I have a question about the character slots. I have 4 characters but I am thinking of deleting one and making a new one. If I do delete one, will I lose that slot and be down to three characters? Or will the character be deleted and the slot still there?

You'll be down to 3 slots and have to purchase the next character. There's no benefit to deleting characters unless you're at 12, since you'll miss out on storage space and skill tree passes otherwise.

Only the first two slots are free. If you delete any above the first two, you'll have to pay to get those slots back.
If you only have one or two characters, you can delete them and still have a free slot or two.
