Avalanches Of Ice And Snow Are Dangerous And Destructive

The inevitable heating and cooling of snow covered roof surfaces causes a build-up of ice that begins at the eave and works its way upward. Smooth metal roof panels create a slick surface which is prone to release built-up ice and snow in large, dangerous avalanches. Sliding ice not only tears away gutters and downspouts and damages roof-mounted equipment, but also poses a danger to pedestrians, landscape, lower roofs and equipment upon which it may land.

Ice-Brakes are designed to hold built-up snow in place, allowing it to melt away gradually, preventing dangerous sudden slides.

Avalanches Of Ice And Snow Are Dangerous And Destructive

Are they as dangerous and destructive as a roof caving in because the snow's not escaping? O_o

Wouldn't it be better to just, y'know, design your roof and the perimeter of your house with it in mind that you'll be having these problems in your area? I mean, surely, this sort of thing doesn't come as a surprise... I mean... Northern Europeans developed houses with exceptionally steep roofs so the snow wouldn't build up on them? 'cause, y'know, their ceilings were collapsing under the weight and stuff.

Hate to imagine how they'd manage if they actually were selling sweets.

Actually, they only sell catalogs. And catalog space, I assume. They provide product and contact information for construction supplies.
