I think you would have been better off doing Sayara's style from the ground up. The best way to describe his style would be substance in the absence of form. I don't think you can just modify what you have to get that. You need to start with something, and just go with it without bothering to give it shape.
At least, that was the mindset I had with my piece.
Oh, and I totally did not see that manga until right now. I want more.
