Like mentioned, according to the stream, they announced that it will follow an original story.
With that being said, there's no clue if this "original story" will include the NPC's we all adore and love or not. I do hope they put the NPC's in there though, instead of going ahead of themselves and designing new characters.

I have only seen some random videos, is there a quick summary of what happens in the Stage Play?

10 to 1 odds on moeblob slice of life. I mean, if it wants to be an accurate representation of the game...

I always wanted to see a PSO2 anime, but only if it had followed the game's story.
Then again, I honestly don't give a crap about story. Just show me a couple of episodes filled with senseless but awesome fighting scenes, leading up to a massive battle between Arks and Darkers in the final episodes. I wanna see people Heavenly Falling enemies into the ground, Backhand Smashing them into oblivion and Satellite Cannoning the shit out of Ragnes.

Maybe it'll end with Lisa pulling some School Days shit.

PSO2 On Stage was the telling of the integration of Virtual Drive technology, pretty much the same thing our own HardLight620 has been working on with his Virtual Connect project, It's very similar in plot to .hack/SAO where by a player becomes trapped within the game, but it also turns it on its head by asking "What happens when a game character comes into the real world?"

It was ultimately a story about the trials players go through every day, random fights with bosses, having to slay a boss thousands of times to find that one elusive drop they've been looking for, along with finally giving us some kind of answer for how Dark Falz got to Earth if you didn't take the Earth ending in Phantasy Star III Generations of Doom. (Nothing is shown on stage for that, but if you were an evil entity that had just arrived at a new planet, would you go immediately to facing the one you've been fighting against or would you do something to make sure you could take over this world as well first?)

Maidoll's reaction is the best part about this news so far.

The relationship that Earth has to the PSO2 universes is going to make or brake this show for me. If Earth is just one of the planets that the Arks fleet visits then I'm in. If however we are getting a DotHack style trapped in the game or a Digimon/Tron the game world is real then I'm out.

That would be a terrible idea, these are the worst designs I've seen so far i this game. I love fan service as much as the next guy, but com'on, one of them has a complete boob out with a sticker on the nip and the other one his basically wearing a 2-sided apron.

Would've liked it to talk about the events before PSO2. Like a prequel so we can see how the Arks became Arks.

The trapped in an MMO setting has actually been REALLY overdone lately (if you can call it lately). I can think of 3 relatively recent ones off the top of my head. Not that that's bad. It just seems like an odd choice when they could have done something like god eater anime and just had it entirely in the setting proper instead of pulling a character from the "real" world.

Yeah, it could be cool. I think the concept is trying to make the game relate to their fans in a way? BUT at the same time I do think it makes sense in this case. Since we the silent protaganist and we are the heroes this time around in the game, I can see why they avoided that idea. I mean, it's kind of the easy way out without making the main character have some super detailed story and personality which could alter the plot of the canon story. Plus the matter board would be incredibly weird if it were in the anime... I still don't understand what it's supposed to be (sorry I'm new to the Phantasy Star series and PSO2...but some of the audience will be just like me, new to the series and everything). It's hard though because half of me is torn to wonder what it would've been like if they made the PSO world as the anime rather than students playing the game.

I still don't understand what it's supposed to be (sorry I'm new to the Phantasy Star series and PSO2...but some of the audience will be just like me, new to the series and everything). It's hard though because half of me is torn to wonder what it would've been like if they made the PSO world as the anime rather than students playing the game.

The protagonist in God Eater is silent in the games too, but they gave the character in the anime a lot of personality, granted they also changed the story flow. So you're right inthat it's easy, but this anime is probably gonna have an entirely seperate plot anyway.

When I saw her watching him Pee I was like 100% certain that's the case. Like I said, no one has to get trapped. Instead of "trapped in a game" I should have said something like "The game world is a real world", which would actually only narrow it down to Log Horizon and Overlord, since in the others the game is still technically a game.

They probably went with the High School setting to be safe. They're using the anime as an advertisement to get more people to try PSO2.

If they just used the normal PSO setting, people might get bored with the folklore and such. By using the regular HS students that get thrown into a virtual world, more people will be able to relate to the story.

Edit: I'm sure everyone fantasizes about getting thrown into a virtual world. That's part of why we play this in the first place. :D
