Watched just now, and choked on my drink, thanks SEGA.
I never thought I'd see Phantasy Star on a major E3 conference presentation.
It said with all the content in the game as well, that's crazy! lol
Please let this come to other systems (PC/PS4)
And my reaction to the annoucement: ABOUT F'ING TIME!!!111!!
I don't actually believe it. Just wow.
Incoming region locks on JP PSO2?
Just watched the announcement. I'm HYPED! Microsoft is killing it!
It is going to feel good being an active member here again. A year long wait but it will be worth it!
Been waiting so long for an official release, can't wait.
I haven't posted here for years.... now I'm finally coming back soon..... Finally it's being released here
NOOOOOO IT FINALLY HAPPENED BUT WILL IT ACTUALLY BE UP TO DATE OR 20YRS BEHIND REE
JK but cg to those who waited SEVEN YEARS for this, supposedly cross play
Oh cool... we're finally getting PSO2 in the west after EIGHT YEARS... Oh crap! Potential incoming region locks... MY PROGRESS!! ;_;
too late
Incoming region lock, everyone better get their VPNs ready. What concerns me most is what this means for Tweaker and the translation team, depending how heavy handed Sega get.
Yeah... to fucking late. time to release was 2014 or 15 at the latest, but here we are, 2019 and just now.. goddamn it sega.
Tweaker trash finally disappearing? Wonderful
Now they gonna IP block JP servers? :(
I quit the JP version years ago so I don't mind starting over. It caught me off guard though. Lol
How will it have everything, when they have so many collaborations and shit.
I'm concerned about this as a business move for the future of Phantasy Star localization, but will be fun to play with friends again during the initial hype.
That or he's a snob who can read Japanese and thinks anyone who can't shouldn't be playing.
As for an IP ban, server mergers or data transfer, guess we'll see how smart SEGA and M$ are. Do they really think that people who have been playing this game for all of these years will want to start over? Let's see if they play their cards right.
If the western version ends up being the reason sega carpet bombs all non jp ip in order to force people to play on the "global" server will make me choke all those "yay western version finally" supporters
Whaaaaaaaa! Crazy news
Basically this.
I don't think I'll be up to start all over again. Can't wait to know more about it. At least if they do region locks I will be able to look at my steam library again. So much stuff I've yet to play.
Edit: I really hop Anduril is right. No more bitching at my isp would be nice ^^;
I have so much time spent on the game already (2.5k hours) I don't know if i should be happy or not. This is great news but do i really want to start from scratch again. Would be amazing move to offer server transfer to ENG servers. Highly unlikely but amazing. If it means losing all the collab items, then so be it. I don't want to lose my progress.
Why is this happening? Who is responsible for this? WHO IS STILL ASKING FOR THIS!? Just don't fuck with my ability to play on JP servers and I don't care, but I can't say I'm not spooked about losing all my progress because microsoft gets pissy that "why is the player count so low on our servers?" and asking sega to IP block our regions. I refuse to ever believe in SoA doing this series justice with their "services".
7 years later https://twitter.com/SEGA/status/507206954800803840
US servers for those who dont wanna play/too lazy to play JP server. Hopefully they'd just leave us oldtimer foreigners on JP server alone since we're probably a minority in JP anyway(other than ship 2 which completely got conquered by gaijins.) This would probably get people who play casually on ship2 to leave while inviting JP's back into that ship.
I'd rather not lose all my progress if Sega decides to push us all away to the English servers.
With crossplay announced I wouldnt be surprised if JP and US/EU played together ala what Monster Hunter World is doing. PC is making me weary though. I just don't trust Western gamers to not hack it to pieces.
Can't believe this is finally happening. I have no idea what I'll do given I've spent thousands of hours on JP servers, but great to see it finally coming to the west. I lost my mind when I heard the PSO2 theme...
letting us server transfer would be the best thing to happen.
Don't know if you played the original pso but that game was hacked to shit, it was so bad you had to fear just standing in lobbies..only old timers know why. so yes, western gamers will hack it to pieces, if they can.
If fact, i can't confirm this since it was so long ago but i think they even halted updates to the game due to how bad the hacking got.
on the bright side though we've come a long way since 20 years and sega bans at the drop of a hat if they catch you doing anything, so it may not be nearly as bad.
Well, they brought back the fucking website: https://pso2.com/
And that's exactly my thoughts too. I've spent years playing and real world money in the game. I would love to support a English side of the game... but I don't want all my progress lost and I personally would probably just stay on the JP version with an English patch. I've spent 2,248 hours in PSO2, and I don't have the real world time to start over again.
Have they given any more details about it? Can the JP users migrate to the Eng servers? Will "coming to the west" just amount to a english-language option for us PC players?
If people have to start all over just to play in official English, I don't know how many of us will actually do that and I think it'd hurt the survival rate of the game...As the main English PSO2 community outside of reddit, we ought to try to get some way to prevent that situation from happening.
Overall, I'm still glad about this announcement. PSO2 has been doing that "live services" model crap back from when they were still called MMOs, and does it a thousand times better then any of these other games. Can't wait for it to explode here too.
The website says "North America", so we from the EU might be safe from ISP blockade.
And I sure as hell hope they don't make it a Windows 10 app...
#PSO2 is finally making its western debut in North America on Xbox One in Spring 2020. Regarding an EMEA release, there's nothing to confirm right now. We understand it’s frustrating, but when we have more news to share, we will. Stay tuned to https://pso2.com for updates.

I'm sorry, but I just can't imagine how funny it would be if this was ANOTHER prank and they just ghost on us again for another 5 years, lmao.
This new is long overdue. Been waiting for ages to play this game and now I will finally get my change to return to PSO.
Just revived my account here after hearing the news. So, anyone care to let me know what to expect compared to PSO and PSU? Lol
*After 11 years lol*
Except this almost never happened because you would have seen over the years with rage threads about being blocked, only those who got caught cheating trying to make up sob stories were trying to get around the block. Gaijins didnt really have anything to fear either
I still wanna know if content will be up to date or not either way staying JP servers in case they pull the PSU situation sometime down the line
One of the reasons I'm excited for this is because I really couldnt be assed to jump through hoops to get a PSO2 account on JP when it first came out, so when I finally did alot of the earlier episodes werent available on the server to play which kinda took me out of it. I would think they have to open up all episodes in this localization which is a major plus for me.
Sudden realization:
Halo collab anyone?
They mentioned it will release with all content in the post-announcement discussion. I assume that means the game will be up to date with Japan when it launches. It sounds bad since the game is so deep in it's life span, but I'm sure they will fully support the game (otherwise it is a big waste of time for all parties involved).
The PC version can run pretty well on my garbage 2011 MBP with Windows so I'd suggest trying it out. I briefly played it a couple years ago and it is much more complex than PSU. There is a skill tree which adds to the min-maxing for those into that sort of thing. I played as a gunner and they have removed some of the old weapons and added in way more skills. So no more shotgun, but the rifle is very versatile and there was photon art for it that mimicked the PSU shotgun. I believe there was a skill with bullet penetration that mimicked the lasers from PSU.
There is just way more to do in PSO2. The casino is improved. Upgrading weapons is improved. The main lobby isn't as good as PSU imo. With PSO2, the missions are consolidated to one area (just got to talk to the lady at the counter).
The loot drops at the end were different. It might have been like that in PSO, but there aren't a ton of boxes like there was in PSU. You break the crystal/orb and everything just drops from it. The game play is more action-oriented as well (which is a welcome change imo). PSU felt very simple in terms of combat.
I do kinda find it humorous that in Japan its on PC/PS4 and in the West it's on PC/Xbox.
That is funny. The game is already on PS4 and they would just have to change the language. I guess Microsoft pushed it to happen and Sony (of America) doesn't care enough. I guess with them highlighting and doing well with single-player games, they saw no reason to push the issue. Their loss, I guess. Sony has mentioned wanting to get involved in the multiplayer aspect so it would make sense to do easy things like this.
It is also out on Switch in some cloud form. I'd actually prefer to play on the Switch for the portability aspect, but something is better than nothing.
Hey everyone. I heard the music during the presentation and thought I'd stop by. Pretty exciting stuff. I actually know nothing about any of this, so don't ask.
It's possible that Microsoft could be spearheading this one, so I don't know how community stuff is going to go or if Sega will have forums for this or whatever. Still, I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out.
logged back in to say imagine if they don't let you transfer progress lol
either way I'm down

“there will be no limitations on game experiences such as Class Level cap or direct purchase of high-tier weapons because we want to provide all players with a fair and exciting experience.”
oh so the SEA treatment, pay to get dmg increases. holy fuck its no wonder why casuals complained about current expert req.
EDIT: unless theyre not referring to IRL cash and mean like what we have now by buying Dim/Awake series then idk because its a vague explanation
It makes me genuinely sad if they want to kick the ENG community out from the JPN servers. Even if we're not supposed to be there in the first place, i always thought we were a small part of the community. Does it really make the a server better if we're gone? I really don't want to leave my character or the nice community we have here. Yeah, they're probably not kicking us out but i'm a bit uneasy about this.
And God bless their souls for it ^_^
They'll just move ship 02 to the NA servers. One day we'll log on and see a bunch of kids swearing, talking streets and showing dick pics all around and we'll know that we're in hell.
Is there anything from SoJ regarding people's fears about getting booted from the JP servers? Like did they put out some kind of word that they were planning on doing this? Because as far as I remember they were always pretty good about letting importers play. I mean it's technically against the terms of service but on PSU as long as you were quiet and respectful they didn't press it much.
no, its the fact that a West release was announced that everyone is on edge for no real reason. its not going to stop people from playing on there who actually real care to with or without a VPN.
if Sakai gets his initial intention for a Global server setup then thats the best people can hope for otherwise split servers
all content coming alongside it? i wonder if that also implies a western version of pso2es.
Also
Nintendo: we took one year to localize Monster Hunter XX, and we are not even releasing it in its original console
Sega: hold my sake
Well I uh. Never saw this announcement coming. I'm still more confused than excited, but I'm glad the game is finally getting wider distribution. Have there ever been any real details on what happened with PSO2's international release? I remember rumors that SEGA's contract with Asiasoft restricted wider distribution, but other than that just eerie radio silence.
Still, cool that's finally getting an official NA release! It just feels so...random, after all this time.
I'm just reading "all content" to mean "up to Episode 6," not commenting either way on PSO2es. Which I'm not too concerned about. Whether it would stagger five episodes behind or just dump it all at once was a bigger question. I'm glad they decided on the latter.
It's been so long since I've been here but I am excited that we are finally getting PSO2
remember the Xbox version of PSU outlived the Playstation version which makes more sense to give it to Xbox over PS4 especially with Sony's current PC views
Why even bother porting the game again? 7 years-old game that is.
Did anyone forgot that tweaker already got a thing called "Telepipe proxy" so blocked IPs can connect to the game? no additional VPNs needed. In my case Im from SEA but Im using seiryl's proxy
I mainly attribute that to hacks from the PC version though. PC\PS2 was running 3.5 full star servers until the hacking came around. Around the initial release of the 10* weapons. Then it almost completely collapsed. Xbox was free from hacks back then.
Edit: I've been almost completely out of the PSO2 loop regarding content. Are the costumes really that bad?
If they come in right at episode 6 the it takes away the entire experience of the game.
I can understand it not wanting to be 7 years behind but in the same sense it renders a huge amount of the content worthless and some of the EQs just simply won't work without the gear needed (mining base despair for example). Then there's genuinely fun content like challenge mode and Las Vegas that there's just no point touching or farming. It feels to me personally like jumping in is gonna take away the ability to get those fun experiences, huge hype and fond memories that those of us on JP got to have. I wonder how thatll affect the english playerbase and the immersion in the game. Many of us have stuck on the JP server because we've been there so long we've established that history and connection to the game. I stil remember fighting og profound darkness with my team, where we didnt skip the cutscenes and spent ages just take screenshots and talking about how far the game had come. You NEED those to keep player retention, people dont stick with games they have no attachment to.
I want it to succeed obviously im a dreamcast player, but I cant see it lasting past the initial hype. Not when people start comparing it, and they will, to games like ffxiv with higher budgets.
Oh and they're obvuously not gonna allow transfers for fairness and all the legal issues with collab content. I mean it'd be nice to have a cross server with JP but then you'll get people raging they cant afford the crouch emote.
About time. This is good news for people who haven't played it yet.
Bruh.
Why the hell did it take this long? Practically makes for a good nostalgia trip for me personally at this point.
Glad people who never took the plunge will have an easier way to enjoy the game.
Also remember, no more extra lewd stuff in the west. Most of them might get removed or censored lmao
theyre going to have LV95 cap first day and everything else readily available, not only that theyll most likely make a specific mode akin to Story Mode Omnibus specifically for West players and while yes some gear will be probably impossible to attain, they'll probably create an event or boost specific quests over a few months to get people familiarized with the game. They got plans we just dont know them
ya thats a real issue is the Wests stupid censorship on the things for games they dont even play
They said all the content, but I don't know if the implication is supposed to be day one. It's possible that they could release it at a somewhat accelerated rate.
Also, I'm looking forward to the announcement of PSO3 for Japan at TGS. I'd laugh so hard. Doubly so if it was PSU2.
Congrats to the "waiters", I guess.
I hope I'm proven wrong here, and want this to succeed, but I don't see this lasting for too long. Anyone that was truly serious about playing (CAPTCHAs be damned) already has, or still does.
If they're going to jam in 7+ years worth of content, I sincerely hope they use a different form of progression.
I'll probably mess with it for like a week or so and be like "Oh man this part sucked back in the day!", and that will be that.
Thier best bet is to market this game towards people who dont know what PSO is IMO. Seven years is a long time and alot of younger gamers can look at this game as a new one that they never heard of before. There will be those who will go back because of PSO1 and PSU but the new players to the franchise is where the real untapped potential is.
SoA need to market this game hard because after PSU turned out to not be very profitable for them in the West, this one may be our last shot at a localized Phantasy Star game, and one that took almost a decade to get to us.
Well found my reason to get up. I'm now unretired. Was waiting for a good reason to come out of hiding. Will post all the names on the Guild cards I have from DC & GCN when I get the time. "Welcome to PSO!" lol, I am sooo giddy.

like I said a few pages ago, Sakai wanted PSO2 to be global which im sure he's probably pushing for this time but who really knows how its actually going to play it until we get info about this again or if for some reason out of the blue they mention something in the next stream in July
... I'll be honest I checked the date to confirm if it was a late Aprils joke but this seems real.
For some reason.
The Words "All the Content" do intrigue me but this is a risky move no matter what.
its better if they push everything out up to date content but apply a roadmap for Western players because its a helluva better choice than trying to go through each Ep over time to get people to experience the content like it was on release only to inevitably never catch up.
what is this scam, this garbage isnt even coming to ps4/vita in west? i knew segac was bad but this is so bad its not even funny
