The Latest PSO3 TCBG Project

"Yet another one..." you are saying to yourself? Well I've always wanted to do this for some time but ever had the drive. Well with summer almost over I can reveal what I've been up to for the past 3 months. I realise that ZkDash is also running a project thread and I don't want to step on any toes but he hasn't posted in his thread for over a month now.

I've been working hard on not only the cards but also the game mechanics and have been through several revisions of how the game is going to work before coming up with the current rule set. For fans of the game much of the workings are going to be very much identical to the GC version but little bits here and there had to be altered to suit a non-copmputer environment.

So far all the work I've done has been uploaded to a message board I created to upload everything to. Its not the most flashy place but it does the job.

Well I got a new card style to show you guys. I've been fine editting the layout so it looks a little more insync with itself, before it was a bit mismatched. I also noticed a fair few errors on the cards I'd already done. Most were just spelling mistakes but one or two were pretty major. I'm hoping to have the full card list done by next weekend.

I haven't really had the chance to post in this thread, nor the other one, but what do you suppose the odds are of including some of the cards that never made it into the final version of Episode 3? The illustrations for many cards (such as Delsaber, Hildetorr, Guom Trap, and Egg Blaster) still exist in the data. Their effects are also intact, but the cards themselves were never actually implemented, and can only be accessed via hacking devices.

Most of the cards that were never put into the final version were either deemed overpowered, underpowered, or frequently came with the abilities Time Bomb or Drain. Nonetheless, I think it would be interesting to see at least some of them restored.

Its funny you should mention them, I was made aware of them not so long ago and I am investigating the possibility of including them. I'd like to include them to be honest as there are some good cards in that group and it would be great to expand this project beyond the original bounds of the game.

Once I've finished all the regular cards I intend to check through the other ones and see what I can do. If a card is over/under powered or whatever I will look into changing it so it will be more fair. So yeah, watch this space.

I've also taken the liberty of correcting various things I've noticed with the cards that seemed off. On big thing is the top bar colours. ((% of the weapon and creature cards had just red even if they caused status effects, had rampage/pierce, or had death abilities. So I've corrected those issues to bring things in line with the guard cards (which I'm currently working on in addition to all the other action cards).

More double posting action. Yes sorry for that but I got more news. I've been hard at work running through the cards and I'm pleased to announce that I have successfully completed all the remaining cards, thats action, assist and character. Having a template certainly helped but its taken me a fair few late nights to get them all done all the same. I don't have time to post them up now but I'll do that later today at some point.

I'm also well into writing the rules up, theres just a few more things I need to add in and then they will more or less be completed baring any major oversights on my part. I have also finished a selection of counters that can be used to denote where creatures and characters are on the field.

And speaking of field, here's a little look at one of the battle maps I've been working on. I only have a few completed but I'll be working more heavily on them now that the cards are done.

I know they don't look too flashy but I've not got any ideas on how to make it look more interesting yet, so any comments along those lines would be greatly appreciated. Well until later today, cyas!

Can you possibly make two pdf files (one for heroside, one for darkside) with cards arranged for printing 12 cards per page on standard letter sized cardstock?
3 copies of every card in each pdf (except for event cards for which there should only be one of each.) Enough for one player to have complete Hunter or Arkz deck construction.
Also include a page of card backs and a page of the character/monster counters and their backs with character/monster names and 3 copies of each monster counter except for event monsters so they can be printed aswell please.

Basically a printing set of all cards and counters yes? Yeah I can work something out for that. It will probably take me a few days before I can really start on it, I'm not gonna have much chance to work on things for a few days due to other commitments, but yes, I'll see what I can do.

Well I'm back to work on this after a short break. Got sidetracked by a number of things in RL but I've managed to find some time to continue work on things.

I'm still working on a printing set of my completed cards, not found an easy way to create a pdf file yet but I'll keep working on it. Anyway, today I was working on my first expansion to the original card set, namely the extra cards that were not included in the game but that were still created. I'm still working on them but here's a few samples of the ones I've so far completed. Personally I like the Photon Blast cards, they are gonna be fun to use.

Well I've finally finished the first version of my card print sets. Sorry it's taken me so long but I kept going back and forth through the cards picking up on little details I wanted to change or weren't happy with. But yeah, I have to release them all eventually so I guess I'll let you guys tell me how they shape up.

In the file below you'll find 5 different PDF files, one for story characters, one for weapons, one for creatures, one for action cards, and finally one for assist cards. They are arranged in a 3x3 grid on each page with 3 copies of each card included. I should point out that this pack contains only the original cards as the unreleased cards are still being worked on. I will also be relaeasing updated versions of this pack as I add new things. The next likely addition will be a page of card backs, counters and a selection of battle maps.

Finally I want to mention the rules. I know a lot of people here will have played the original game but some won't have, and even if you have I have had to change a few things in the rules to fit a non-computer based environment. I've created a message board that displays all the cards and rules I've so far finished. If you'd like to check it out please do so. I will also gladly welcome any comments you may have on the cards and the rules so please do get in touch if you notice anything wrong, spelling mistakes, potential problem, incorrect descriptions, etc.

Ok guys, college and work have been sitting on me heavily for a while but I have been fiddling with things as and when I can.

I got a question for you all. I'm pondering on the card size. At the standard size (63x88mm) the text on some cards gets a little difficult to read. I'm concidering using an enlarged size comparable to the arch enemy cards used in magic, so about 88x126mm. This way the text is clearer. The question is, do you think this would be too big to manage properly? You will only ever be holding 6 cards maximum and it would give more space for keeping track of hp stats and so forth. What you you think?

Ok, new info time. I've been working on my template again tonight and have completely overhauled the entire structure. I'm thinking of possibly doing a folding type card so I don't have to cram everything on the same page. I've formatted all the cards so that they will print at the correct size. Do tell me what you think of the below example. If you want to print it out to see how it looks just copy the images to word and print.

I guess I don't understand how that will fold... is it meant to be two cards? If just one card then why have such a weird back, why not a dual panel front and a mono back design?

I got it now. I would say a quad folded card is too much, even for casual play. I'd rather barely be able to read it than have a bunch of folded paper. It you redesign the card into something like you have in the upper portion of the pic there, a side by side with all the text in the right half/pic on the left... maybe it'll afford you more space to type out the rules? It would be sort of like the 2 in 1 MTG cards, 2 cards side by side style-ish.

If not that then I'd say make a squarish card... 6 cards per 8x10 sheet. 2 wide by 3 tall. Why limit yourself to typical dimensions of cards?

Also, I can't believe you included the Billy Hatcher cards... wtf... lol

The problem with having the cards side by side is that they will be near impossible to shuffle properly, that's why I went for the folded model. I figured I'd use the magic size for the cards as then it would be possible to get card sleaves for them. I've taken a picture of a version of this card that I printed out.

But yes, the folding could get quite drastic on some cards, especially those with lots of skills. *ponders* I'm wondering if I should use an idea I was working on back when I first started this project. I was using a word file to keep track of all the skills as I went through, perhaps I could make a little skill book that contains all the skills.

I think you should just make the cards look like the first panel of the folding style cards. remove the skill descriptions and just include a seperate skill reference book. Some of the skills have little differences that can be noted by the skill on the card. Because it uses ALOT more paper to print a bunch of folding cards.

For example the Freeze skill:
On Zol Gibbon it would be "> Freeze 6+" indicating that you need to roll a 6 or higher.
On Del Depth it would be "> Freeze 3+" indicating that you need to roll a 3 or higher.

And the Ally Bonus skill:
On Del Rappy it would be "> Full Ally Bonus +2" indicating that you get an additional 2 AP on top of the AP Bonus that is equal to all of the items on your team.
On Ul Gibbon it would be "> 1/2 Ally Bonus" indicating that the AP bonus is equal to half of the items on your team.

And the Leader skill:
On Barbarous Wolf it would be "> Savage Wolf Leader" indicating that the Leader buff applies to the Savage Wolves.

*nods* Yes I'd thought of that myself. I'm actually working on a full skill listing document and then I'm going to start reworking the cards using just the first part of the folding card. This will likely take me a while between university classes and my job but I'll keep everyone posted on what's going on.

Has anyone else used Dueling Network?
Could someone make something like that for PSO3 with the cards that LynxSarnage has already made with the skill descriptions on the card?
I can't do it because I have no programming skill.

Ok everyone, big update time. Its taken me a little longer than I had planned but I've finally finished version 3 of my cards and managed to piece together my skill book. Do bare in mind both are still trail versions so if you notice any errors or contradictions please let me know so I can fix them. Ok, well with the new year rolling in I can bring you all a special treat. The first full version of my game! The following file includes everything included in previous editions plus a few rule changes and updates that I've made, the unreleased card pack and a starting set of battle maps to play with. Hopefully most major bugs have been worked out but please do give me the heads up on anything you think could be changed or needs clarifying. Does anyone know how to use the Flat land assist card ?

Flatlands allows an Arkz player to place their monsters anywhere on the field. So yes you can summon a Delbiter right next to your opponent at the other side of the field. It only affects the player who used it and has an infinite time span unless someone overrides it. ^^

It would be interesting to see how that would turn out. Set a maximum HP/AP/TP/MV and Max Stat Total for the Hunter and Arkz factions, and then include Abilities (and for the Arkz, attack range), as well as how much they should subtract from the point total. I'm sure that with a bit of work, a set of character creation regulations could be created. It'd be interesting to see what kinds of characters could be created with this.

The Nei's claw pic is the only one that exists so unfortunetely I can't do anything about it. As for Kamui, you must be thinking of Two Kamui which was a dagger. Kamui was a normal katana.

Kamui had a katana animation, but looked like a tanto (dagger) :

If you look at Kamui compared to other katanas like Sange, Yasha, Yamigarasu it's much smaller.

The only reason Kamui had a katana animation is because single daggers didn't exist in PSO.

When I dug them out I found that I'd actually done a lot of work on them previously, more than I thought I had. I had to change a few things here and there to fit it in with the current version but overall the rules weren't too bad.

Very not bad, but definitely needs some tweeks. the special ability haste, especially on a hunter side character is absolutely broken. especially if you make 1 with 3-4 move. Also the MV scale is a bit high. 4 mv in general should not be handed out so easily. Hunewearl Hunters having 4 move is absurd as is. Maybe implement some kind of stat swap system so u can trade a point of AP for a point of MV or something instead of it being increased by what character u pick. but ya, mv shuldnt be taken so lightly. Silfer had 3ap 2mv. Saligun had only 2 ap but 3 mv. Stella had 1 ap and 4 move. maybe this should apply to tp for forces as well? Having 3 atp and 4mv is setting the bar waaay too high especially if created with the special ability haste lol. maybe if u keep haste in there maximum move should be set to 2 and maybe even have a ap/tp deficit as well, no exceptions. Limited Action on a SC is also incredibly broken, especially on a hunter side character wielding multiple weapons/guns, i dont think i shuld need to explain this lol, but it might be ok for arkz though. the ability elude shuld also have a hp defecit maybe? another suggestion is +2 hp more for base on arkz is a bit low. i was thinking arkz shuld have maybe around +3 base hp? 1 last thought i was thinking maybe allow a point of ap or a point of tp to be purchaesed for those who want to take no abilities. these are just thoughts and suggestions. a fun and great idea you have going on here! keep it up!

I'm ashamed of myself to taking this long to notice this thread. I'll have to say, the image capture and Card artwork is done very well. It even looks great on my rather high-res displays. I'll have to read through the rule sets later.

Ok small preview time. I've been working on a few ideas for my Episode 4 expansion and I've come up with the following....EVOLUTION!

A new rule that I'm playing with to mimic some of the things that actually happen in PSO. Basically a card with the Evolution rule will evolve into a new card on the battlefield when certain criteria are met. Here's an example.

Lame D'Argent, pretty poor stat line right? Well when the criteria are met it will evolve. In this case you need to perform 10 kills with the weapon and it will evolve into Excalibur.

And gain a much more powerful weapon. Excalibur is marked as an evolution only weapon so you can only play it if you fulfill the evolution critera. And this card also links with another...

definitely an interesting idea but keeping any 1 weapon thats not so good alive for a certain amount of kills is not an easy feat especially when playing pvp. this is especially going to be difficult for a low class wep that is going to be a big kill target. not a bad idea though but id say a maximum of maybe 3-5 kills to get that evolve. im assuming ur allowing any weapon, tech, or action card to count as kills for this as long as the lame'd is equipped like how it works in psobb? im definitely a big fan of the tellusis and excal link though. i personally recommend just making them 2 seperate cards and keeping them in sync with their psobb counterparts since ep3 in general does a pretty dam good job of doing this. i like how u did the stats and abilities on the excal, but to kinda keep it in sync i was thinking u culd just make it a good weapon and give it steady damage or something to match its hp rape in bb. if u were to do the evolve thing tho id say theres no reason to have to gimp the lamed all that much really and just make it reasonable for its cost. your opponent/s knowing what the card does r going to make it a huge must kill target before it evolves as is. since excal is a steady damage weapon technically u can buff it up a bit more than the lame and keep it the same cost on evolve due to it being a hp draining weapon since most if not all steady damage weapons are buffed up quite a bit more than other items of the same cost. 5 cost is definitely good cost. keeps it from being paired with things like god shield genbu til u get the evolve. make tellusis 2 cost tho so can still equip a 2nd weapon!!! :o

You do make some good points. As I said this is only an idea and I really don't know how well it will work practically, just thought I'd try and make some new stuff up to spice up the game. Anyway I'll keep working on them in my spare time.

well thats the whole idea! dont take me the wrong way im just throwing in my 2 cents! not trying to tell you how to do this just throwing out some suggestions! i love u for doing all this work in the first place! <3 so do what you want to do. just trying to help n put some extra thoughts in ur head! not trying to discourage you in the least! id absolutely love to see you implement the psobb items and im always up for having new abilities, etc.

Thanks, I'll keep working on different ideas. I want to try some different ideas for the monsters too as well as possibly some new action cards. I guess this is where the project really gets interesting for me. ^^

Awesome Rule Book Cover!

Has there been any recent updates to anything in the project? :) Just wondering.

As of this moment, not yet. I'm still working on a few things though including a revised character creation book and some new cards to cover episode 4. Problem with the latter is the lack of good card art to go with it, particulary of the weapons. I'm no graphic designer either so I can't even make new artwork but I'll find a way.

If anyone would like to help me out please feel free to take a peek at the following file and give me your opinions. Its a list of cards I propose on developing based on ep4. I've tried to make them varied and in line with what is currently out there but some things may have slipped through the net in my excitement. Thanks guys!

ooo nice! il study this moreso this weekend when im out of work. only skimmed thru it atm, and the only suggestion i have at this time would be to give zero divide some kind of freeze capability. maybe even some frozen death! il do more reading and toss out some more thoughts for ya this weekend! im not good at the graphics stuff either so cant help u there. wuldnt even know where to begin :(

Hahah, no problem I'll sure I'll find a way. You raise a good point about the zero divide, frozen death sounds like a nice ability to give it, don't see that used often. I'll look forward to what you have to say, I've tried to make them all a little different to what already exists, mixing up some unusual combos and such. ^^ Oh and the slot in section at the bottom is just brainstorming at the moment, forgot I had that in there....but more may become of that in the future...ooooo.

Ok everyone time for a new update. Couple of things I've been working on but the first is a revamped version of the character creation rules. I've streamlined the creation process and updated the skills section. I've also included some blank card templates so that you guys can actually make cards.

im loving this new version of the character creation rules. very well done! ive tried all sorts of stat and ability combinations and its very much in line with the way the game was. nothing at this time is striking me as being too broken at all. gonna putz around with this some more here in the near future. also browsed through the ep4 items and creature stats and abilitys a little bit and nothing struck me as being out of whack. gonna do a bit more reading though on it sometime this month and throw some ideas at ya. was quite surprised to see you didnt have dorphon eclair as a 7 coster though, that 7cost delbiter needs some competition! :p

ok. a couple things coming to mind here.

Solferino - Hp Assist. I'm assuming this is meant to do what Hp Assist actually says it is supposed to do and heal all allys within round slay range and doesnt work like Creinu's Hp assist? Just curious on how you had this intended to work.

LK38 Combat.. hmm.. shot range on this seems a little bizarre to me. just some ideas but i was thinking maybe some pistol or mechgun range and maybe some triple strike action at least kinda like the guld milla has to give it more of a minigun feel to it. maybe some ap reduction and ac unable to balance this out.. hmm.. i'l sleep on this throughout the week and see if some other ideas come to mind. Quintuple strike action would be sexy.. but would definitely have to give it a weak spot ability or something if its gonna hit that many times.. lol.

Rambling May - New interesting toy for this game. Few thoughts on this 1. Rather than doing mech gun range i was possibly thinking of maybe giving this its own new range type. its technically a shotgun but only has 2 target max so i was thinking maybe doing something like giving it like a V shape range.

Hey guys, I guess I'm a little late to the thread, I've seen so many people try to do the project and not finish that I guess I never got around to seeing this one. Ohh well, I ended making my own. It's taken a few months, but that's alright. I tried to keep everything looking closely like the video game, I'm not a fan of the bright colors behind the HP/AP/TP/MP.

Anyways, the reason why I'm here is because I'm having a really hard time finding a good file for the logo. Everything I can find is so tiny it's virtually unusable. I was wondering if you, Lynx, or anyone else reading this forum has found a good one or have a good working file. I'd really appreciate anything.

Lynx made a VERY great version of the cards. His DeviantArt has all the cards, plus several of the rule packs.

As for a logo, do you need just PSO or PSOep3?

Yeah, I've already finished making all the cards, I'll stick with the ones I made for now.

I'd prefer the PSO EP3 logo, if possible. If not, then the original logo could do.

Yeah, I have one around that size, it's 450px wide. But If I'm going to print with it, it'll get distorted at the sizes they need for printing. Unfortunately. It doesn't really seem like anyone has a high-res file. =/

Ok, I have another question. How does Arkz summoning placement work in the game? I never paid very much attention to it while playing, because I would just place in the squares the game would allow me to, but how it is determined on how far out a creature can be summoned? It don't remember it being row based, like the guide from Lynx's project states, but maybe that's the easiest determine it?

High cost monsters generally can only be placed on the rear rows, while low cost monsters can be played much further up the field - I'd need to double-check to see the exact distances allowed though.

Neike, I spent quite some time trying to work out monster placements before I finally settled on the system I have. I'm not entirely sure its 100% accurate but there were a number of things I noticed about certain stages that led me to the current workings. As far as I can tell its the easiest way of working things out.

I tried to get these professionally printed as trading cards and some problems came up.

1. ISSUE: Your submitted file(s) are low resolution (lower than 300 dpi)
This may cause your print product to appear fuzzy and pixelated. You will need to re-design your file(s) at 300-350 DPI (dots per inches).

2. ISSUE: The text and/or design objects are too close to the edge and is at risk of being trimmed off. In order to prevent the text in your artwork from being cut off, all text must be an 1/8th (0.125") inches from the finished edge of your layout.

3. ISSUE: Your file(s) do not display a proper bleed. All bleeds should be 1/4 of an inch (0.25") all around and an 1/8th of an inch on each side (.125").

they can't be printed until they meet all of these requirements.

I would say try to rip the images from the game, since most of the ones provided here and on the net suffer from compression artifacts (but i doubt they will be any better...or?). It would be a waste of money with that low quality if you want to print them professional, also make your own ones and give it more a modern look, you don't want them to look like 10 years old cards made in MS Paint...(・｀ω´・)

GIMP and Paint.net are two free programs that people tend to swear by; for basic stuff, I find Paint.net to be straight forward enough while still having some other more advanced tools when I need them.

Thank you! I will start with these two and will see how it goes. Is CMYK editor an important thing for beginners? I've seen GIMP and Paint mentioned in this, but there are some others that I wouldn't mind your opinion on ;) There's a table at the bottom of that page, but I don't really get what the most important factors are :/

This is a weird coincidence (or maybe not since everyone around here are big fans of ep3) but I'm playing around with making a mobile app version of pso3. I'm still working on the basic logic of the game stages but once I get to the art stage, a lot of the card Lynx has released here look amazing. I'd love to try and incorporate them if that works for the eventual game design.

The links to files here are long dead, does anyone have a ZIP of the original uploads they could share?

Oh my, I just happened upon this forum again whilst pruning my bookmarks. Hi ABetc, I actually have all the original files (barring one of two cards that were corrupted during a hard drive crash) and I'd be more than happy to share them with you.
