of Cecils and Kains, and seen some Dark Knights, Dragoons, Terras, Lockes, Cyans, Sabins, Shadows, etc.

There were alot of lame names I saw since PSO first came out, up to today, but nothing was as memorable for me as this: a FOmarl named sick_bi0tch. LOL. I never got to talk to that char; I only watched as he (I could tell it was guy by the way he spoke) spat out all kinds of wierd puns in the lobby, gathering all kinds of attention....

About non-JP using JP names: yeah, most of them are pretty lame, cause they don't know what they are using for names. But if you have a friend who speaks JP very well, then you can find some good JP names. I do have a relative who hang around with native JP people in chatroom, so I just go ask him and bam! I get a kick-ass JP name. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

About a year ago, I saw a RAcast named Leaky-PiPes and a RAmar named Tubby Bytche (I think that's how it's spelled). Earlier today, I saw someone in the lobby named Food Stamps. My first DC Char, MetalGriever I'll admit wasn't very original, but I didn't see anyone else using it.
As my first V2 char, Yggdrasil V2, I kept getting asked if I got the name from Xenogears. The answer? No. The Yggdrasil is a tree of life from orse mythology.
DarkEpyon, the name I use pretty much everywhere was indeed derrived from GW back in early 2000. I chose it due to the fact I have a dark and morbid sense of humor, and Epyon was IMHO one of the coolest gundams in the saga.
As for ZEOTA, I don't know where I pulled that one from, but I hear it is an actual name, albeit EXTREMELY rare.

My friend made a RAmarl named "GHETTOBLING" or something of the sort. I'm scared. XD

Er, I put in weird names when I'm really bored, like Kikkoman the FOnewm and Teriyaki the FOmarl (except a threw an apostrophe in there out of boredom, so it's really Teriya'ki).

Yeah, I've seen curry-donut, too.

I can't think of that many silly names I've seen on GC PSO... not that I haven't seen them, I just don't generally remember them... http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I once saw a short, fat, black-clothed HUmar floating around in a lobby in his chair, just tooting by everybody. His name? "Fat Tony".

I thought that was friggin' hilarious.

I'll admit, if anyone has played Suikoden III they'll automatically remember my name.

Sasarai was a badass Bishop of the Harmonian Empire who would stomp your face into the ground everytime you battled him. *shiver*

However, I didn't take the name to be unoriginal, I just think it's a cool name.

I think that JP Players have some of the funniest names. I saw one JP guy named J001 and when I had their levels / language setting display above their head it was "J001 J001"

japanese players really use weird names. (No no, not like wang-pong chin)

Ive seen "Milk" "apple" "cookie"...

Maybe theirs a clan in japan on food items http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Well, Japanese names often translate to strange things as well... Such as "ta" meaning cornfield, I believe? (I know I'm gonna get something wrong, here http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif) Or "gohan" meaning something like steamed rice.
I dunno. o_O

Meanwhile, I made a chubby, short FOnewm named Masta Slim. He will be FEARED.

You're right, it does mean "rice". Just as Freiza is a play on the English word, Freezer, and so on, so forth... DBZ is filled with food references and spoof names. Heck, Goku's entire origin was thought up as an on-the-spot dedication to one of Toriyama's favorite Western superheroes, "Superman".

Sephiroth is a good name, I think. It reminds me of Angel Sanctuary which had massive references to the Kabala as well. It's better than "Branch on the Tree of Life."

milk is a very cute name, imho
apple seems nice too...
see jet set/grind radio for furthers ^-^

and afaik son-goku comes from a chinese fairytale - see saiyuki ('travel to the west [of china]' or something like that...) - and refers to the king of the apes in that story... (therefore son-gokus staff that can be enlarged when nessessary - same as the monkey king bar btw)

The name of my force is real lame: Crazy Chick, but it fit the ID I wanted so I went with it.

I've seen people with Crazybitch and other messed up names like that.

I created a HUmar named CaptOriginal, I thought that was kinda funny. Actual english names, like Amanda or Joel as character names bothers me, but that's about it. If you're gonna create a video game character, let it have a video game name.

I'm all about originality, but I hate when there's just boing names. Like Bob or similar. Seems like someone's lacking in the creativity department or something. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I hate getting accused of stealing my name from some anime. ARGH. I've never even seen whatever cartoon it is that my name came from. ::cries::

DBZ names aren't that bad. I use Kakarotto on a lot of games because I like the name, not because I'm a huge fan of Goku. (I prefer Gohan age 13 anyway.) I also use names from roman mythology.. anyone heard of Cincinattus? No? Hint: It has nothing to do with Cincinnati. Anyway the only names that really bug me are '(insert anything here)2432565625.'

on a side note, my char is named Rayne, because i was looking at my PS2 games while I was making her and didn't have time to come up with a decent female name for a FOnewearl

I dislike unoriginal names. Like Goku***, Sephiroth*** anything with pointless numbers in it, and if is immediately recognized as a name from a well-known game, anime or comic.

But I think my name Hiirigazawa is original. Just seems to suit me.

Would it upset anyone to know I just made a character named 'l33tSSJcloud'?

I wanted to put in like 'PK' and '69' and other such overused idioms, but there wasn't enough room. Pitty.

Maybe I should make it all caps...

(I think) A Roman general who was retired and worked on a farm when the senate gave him supreme power so he could fight of the germans. And when he was done he gave up the supreme power over rome so he could go back to his farm and be.. a.. farmer.

I think Cincinatti was named after him.

I dun think its mythology either.

my characters name is kinda lame, It's Jazie V.1...
Jazie, is named after my girlfriend Jasmine, and V.1 is after a WWE Wrestler who calls himself Version 1.

(That's in the GC Version)

In the DC Version, I used to use Japanese names for my HUNewearls, but not HUmars... I had a HUMar named Allen once lol. THe japanese people I've played with usually liked my names, because I actually knew what they meant.

corn... sounds a bit corny...
pie? berry? plum? - all concidered cute names
no really... it depends - if you like your character having a name like 'vodka' for example... you could also call yourself 'roadkill' or something like that...
as long as youre a good player, noone would mind - even this bukkake-thingy is kinda funny imho.

in the end its all just creativity..
and using goku or using alucard is no difference...

I try to take every day words and turn them into names. For example, my RAmar is "Nevo Rhust" which comes from 'never' and 'rust'. And my FOmar is "Caw'shinn" which...Well that one's pretty obvious. Not exactly outstanding names, but at least no one else uses them!

As for my HUmar...I read the LOTR _after_ I came up with Gandor Durin, so I don't know how that happened.

Maybe it's just me, but so far I haven't seen one saiyan or final fantasy name. Guess I'm just lucky! Lots of names with the word bitch in it, though. And of course there's 2phat4u, who caught me off guard and I spewed forth partially chewed corn.

If a non-offensive name makes me laugh, I'm all for it! I stink at funny names though, but at least that keeps anyone from copying mine.

I'm still waiting for people to make characters like "Hornyslut69" and start asking for rares in exchange for...Let us never speak of such things again.

Aside from my old standby of kincaid, the names I use tend to be from various word etymology, for example, I have a FOmar I just started, named Woer'Loga, from the origin of warlock, and a RAmarl, named Val Kyrja from the origin of valkyrie, iv'e also got a pretty good stock of dopey names, that don't see much use, like:

Duh Ugh
Gonad the Pommerarian (pity it won't fit in PSO)
Ach Chu
Yu No Hu
Juan Hung Lo
Mr. Spork
Aspar Tane
Mr. Pib
Pin Re Set (stole that one from a comic)
